EPICNESS IS EPIC!

Guns N' Roses - Civil War

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
Ow, oh no, no, no, no, no

^ good one!

Well I jumped into the river too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own drifting all alone
And if it doesn't show give it time
to read between the lines

Guns N' Roses - "Estranged"

That is one of my favorite GNR songs. November Rain is probably first though. Absolute LOVE November Rain.

Here's one. Taken from the Best of the "B" Sides album. This song was written for a bootleg during Iron Maiden's "Somewhere on Tour" Tour in 1986 for a group they called "The Entire Population of Hackney". The song was recorded in 2 different versions, FM's version and Iron Maiden's version. Ironically enough, people think Iron Maiden covered FM because FM released it just a few weeks earlier lol. That is not the case and some of the lyrics were changed. I really like the harmony in the beginning, it's extremely powerful and makes me scream YES! It's about 30 seconds in-ish.

Iron Maiden - That Girl

The words she said turned out why
desperation fills her eyes
Hold her in your arms
don't let go

When you taste defeat, when you loose again
Fight and win, never give in
Hold her in your arms
don't let go

BRIDGE:
That girl you need
Gonna knock you off your feet
That girl, you know
She'll never let you go

CHORUS:
That girl, That girl, That girl you need
That girl, That girl, That girl, That girl

Can you hear her call, call out your name
Think about you, cry without you
Hold her in your arm
Don't let go

Can you taste defeat, when you loose again
Fight and win, never give in
Hold her in your arms
don't let go

REPEAT BRIDGE

REPEAT CHORUS

SOLO

REPEAT CHORUS (x2)

You need!

Do you realize, that you have the most beautiful face
Do you realize, we're floating in space,
Do you realize, that happiness makes you cry
Do you realize, that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes, let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do you realize, oh, oh, oh
Do you realize, that everyone you know
Someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes, let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do you realize, that you have the most beautiful face
Do you realize

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize??

^ Never heard that one but I just had to look it up and listen because those are truly awesome lyrics

The drummer of the Lips lived my hometown (Lawrence, KS) for a while. Not sure if he still does

"We're waiting for the rain to stop,
Bracing for a hurricane.
Building homes on wasted land,
they all look the same."

Feeder - Sending Out Waves

You've paid and you've suffered,
been everyone's fool,
you beg to be noticed,
your licking your wounds,
you wait and you wonder how,
"was it any use?"
Try taking that armor down,
and just this ones,
why don't you fight?

So I fall in love
let my heart take over,
enjoy the show
'cause you'll see
'cause you'll see who I really am

You wake and you wonder
through days of despair,
yet you remain hopeful,
that there's somebody there,
you bear all the burden for,
for those who don't care,
but it's not really worth it no,
the curtain's raised
start the play,
tears in your eyes

So I fall in love
let my heart take over,
enjoy the show
'cause you'll see
'cause you'll see who I really am

So I took out my passion
with a blow to the head,
and it was through my own action,
that our romance was dead

So I fall in love
let my heart take over,
enjoy the show
'cause you'll see
'cause you'll see who I really am

I'm portraying and imitating
everything I'm not,
as I'm performing you're adoring
but my facade will rot

I'm portraying and imitating
everything I'm not,
as I'm performing you're adoring
but my facade will rot

AESTHETIC PERFECTION - SHOWTIME

I believe in rags to riches
Your inheritance won't last
So take your Grey Poupon my friend
And shove it up your ass!

Aerosmith - Eat The Rich

Time, don't let it slip away
Raise your drinking glass
Here's to yesterday
In time, we're all gonna trip away
Don't piss heaven off
We got hell to pay

Aerosmith - Full Circle

Don't get me wrong
I know you're only being good
But that's what's wrong
I guess I just misunderstood

The Offspring - Want You Bad

Here's a song
It reminds me of when we were young
Lookin' back at all the things we've done
Gotta keep on keepin on

Oasis - I'm Outta Time

Those were the days of our lives
Bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one things still true
When I look and I find, I still love you

Queen - These Are The Days Of Our Lives

I believe in love that never dies...
I believe in eyes that never lie...
I believe in souls that sell true smiles...
I believe in you if you're with me...

I Believe - Mägo de Oz (english cover of "Yo Creo" by Darren Wharton)

And do believe in all of that, being quite honest...

