Automobilista 2 - Discussion Thread

Things are looking good via. sim racing on the PC.

AMS2 - physics do seem to be better then PC2, but have not spent to much time on it yet.

Went ahead and got Asseta Corsa unlimited.
With high visual settings in every category looks pretty good (more so with cars). Still have lots of setting adjustment to tweak - however intial reaction will spend a good deal of time on this. At least until more content is out for AMS2. It is good though to have a complete set of different tracks and vehicles for the most part. Also based on quick glance several tracks seem to be medium length with good flow - so should be fun.

Did we have the Classic version of Oulton Park in early access? Don't remember seeing it before but found it just browsing through the tracks. I've often wondered what Oulton would be like without the chicanes, and now I know that Knickerbrook becomes a fast, buttock clenching right hand kink! Not a very good lap at all but this is Oulton Classic (and evidence that you can very much catch a slide on a pad in AMS2!)

Did a bit more AMS2.

One thing that is different after a race is over you have to drive your car back to the pits (do not think I have cool down lap setting on but maybe I do).

I like the tire scrub sounds and curb sounds. Gear changing and turbo noise etc seems to be okay. Overall sound however might be a little week compared to other sim games - not sure as have not tried all the cars.

I agree with others you can definetly catch a slide a lot easier then PC2. In general you can push harder and curbs do not bite you as bad.

Sense of speed seems to be similar but perhaps somewhat better then PC2. In fact I was hoping sense of speed in PC2 on the computer would be much better then on PS4. I think it is only marginal better, graphics wise a lot better.

You have to do yourself a favor and try different Custom FFB files for PC2 now that you're on PC. These transform the game. I'm a LOT faster with these compared to the original choices. Scan through here and read the comments and download them. It's as easy as switching out a file and turning the flavor in FFB settings to custom. This in my opinion is one of the key factors making PC2 on PC better than the console experience.

I'm using this one right here and I think I'm sticking with it. Really good. Plus you can go in and edit some values like adding more engine vibration while idling.

Thanks about the force feed back mods.
Yes will try one of those soon - perhaps today.

Agree that modifications files are one of the main reasons that a person might want to switch to PC. Perhaps 15 years ago used to play a racer on PC that - I had used several car modification files. Except even at that time did not have a computer powerful enuff to run the game very well and pretty sure did not have a wheel.

Going to take my time and when ready to start trying mods, will be a slow gradual process with only one or two at a time.

Looks like there is no way to change your user name on AMS2 inside the game. If I delete the configuration file will it make it where its a brand new start? Maybe just need to Uninstall and re-install from steam?

It's your Steam name for now.
There was a way to change it in beta cracked versions. Check in your folder and see if you have a steam_emu.ini file, I believe that's where you could change it.

Thanks for the tips - just changed steam profile name, which then changed player name in AMS2. Did download and change FB setting file for PC2, will try and remember to try the different ones to see which one is best.

Not sure what is going on with the career mode. I think that it is pretty buggy. Attempted to do the first race which is stock cars. Unless I have that care selected prior going into the career mode, meaning I used a stock car on practice, time trials or quick race it is putting me in a P1 car, while all the A.I have the stock cars. One time it put me in a stock car, however it was all red with no livery scheme (weird).

Regardless of that unless I am completely missing something you are unable to change the length of the race events. The first one is 30 minuet qualifying with the race length being 1 hour long. You can end the qualifying after 1st lap and start the race which is okay. Seems like you are also unable to adjust the A.I. difficulty in career mode for each race? Guess races have to be done in order. There is literally no in game instructions or videos on the career mode.

In my opinion I think the cars bounce to much, does not seem like they would bounce this much in real life. Not sure if that is just how they modeled the tracks or what.

Do not think that I will be spending that much time with this game until more updates and content are released. Time trials, and quick races seem to be okay for some of the cars. Enjoyed time trials in one of the lower tier formula cars. Brakes in general seem really touchy and easily go to full lock on a lot of the vehicles - might be partially my sensitivity settings not sure. Will read more and watch videos and try and make adjustments based on other users experiences sometime in the future. Not looking for any direct help at this moment as I will find the information whenever I am wanting to spend more time with this game.

I think it has been confirmed by at least one person on YouTube that must be in the car before going in to career mode - which by the way believe is very lacking and undeveloped.

I have put in a request to steam to see if they would refund my money for AMS2 (doubtful). I do not think it is ready for a major release. If I am lucky to get a refund might try Rfactor2 or just get something different.

