Have a favorite lyric line in a song? One that gives you a shiver up your spine, or goose bumps when you hear it? Or, make you chuckle everytime you hear it? Post it here. Make sure to post the name of the group, the song and then the line. Please be neat about it. 👍

Here are a few of mine to start off...

The Dead Milkmen - "Punk Rock Girl" - "We got into a car, away we started rolling. I said, 'how much you paid for this?' Said, 'Nothing, man. It's stolen!'"

The Who - "Baba O'Riley" - "Don't Cry. Don't raise your eye. It's only teenage wasteland."

Van Halen - "Panama" - "I reach down.. between my legs, 'an... ease the seat back, 'an...

Green Day - I walk alone : "Check my vital signs.. No, I'm still alive"

Transforms the song from something Meh! to something worthwhile.....

Dennis Leary - I'm an A$*hol3 - "I use public toilets and p!ss on the seats, and walk around in the summertime saying "what about this heat". :D

Soilwork - "Chainheart Machine"
I'll rise! I'll rise!
You'll fall! You'll fall!
Roll the dice!
My call! My call!

There's something about the way Speed sings this that gets me every time. Plus, for some reason I just love these lyrics.

Dark Tranquillity - "Through Smudged Lenses"
These walls are protecting us,
Burn them to the ground!
This haven of refuge,
Burn it to the ground!

The way he sings the "Burn them/it to the ground" parts is just awesome. No other word to describe it. I love the lyrics to this, too. They have protection and refuge ... so they burn them to the ground!

Anthrax - "A.I.R."
Welcome to your nightmare...
You just can't walk away!
It's time for you, to choose, your fate...
You just can't let it lay!
Welcome to your nightmare...
Your whole life's on the way,
Today.

Classic Anthrax. Joey Belladonna is the only Anthrax singer that matters. I mean, "Welcome to your nightmare" ... what a classic line!

Amon Amarth - "Versus The World"
We've been battered and left for dead,
We've been beaten and we have bled,
But we always made it through - versus the world!
This may be our last quest,
Before we're put to rest,
The end is coming soon - versus the world!

I love that line "versus the world". For some reason, I found those to be some nicely written lyrics. Noone beats Johan Legg. Noone!

Malevolent Creation - "Preemptive Strike"
Strike!!!

Suspicions... of their intentions are raised
The choices now become clear
Deterrence... their plans will never evolve
An onslaught many will soon fear... for years
Offensive... vicious assaults will befall
To those that do not agree
Triumphant... united we will prevail
Until the goal is achieved... their defeat

Contented... the methods that are appliee
Considered partial to gain
Intentions... some say are fueled by hunger
no one can ever explain... or restrain
Prehension... the target rapidly seized
Forced upon by vicious intent
Abounding... weapons of warfare are used
The many lives that are spent... no regrets

Strike first, strike fast, abolish their threat
Shackled by loss, pursue their downfall
Atrillery, annulled, no chance to requite
Subversion complete, winner takes all

Strike first, strike fast, abolish their threat
Shackled by loss, pursue their downfall
Atrillery, annulled, no chance to requite
Subversion complete, winner takes... all!!!

Very determined lyrics. I like. :D

Dark Tranquillity - "The New Build"
'Whatever beat that drives the impulse. Whatever tune that carries through. What fierce soul that rattles empty. It's one reality too few.'

In Flames - "Insipid 2000"
'A helpless excuse, a falling reality!'

Soilwork - "Blind Eye Halo"
B: Manic
L: Cynic
I: Auto
N: Matic
D

VAST - "The Last One Alive"
'And if the sun comes in your room, and awakes you from your vanity. You won't find me 'cause I'll be on top a mountain pissing on your grave.'

Junior Brown is just one of a very few Country Music stars I'll listen to. His songs often have funny lines. Here are two I can think of at this moment.

Junior Brown - "My Wife Thinks You're Dead" - "We'll have to say 'hello' maybe some other time instead, because you're wanted by the police and my wife thinks you're dead!"

Junior Brown - "Venom Wearin' Denom" - "If you gave that gal a diamond ring, you'll get a Diamondback!"

And the following from a 1917-1921 legendary blues artist Robert Johson.

Robert Johnson - "All My Love's In Vain" - "When the train... it left the station... with two lights on behind. When the train, it left the station... with two lights on behind. Well, the blue light was my blues, and the red light was my mind. All my love's in vain."

Robert Johson - "Traviling Riverside Blues" - "Now you can squeez my lemon 'til the juice run down my... 'til the juice run down my leg, baby. You know what I'm talking 'bout... You can squeez my lemon 'til the juice run down my leg. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout now."