Eminem- Not Afraid
"Cause the way I feel, I'm strong enough to go to the club, or the corner pub, and lift the whole liquor counter up, cause I'm raising the bar, I'd shoot for the moon but I'm too busy gazing at stars, I feel amazing and I'm... (CHORUS)"

"My best friend gave me the best advice. He said each day's a gift and not a given right." - Nickelback (If Today Was Your Last Day)

"Take me down to the river bend. Take me down to the fighting end. Wash the poison from off my skin. And show me how to be whole again." - Linkin Park (Castle of Glass)

"How many goodbyes can fit in a lifetime? How many good lies can make it seem alright?" - Hollywood Undead (Rain)

"… My father, he's got a lot of fear I know but enough pride inside not to let that show. My brother had a book he would hold with pride, a little red cover with a broken spine. On the back, he hand wrote a quote inside; 'when the rich wage war it's the poor who die.'" - Linkin Park (Hands Held High)

These are just a few, there are too many for me to list all at once.

I apologize for the long post in advance. I have quite the handful, but I'll only share a few (seems like a lot, I know). A lot of them have burnt in my head and have stayed there since childhood. I haven't heard a recent song do that to me yet.

Daddy's flown across the ocean;
Leaving just a memory.
Snapshot in the family album.
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what did you leave behind for me?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.

Another Brick In The Wall, Part I by Pink Floyd - Something about this still gives me chills whenever I hear it. Actually, a lot of Pink Floyd songs do, but this song, this part in particular, will stay with me forever.

Oh, I thought the world of you.
I thought nothing could go wrong,
But I was wrong. I was wrong.
If you, if you could get by, trying not to lie,
Things wouldn't be so confused and I wouldn't feel so used,
But you always really knew, I just wanna be with you.

Linger by The Cranberries - Yeah yeah, I'll go a bit soft for a second. Maybe it's the nostalgia from hearing The Cranberries play from my mom's little Corolla when I was little, or maybe there's something else with it, but since I was little this always made me get goosebumps in the best of ways. Dolores' voice is absolutely beautiful.

Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
His reason tends to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds
Like silver scrapes in May
And now the sand's become a crust
Most of you have gone away

Astronomy by Metallica - Nostalgia strikes again from my dad's old Silverado. We would listen to everything Metallica on our rides up to camp grounds, but this song has always been one of my father's favorite songs. I love the song a lot too, but hearing it reminds me of my childhood and my father. And yes, I know it's originally from Blue Oyster Cult, so no need to tie me up.

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.

...
Time will tell on their power minds,
Making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess.
Wait `till their judgement day comes.

...
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.

War Pigs by Black Sabbath - I'll start this off by saying this is one of my favorite songs of all time. I don't have a specific moment of when this song drilled its way into my brain, but it has been with me all through my life. Hearing Ozzy, Tony, and the others play such a powerful song has always given me chills.

You told me, I see you rise
But, it always falls
I see you come, I see you go
You say, "All things pass into the night"
And I say, "Oh no sir I must say you're wrong
I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say you're wrong"
Won't you listen to me
You told me, I've seen it all before
Been there, I've seen my hopes and dreams
Lying on the ground

Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus - Yeah yeah, The Silence of the Lambs. Yeah yeah, Grand Theft Auto IV. I don't really remember where I first heard Goodbye Horses, but either way it's a song that gives me the chills every time I hear it. Lazzarus's voice just packs a punch with depth, and it always hits me. The writer states that the song is the "transcendence over those who see the world as only earthly and finite." Take that as you will.

Edguy is known (when they are known) for being a silly band who doesn't take themselves (probably why I'm such a big fan, I love humour), but lots of people miss the point. They take their music very seriously, just don't take themselves seriously. So good music written by what appears to be a bunch of idiots. It comes across in the lyrics too (not the idiocy.. Unless you listen to "Lavatory Love Machine." But that's a different story altogether.).

"Breathe"

"Analogies in time,
You are chasing on your stony way
Run from decay, while the bends seem recondite
There'll be myriads of tomorrows to make yesterdays

You've gotta burn another day
Kick the diamonds down the road
It's only one more night away

And then another day to kill
But no time left to spill, no"

"Children waiting for the day they feel good. Happy birthday, happy birthday"
Stunningly captures hopelessness. Tears For Fears - Mad World

"Round here we talk just like lions, but we sacrifice like lambs"
Counting Crows - Round Here

"Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone"
Billy Joel - Piano Man

Seven years after their singer died, Alice In Chains released a come-back album. The first words on that album, sung by the guitarist: "Hope. A new beginning"

"The Bartender and the thief are lovers, take what they need like sisters and brothers." - Bartender and the Thief by Stereophonics