Was denied my request from Steam for a refund. So will occasionally play AMS2 - mainly time trials for now. Some of the lower tier formula cars are okay (I am not a huge formula car guy in sim racing). Been only doing one track mainly, so lots more to experiment with. Really though been having more fun with PC2 since moving to PC2,

Always nice to have new skins for AMS2.
And this time one is definitely a classic - Willimas FW 11 1986

CHeers buddies!

time to bump this little thread again.
Hockenheim is free DLC for now

and there will be 2 big CONTENT updates in August, which should bring Silverstone and most likely some of the classes announced earlier like GT1,3,4 or Group C.

I'm going to wait to get AM2. I read conflicting stories that the game is not good enough yet. I have sims enough so far to enjoy myself and I have Wreckfest.

Niels Heusinkveld, the main physics guy behind AMS1 (but now no longer works at Reiza), offered his views on AMS2 physics.

TL;DW basically he said the car feels a bit more vague compared to AMS1. However he also said that AMS1 is possibly too direct and not that realistic either. The FFB around the center seems to have a big deadzone. Also the car seems to slide a lot more and the FFB doesn't correct itself as quickly as AMS1. Would love to hear what others who have played both games feel.

Personally, I do think AMS1 FFB is a bit hyperactive. I always put that down to the limitations of the original ISImotor engine though. RealFeel can only do so much after all. Judging from what Niels said alone, it seems AMS2 tries to be more realistic in FFB, but I always have the opinion that in a sim you need more info through the wheel than real life to compensate for the lack of g-forces/butt sensor. ACC is my yardstick at the moment. Would be interesting to compare once I finally get this game.

I would say that your decision is a good choice at this point. I have it and it feels very lacking compared to PC2. Content wise and overal structure. I suppose that if you are more of a record lap setting type of person and or tend to enjoy open cockpit cars more that it would be fun for that type of person. I think the number of tracks and track selections are good.

I will mess around with it from time to time. Currently still really enjoying project cars 2 - so much better via computer.

The game is mint !. I downloaded all the current PC sims during the sale.. AMS2 is very good. Bonus points for it being such optimsied code and runs smooth as ice on a lesser PC.

To be fair, if you want to do single races against the AI, Time Trials (and presumably online, haven't looked at that yet) then yes, it's great. But in terms of the more 'gamey' side, ie a career type mode, there's nothing there at the moment apart from a single offline championship. I know there's more planned in terms of content, and I'm fine with that, but it's limited right now in terms of pre-curated racing game content.

That said , yes, if you're happy making your own entertainment it is great!

I was fairly astonished when they released their "1.0" how it barely even changed. It was the same thing the beta was with just another round of tweaks. While I like the gameplay and this shows promise, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of the GUI being completely hashed out, no descriptions, lack of settings being completed (thinking PC2 here, I know it's different but is it really?) and how they focused on releasing more content then bring the base necessities up to par. I can assume though that they are a small studio and for that, what they are doing is to be commended.

Yeah I have no interest in that side of the games, I haven't even looked and probably never will. I'm totally a time trial, hot lap, power sliding kind of guy. You can usually see me saying YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssSSSSS while sideways much like Clarkson. That's just how I've always been.

Agree with your comments. I was really surprised at the incompleteness of the user interface. Along with the career mode. Same with the car icons for selection. I tried to get a refund from steam, but had already spent more then the alloted time.

Not sure if it is just me, but visually it appears as if the tracks are to bumpy. That is even with high speed shake turned off. So much so that it is kind of distracting from a visual perspective.

I do see promise and it is good to be able to try several tracks that are not in PC series.

Was at Donington Park yesterday watching the British Truck Racing Championship, and on the way home remembered we got trucks & Donington in AMS2... Had me quite a lot of fun - 10 minute single race, AI at 100/50 (not for any reason, that's what they were already set to and the pace was about right for me). Was fighting at the front until a silly mistake at the Old Hairpin, but still very enjoyable. Don't know why the collisions with flappy corner bollards are so loud, small audio bug I guess...

AMS 2 on sale on Steam for $29.99, in bundle with AMS Ultimate $39.99. If you already own the first game and its DLCs like me, you can get AMS 2 for $22.49 (additional 25% off), pretty sweet deal.

Tomorrows AMS2 Update note:

PREMIUM GT3 & GT4 CARS ARRIVE FOR AMS2

There is no doubt GT3 racing has grown to become one of the most popular in motorsports, be it real or simulated - and there are good reasons for it: a perfectly balanced power-to-weight ratio packaged with sublimely optimized 21st century aerodynamics and technology, wrapped under virtuoso designs produced by the most prestigious brands in the world make them both uniquely attractive, and despite their impressive performances incredibly accessible for drivers of varying skill levels.

