For the last few days I've watched some Forza 5 videos, only due to the fact they have McLaren P1 confirmed, and when I heard the developer say "we will have autovista for every car" my jaw simply dropped...

What bothers me is that GT series don't really let you have fun with the cars in the game. You can never stop, rotate the camera 360 degrees around the exterior or interior, or even go to a mode where you open up the car, open the bonnet etc. Gran Turismo only concentrates on driving aspect which for me is no longer the full on "automotive experience". For example I love washing my car in reality, there's nothing like it if you want to get to know your car well.

Don't get me wrong I like driving in GT, it's the best driving game out there but I sometimes hope I could take the car to photo mode and open up the car, take some inside pics maybe start it up, you get the picture... I never really feel like I actually own the car in the game (childish I know) because when driving I don't really feel like I'm in control (probably due to very limited camera views and lack of 360 degree look around).

My question is would be in favour of adding such feature as autovista to GT series?

(And no I'm not a Forza fanboy since I've never played Forza or owned an Xbox)

You can always get your girlfriend to wash it in a bikini.

No, wait, that's for getting to know her well, or maybe not knowing her at all.

I agree 100%, but I don't think PD cares so much about that aspect... At least there is the Photomode and some glitches in it to get in the interior XD. But PD is rather focusing much more on the driving aspect, it's a racing game at all, not an "Autovista" game. But i we were able to do what you said, I'll be so happy... But the "wash my car"... Forget it lol, i can't imagine PD simulating the wash part... Imagine Lucas Ordonez making a tutoriel on how to wash a car hahaha

I didn't mean I'd like to see a "car wash" feature I just said autovista is kinda like washing your car, getting to know every corner and every curve of your own car...

Photomode = autovista

Photomode = autovista

Not exactly. Photomode is very limited. You have to exploit just to manage and get an interior shot. So much effort modeling every tiny detail and individual stich, why not let us see it? There's also not much in the way of interactivity which I don't really care for but it's still a major difference.

Photomode + interior glitch on hundreds premium cars is very far better than autovista on 18 cars. For the car's information in Autovista, each car in GT5 have a info description much more detailed than four words in autovista.

I hope that in GT6 we will able to enter the vehicle without the glitch

It's still a glitch. Why should we rely on a glitch to do something so simple and obvious? Why not have proper functionality? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Edit: I'd also like to say that I'm not comparing the games as whole to say which one is better overall, just their specific equivalent feature.

I hope that in GT6 we will able to enter the vehicle without the glitch

Sure hope so.

Yes I agree if it's GT5 vs Forza 4, but Forza 5 will have autovista on all the cars

fm5 will have many fewer cars than FM4 (officially declared), also no longer be called Autovista but forzavista and I think the name change also hides a change of functionality for which you can only open the doors but not the bonnet and the baggage, on all cars would require too much work

This took all of two minutes to find:

Perhaps going off facts as opposed to your own opinions would work better. And entire, lengthy descriptions from Clarkson are a bit more than four words - though I imagine he won't be doing the info again for FM5, as there's hundreds of cars to do it for this time.

As for including a mode like this in GT6; unlikely (since we haven't heard of it yet), but the other main problem is that no cars other than the WRC models would really benefit from it; they're the only ones to have opening bonnets, and PD would need to start modeling what's "under the skin" for every model. It's entirely possible they have started, which would be great for their eventual transition to the next generation, but including a mode like this in GT6 would undoubtedly only work for Premiums, and since Kaz keeps stressing the two quality levels of the car list are going to be treated more evenly, this would go against that.

Ohh well I'd take fewer cars with proper functionality than awful standard cars which for me don't exist in GT5 as I'd rather not get annoyed when driving. For me it's Quality > Quantity, something PD found out only few months ago due to comments made by "us" regarding the number of GT-R's present. Maybe they'll get rid of some and spare us "1200 cars (including 100 GT-R's)". lol

I suppose Forza will only take out cars which are less popular and more numerous.

This is what is in the trunk of my NSX RM. Doesn't look pretty but it is there.

Autovista doesn't interest me in the slightest but I would like to see it added as well. More features in a great game can only make it better and if you don't like it, it is simple not to use it.

I think people here are forgetting what the purpose of Forza and GT really is.

Forza is leaning and intending to head towards the "automotive experience" for gamers. They want you to celebrate the car and that is why such awesome but impractical features like Autovista works. It is why we see classic, (personally unknown) underrated American cars in all their DLC's released so far in the series, because these cars have gained a cult history with people. Also a reason why we don't see more tracks, it's all about the cars. Consider the series as the ultimate game for the general car guy.

Gran Turismo on the other hand has always been purposely leading towards the "professional automotive experience" end, even with a simple game like the first title. Even the advertisements for the first game say this; a Japanese ad where representatives of real car manufacturers debate about why their car is better with Gran Turismo as their evidence. GT is built for people's single ultimate purposes. You need to have a single want to enjoy GT for what it is. The want is a car, a course, a feature, the physics, photo mode, history, just like that.

Someone once told me that people who dislike certain aspects of a subject they like, are professionals in that field. Take this as advice between the two sides.

So Mister Maciej908, you are right and wrong about your idea.

^I'm not going to go into specifics and post a huge reply but I can never understand how people differentiate between these two games like that.

Nor can I understand the "GT should be enjoyed like this" mentality that tends to try and ignore all the flaws or pass them of as something the game should not focus on. I mean, how exactly does it lean towards the "professional automotive experience" more than Foza? If anything, the game's career mode and ai is a joke. There aren't even enough cars on a single class to organise proper races other than superGT. Then you have the fantasy racing cars and so on.

I also don't see what all this has to do with the subject at hand. Regardless of what you think the games are or should be about, it doesn't change the fact that they both feature a very similar feature that in GT's case is really lacking to the point glitches have to be exploited.

Completely untrue.

In terms of "amount of work" I think Turn 10 is capable of such feats. PD however wouldn't be able to render and model so many cars to such a level even if they had additional 10 years of development for GT7. That's my opinion anyways though I'd like to be proven wrong...

*Sigh* Can we not let PD finish other important stuff first BEFORE they begin on something like this? I love FM5's autovista, but its something I won't be spenting a lot of time on....

I have never seen this image before, well, it looks amazing, but there will be a huge amount of work to do this for all cars. When announcing that FM5 will only have a maximum of about 150 cars then do not complain

Dan Greenawalt said in an interview that there will be fewer cars. He has continually repeated, "hundreds" of cars, so we know the count will be over 200, just not how much over.

Well that's stupid, especially switching to BluRay.

What's "autovista"?

It's a feature in Forza 4 with about 25 cars where you can explore the car and hear a little history about them. You can open the doors, hood, trunk, play with adjustable wings, etc. You can get inside the car and check out the interior and start the car.

It's an interesting feature, and I like the info about the cars, but after doing each car once (some twice) I haven't used it since.

I agree with this. PD should focus on perfecting the basic elements of the game before adding frosting/icing like "autovista."

EDIT: On the other hand, modeling the cars at that level will allow us to have a better damage model.
