4th is fine by me, but I made several mistakes...
Hey Fubbles,
You had very bad lag in last nights race that affected other drivers, unfortunately this happens to most of us but can be controlled by following some simple guide lines ...
To enjoy more stable online racing, connect your PlayStation®3 system directly to your broadband modem, instead of connecting it through a router. (Depending on your connection type, your broadband modem may be referred to as a "DSL Modem", "FTTH Modem" or "ONU".)
Please note that if you are connecting your PlayStation®3 system directly to your modem, you will first need to set up PPPoE. To set up PPPoE, select "Settings" from the PlayStation®3 system's XMB™, then select "Network Settings" -> "Internet Connection Settings" -> "Custom" -> "IP Address Settings". If you do not know your PPPoE user name or password, please contact your ISP.
When your PlayStation®3 system is connected directly to your broadband modem, you will not be able to use your PC or other network devices while you are taking part in online races. To use other network devices while racing online, please connect your PlayStation®3 system to the internet via a router. However, some router types and router settings will not allow you to take part in online races, and errors may occur.
Gran Turismo 6 allows you to connect your PlayStation®3 system to the internet either wirelessly or through a wired connection. However, for a more stable online racing experience, a wired connection is recommended.
If you are connecting to the internet through a router, you can create an environment that's suited to online play by activating UPnP. When activating UPnP, please be sure to set up UPnP on your router as well as activating it on your PlayStation®3 system.
For details on setting up UPnP on your router, please refer to your router's instruction manual, or contact your router's manufacturer.
UPnP is set up automatically on the PlayStation®3 system. To see your PlayStation®3 system's UPnP status, select "Settings" from the XMB™, followed by "Network Settings" -> "Settings and Connection Status List", then select the UPnP option. To adjust the UPnP setting manually, select "Network Settings" -> "Internet Connection Settings" -> "Custom", then select the UPnP option.
If you are not using UPnP, you will need to manually set up port forwarding. Please refer to the "About Port Forwarding" page for more details.
The port numbers for Gran Turismo 6's online racing are listed below. However, depending on your fellow players' network environments, other UDP ports may also be used.
TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658
Online play may be adversely affected if these ports are blocked by your router's firewall or by other means. In such cases, you will need to cancel LAN -> WAN (outward) packet filtering on your router.
If, even after performing the above step, you are still having trouble enjoying online races while connected through a router, please set your router so that it forwards the port number noted below to yourPlayStation®3 system. (To set up port forwarding, you may need to manually set the IP address on yourPlayStation®3 system. To do so, select "Network Settings" from your PlayStation®3 system's XMB™, then select "Internet Connection Settings" -> "Custom", and set "IP Address Settings" to "Manual").
UDP: 3658
For details on setting up port forwarding on your router, please refer to your router's instruction manual, or contact your router's manufacturer.
Depending on your router type, "port forwarding" may be referred to by another name, such as: "port mapping", "static masquerading", "port opening", "changing address settings" or "virtual server". Please refer to the section of your router's manual which deals with online gaming for more details.
Please read the below link and make sure you follow the recommended settings for your router/modem and related information.
