Similar to the above, I really like the Acura RSX.

and even though I'm constantly going on about how I dislike Chevrolets, I have to admit I kind of like the Chevy SS

What the hell? Is that a later AMX or something? It looks sooo 70s with those wheels and decals.
It's an AMC Spirit AMX. Could be had with a 304 5.0L V8, but most came with anywhere from 2.0L I4's to 4.6L I6's.

Those decals are actually a factory paint job.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I figured the decals were factory, considering what other crazy decals you could get on cars of the era.

Most of them were a lot more subtle, but yeah

They can look pretty good when done right though.

Not really my cup of tea, that one, but I really love those wide fenders. They look pretty good in black with no decals, too.

That's why this thread exists

Yup, totally agreed. It's one of those cars that's blegh stock, but when toyed around with can look decent.

I would know, I made it. :sly:

I think a lot of American cars from the mid-to-late 70s are similar like that. Even things like the Mustang II can look pretty nice with a bit of work.

The Mustang II in my opinion wasn't half as bad as some of the other trash being sold around it. It's still looked like a Mustang, way more than the Fox Body ever did. That said, the car definitely isn't "pretty", but I do think it's tolerable.

I really, really like how this looks. Perfect combo of late 90s roundness and 00s surfacing. Plus it has a good bit of steam under that hood.

Also, heads-up display.

I never knew until this thread that the Previa was MR. I wonder what their motive for making it like that was.

@Bklover

I never cared for the OBS trucks that much. Their earlier brothers which ride the same chassis are the ones I like, from 1980-1986. 87-91's are alright.

I like the old ones quite a bit, my favorite being the supercharged GTP coupe.
At this point I reveal one of my guilty pleasures:

Chevrolet-Monte-Carlo.jpg

SS, preferably. I'm almost certain it's a bit of a crap car. But it just really appeals for some reason. Front-drive, slushbox, wallowy V8 coupe.

Loads of cars I'd not even feel slightly guilty about in this thread though. Acura RSX, Nissan Cube, Ferrari 308 GT4, Panda 4x4, Megane Cabrio, 309 GTI, Honda Beat, Urraco... all of those I'd say are legitimately likeable cars.

But you could have an Eldoraaaaaaaado!

I also don't like any of the post-cladding Pontiacs. They are just so bland and forgettable. The late 90s ones which I do like quite a bit are a bit cartoonish, but they have some sort of character and aren't any worse cars.

While we're on the subject of really awful 90s and 2000s GM stuff, I also quite like the Cavalier and the Sunfire. I'm aware each is absolutely atrocious, but I've never minded the styling of each.

As far as slightly more legitimate guilty pleasures go, based on stuff I saw last time I was out there and thought "ooh", I'm putting these two forward:

I'd definitely rock a Reatta if I lived in the U.S., even if only briefly.

I agree. Though part of me did expect to find appreciation of any version of the 309 to be less than favourable (boxy notchback apparently more prone to rust than other Peugeot models of that era). But I suppose I am guilty of holding it in much higher regard than the 205.

Sticking with that era, I can't help be like the Vauxhall/Opel Senator B's more US-inspired features amongst all the other Euroboxes of the early 90s.

The second gen Ford Scorpio also falls into this bracket of larger, predominantly EU-marketed saloons from the 90s with very un-European designs. Even though I always hated the later facelift, the mid-90s Scorpio looked like it was being sold on the wrong side of the Atlantic which I found oddly fascinating.

I also have to mention the post-2009 Kia Opirus Premium: the most refined model of Kia's ghastly Lincoln Town Car knockoff. It almost manages to look good. Look at that shiny grille and those cheap LEDs! Pure class. Just wait until you step into the subpar interior, feel the cheap leather and fire up the lazy-but-powerful V6, which is coupled to a classic 6-speed slushbox.

And all this can be had for the price of nothing because nobody wants them. It's still a bad buy, because god knows if you'll ever be able to sell it on to someone again. But still, that floatiness. Oh, yes. I would totally drive one.

I may make out sometimes that I despise all Nissans, but as with the Nismo Juke above, I do actually quite fancy some of them...
I'd definitely have a Figaro. Though my plans would involve hoying out the 1.0 turbo in favour of maybe a naturally-aspirated 1.3 or 1.5/1.6 from another Nissan of the era (maybe even on carbs), throwing in a manual gearbox, stiffening everything up a bit and having an excellent little track car.

Only problem is despite there seemingly being more of them in the UK now than there are in Japan, prices are still a bit ridiculous for an early-90s Nissan with a 1.0 engine...

Sort of with you on the Scorpio. Nasty-looking thing at the time, though its oddness has died down a bit with age. Now it just looks goofy rather than hideous.

Personally, I always quite liked the back end, too - though one of my automotive guilty pleasures is full-width light units at the front or the back.