Rush - "Anthem" - "Live for yourself, there is no one else more worth living for"

Rush - "Freewill" - "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice"

Rush - "Limelight" - "I cannot pretend this stranger is a long awaited friend"

Van Halen - "Mean Street" - "See, a gun is real easy
In this desperate part of town
Turns you from hunted into hunter
Go and hunt somebody down
But hear me now, somebody said "Fair Warning, Lord !"
Lord, strike that poor boy down
"

Van Halen - "Right Now" - "Miss the beat, you lose the rhythm
And nothing falls into place
Only missed by a fraction
Slipped a little off your pace
"

"Like a break in the battle was your part,
In the wretched life of a lonely heart"

Pretenders/Back On The Chain Gang

Less Than Jake - The Science of Selling Yourself Short
I've come to my senses, That I've become senseless.
I could give you lessons on how to ruin your friendships.
Every last conviction, I smoked them all away.
I drank my frustrations down the drain, out of the way.
So I sit and wait and wonder, " Does anyone else feel like me?"
Someone so tired of their routines and disappearing self-esteems.

Radiohead - Wish You Were Here
So, So you think you can tell.
Heaven from hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field, from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?

Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash
Splintered piece of glass falls in the seat and gets caught.
These broken windows, open locks, reminders of the youth we lost.
In trying so hard to look away from you.
We followed white lines to the sunset.
I crash my car everyday the same way

The Shins - Pink Bullets
I was just bony hands as cold as a winter pole.
You held a warm stone out new flowing blood to hold.
Oh what a contrast you were.
To the brutes in the halls.
My timid young fingers held a decent animal.

Over the ramparts you tossed.
The scent of your skin and some foreign flowers.
Tied to a brick.
Sweet as a song.
The years have been short but the days were long.

Cool of a temperate breeze from dark skies to wet grass.
We fell in a field it seems now a thousand summers passed.
When our kite lines first crossed.
We tied them into knots.
And to finally fly apart.
We had to cut them off.

Since then it's been a book you read in reverse.
So you understand less as the pages turn.
Or a movie so crass.
And awkardly cast.
That even I could be the star.

I don't look back as much as a rule.
And all this way before murder was cool.
But your memory is here and I'd like it to stay.
Warm light on a winters day.

Over the ramparts you tossed.
The scent of your skin and some foreign flowers.
Tied to a brick.
Sweet as a song.
The years have seemed short, but the days go slowly by.
Two loose kites falling from the sky.
Drawn to the ground and an end to flight.

What, really? Probably another April Fools joke ;). I think I'm going to puke if I see another one.

not one stone you pitch hit an object

"My love is like a time bomb waiting to explode" - Some Queen song but I can't seem to remember what one right now.

Razorlight - In The City ........................Amazing Lyrics ;)

Well it's a close one, a real close one
And no-one gets hurt, but she's got twice the fun
But now they kiss in the rain
And did someone call out someone's name
From a white cadillac on a wide wind
To her white dress across the great divide
Into the warm moonlight
And she's been reading Bukowski for days
And she leans over, spits her name in my face
And says "Well now you know how it feels"
Well now you know how it feels

And I was looking for you
Looking for you
Looking for you in the city last night

The boys in the band steal a kiss in the mystery of the night
11:59 to zero, live a blonde hair in jeans, holds her tight
Turns on the heat and starts to fight and sayin' "that's my man"
Well the myth of love must have been there
The spirit of possession was there

And the boys over at the bar
Yeah they're mixing up their medicine
The girls were on their mobile trying to get reception
Johnny's shadow's getting long but he keeps on singing
His shadow getting long but he keeps on singing:

And I was looking for you
Looking for you
Looking for you in the city last night

And people so strange
People so strange
People just keep talking in the city last night

Take off your shades and scroll down to number nine
You're living on the guest list, up against the big rack
Head back, hand highs, it's getting loud in here
Think you're going to have to shout
And she's tearing off her clothes
He's stirring all his drinks, oh yeah
Streets divide them
It's an empire of signs
Honey say she can read
And it looks like trouble
And it tastes like chocolate if you want it
It looks like trouble
And it tastes like chocolate if you want it

Still I was looking for you
Looking for you
Looking for you in the city last night

And people so strange
People so strange
People just keep talking in the city last night

And I was looking for you
And I was looking for you
And I was looking for you in the city last night

And I was looking for you
Yeah I was looking for you
Yeah I was looking for you in the city last night

It's alright!
It's alright!
If you say my name
It's alright!

Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been? it’s alright we know where you’ve been.
You’ve been in the pipeline, filling in time, provided with toys and
’scouting for boys’.
You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn’t like school, and you know you’re nobody’s fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream? it’s alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the steak bar. he loved to drive in his jaguar.
So welcome to the machine.

The lyrics to My Chemical Romance-Vampires will never hurt you.

And if they get me and the sun goes down into the ground
And if they get me take this spike to my heart and
And if they get me and the sun goes down
And if they get me take this spike and
You put the spike in my heart

And if the sun comes up will it tear the skin right off our bones
And then as razor sharp white teeth rip out our necks I saw you there
Someone call the doctor, someone get me to a church
Where they can pump this venom gaping hole
And you must keep your soul like a secret in your throat
And if they come and get me
You put the spike in my heart

And if they get me and the sun goes down
And if they get me take this spike and
-Chorus-
Can you take this spike?
Will it fill our hearts with thoughts of endless
Night time sky
Can you take this spike?
Will it wash away this jet black feeling?

And now the nightclub sets the stage for this they come in pairs she said
We'll shoot back holy water like cheap whiskey they're always there
Someone get me to the doctor, and someone call the nurse
And someone buy me roses, and someone burned the church
We're hanging out with corpses, and driving in this hearse
Someone save my soul tonight, please save my soul
-Chorus-

And as these days watch over time, and as these days watch over time
And as these days watch over us tonight
I'll never let them, I'll never let them
I'll never let them hurt you not tonight
I'll never let them, I can't forget them
I'll never let them hurt you, I promise

Struck down, before our prime
Before, you got off the floor
Can you stake my heart? Can you stake my heart?
Can you stake me before the sun goes down?

You do know that's a cover of a Pink Floyd song, right?

I'm well aware, but I prefer certain versions of songs to others. Like how I prefer Goldfinger's - 99 Red Balloons to Nena's - 99 Luft Balloons.

The best chorus ever:-

New Amsterdam it's become much too much
Till I have the possession of everything she touches
Till I step on the brakes to get out of her clutches
Till I speak double dutch to a real double duchess

Elvis Costello/New Amsterdam

I think I'm going to cry. You like a Radiohead song over a Pink Floyd song? That's almost as bad as when Korn covered Brick in the Wall. :(

I think I'm going to cry. You like a Radiohead song over a Pink Floyd song? That's almost as bad as when Korn covered Brick in the Wall. :(

And let's never mention The Scissor Sisters again... 👍

I could post about every Radiohead song in existence, but I'll spare you guys, and since this is a GT board, I'll give you this particular one, one of my favorites.

Too hard on the brakes again
What if these brakes just give in?
What if they don't get out of the way?
What if there's someone overtaking?
I'm going out for a little drive
And it could be the last time you see me alive
There could be an idiot on the road
The only kick in life is pumping his steel

Wrap me up in the back of the trunk
Packed with foam and blind drunk
They won't ever take me alive
'Cause they all drive...

Don't die on the motorway
The moon would freeze, the plants would die
I couldn't cope if you crashed today
All the things I forgot to say
I'm going out for a little drive
And it could be the last time you see me alive
What if the car loses control?
What if there's someone overtaking?

Wrap me up in the back of the trunk
Packed with foam and blind drunk
They won't ever take me alive
'Cause they all drive killer cars

Wrap me up in the back of the trunk
Packed with foam and blind drunk
No they won't ever take me alive
'Cause they all drive killer cars
They all drive killer cars
They all drive killer cars

Radiohead - Killer Cars

Plus, in the background, some voice mutters statistics about a car. =D

The Eagles/Don Henley - New York Minute

Harry got up, dressed all in Black,
Went down to the station,
And he never came back,
They found his clothing scattered somewhere down the track,
and he won't be down on Wall Street in the Morning

I dig Floyd too, I just prefer the Radiohead version, its abit more pleasing to my ear, alittle on the softer side with the piano. But whatever floats your boat...

Albert King - "Born Under A Bad Sign" - "If it weren't for bad luck, I tell ya' I wouldn't have no luck at all."

I had some of my favorite lyrics in my signature, but they didn't last for 24 hours and I already got an official warning on my ass so I won't post them here. :P

Nirvana- Dumb: "Skin the sun, fall asleep , wish away, soul is cheap
lesson learned, wish me luck, sooth the burn, wake me up."

Bullet for my Valentine- Curses: "There are forces workin in our heads and we
don't understand them, I need a map to find my
way out all the time.
Theres Curses lurkin' in our heads and we don't
want to find them...."

Pink Floyd - High Hopes

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

The Wizard.