Our goal for Automobilista 2 is to provide the most diverse sim racing buffet we can put together, and that would never be complete without these mighty machines. We are thus delighted to confirm our initial batch of GT3 & GT4 cars will finally come for Automobilista 2 in our upcomign update.

This release will be boosted by the addition of two major licensing agreements - we are very proud to announce two new licensing partnerships with Porsche and Mclaren Automotive, which will see a number of their cars added to the game in the next few releases, adding to the growing list of premium brands and models officially represented in Automobilista 2.

The recent licensing agreements with these prestigious motorsports icons have been a long time coming in what has been a difficult year for businesses all over the world - that only adds to our gratitude for getting these over the finish line.

The deals will see a long catalogue of very exciting cars making their way to Automobilista 2 in the coming months - the vast majority of which will be added to the game as free additional content.

The initial batch in the upcoming release should include the following models:

GT3:
  • 2015 Mercedes AMG GT3
  • 2016 Porsche 911 GT3-R
  • 2019 Mclaren 720S GT3
  • 2019 BMW M6 GT3
008-jpg.10226

GT4
:
  • 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport
  • 2017 Camaro GT4-R
  • 2018 Mclaren 570S GT4

This release will also feature the Porsche Carrera Cup cars as raced in the Brazilian series in 2020.

ENTER THE GREEN HELL
011-jpg.10229

Another major milestone in our upcoming update is the release of the most challenging race track in the World - the Nurburgring , featuring both the modern GP layout as well as the infamous Nordschleife, both developed with the aid of laser scan data.

The track will be available as a standalone DLC, and also as part of both Season Pass and Premium Track Pack.

This initial release will not however be the extensions of our plans for the "Green Hell" - we will continue to develop new layouts of the track including a Historical version, with a release targetted at some point next year, as a free addition to this DLC package.

CORE GAME DEVELOPMENT

The new content is obviously great additions to the AMS2, and we hope they will be a popular boost to the game, but these also call for the game to evolve with it - to that end, we have continued to hard both in developing new features to the core game, as well as fixing issues with existing functionalities and content. Here are some of the highlights to feature in the upcoming release:

Livery custmization will now be possible and template for all models release with the next update, so users will be able to paint their own liveries to replace (but not yet add to) the original ones without needing to fudge with external tools.

We have a substantial Force Feedback upgrade, providing enhanced feedback during braking, enhanced road feel, improved scrub effect, effectively eliminating the FFB "deadzone" around center in some cars, and generally adding a more distinctive oversteer / understeer feedback
001-jpg.10230

Physics revisions
of the engine at large as well as specific car models continue to take place, with fuel and tyre wear specially expected to have a full pass in time for release.

We are also continuing our intense AI development program, further cleaning up some poor behavior and doing further performance callibration passes which should see a more consistent and reliable racing jumping from class to class.
010-jpg.10228

Further work on 3D Animations is also ongoing, on the car front with more cars receiving the complete damage model with deformable mesh, flapping & detachable parts, dirt & scratch maps, and tracks beginning to get a bit more life with helicopters, drones and other objects
009-jpg.10227

On the Audio front, and have added a capable extra set of hands to the team to help us get the best of the FMOD engine - that should earn valuable improvements on the longer run, with some already be noticeable on the upcoming new cars.

Championship mode has also received some updates, with further support for official Stock Car rules and the addition of a few new championships due for this update and the next.

PRICING RETAINED
005-jpg.10234

Despite the growing list of premium licensed content to be added to the base game over the coming weeks and months and the game itself distinctively maturing into a very competitive package, we have elected to further postpone our planned price bump and stick with the current pricing for the time being, with the goal of boosting the influx of new players and stimulating the growth the active community around it. With seasonal Steam sales incoming you may expect some good deals also for DLC packs.

That covers it for this month and hopefully also makes up for the last one - we look forward to sharing the latest results of our work with you all this weekend!

This is big news with GT cars and Nurburgring, the update I’ve been waiting for.
Should be news article worthy, instead we get the Xbox fridge?

Dude troooooo! Reiza is doing exactly what I want devs to do. Be transparent, listen to and acknowledge your community. I've been super happy with AMS2 and am really looking forward to it's continued development.

And the GD Nurb is always welcome!!
