Beater or Sleeper? COTW Forza 7 Week:END The Ultimate Sleeper, The Holden Sandman! Thanks Everyone!!

So I finished with wooden medal after all.
Not encouraging.
Actually it kinda is encouraging, Drex and Bud are no slouches( ask how me I know.:P) and you’re not that far behind them.

Compare your times from when you joined(Alpine and Lotus IIRC) to now, not even a second behind me in the Evo compared to 3.5 seconds with the Alpine and almost 5 seconds with the Lotus.

Besides, You can use it as a motivator to push yourself further because sometimes having a rival or 2 can be beneficial to ones self improvement. :D

I really like this car. In fact I really like this segment of cars. Compact executive cars walk the fine line between size, price, luxury and performance. The XE is a very handsome sedan, nicely proportioned. It lives up the classic Jaguar slogan of "Grace, space, pace."

Yes and no, depends how you look at things...
When I see your rigs, I'm about to explode.
Can't work, can't even drive in real life, from '09 had to sold wheels (G25 and 29, DFGT x2 and T150) five times, PS consoles 13 times already, I'm without PC/laptop for years and what I'm about to do, virtually unsuccessful too...

99% of my FL is added by me, about 5% returned, in real life there is only one friend from childhood...

Games ll put me in hospital again very soon I see.

But, who cares, life goes on.

One word: Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

One more word: Neutral.

Why? Lots of power, lots of angry car makes it hard to keep straight sometimes.

Enjoy the full run in HD 1080p. Video is timestamped to my FL.

So I decided to upload a video of my lap this week instead of a photo, to give you guys some pointers on how a fast lap around Prague can be done. :P

As for the Jaaaaaaaggg, It initially feels heavy, but then it responds quite well to inputs.

The engine pulls well and sounds sweet given it’s the same V6 engine as in the F Type and we all know how that sounds. :D

Overall, it’s a great successor to the Jaguar X type.

Verdict: Sleeper 👍

Prague is a track where to squeeze the best time out of it, you have to learn to throw yourself towards the walls and barely miss them. ;)

Take that left turn before the first bridge for example, you really want to cut close to the inside so you can keep the throttle pinned through the right turn on to the bridge.

Of course running manual with clutch does shave time off, especially once you get the controller equivalent of Heel & Toeing down to a science. :D

Don’t forgot folks to get your times in before midnight tomorrow, also if you want a early preview of the next pick, you might see it tonight at the Casual Racing Monday’s meet, Mesasphere will hopefully be streaming it on Twitch if you want to watch. 👍

I'm curious how much it affects your lap times given how rapid you already are. Do you have any idea what the difference would be?

Personally I've never been able to get the timing needed for it, my fingers just don't work that way... :boggled:

I was able to go flat out through that right/left/left/right section just before the bridge. Once. But if you can make it flat out, it's worth at least three seconds a lap.

Well if you compare Obelisk’s lap to mine, you’ll notice the difference in shift speeds and that in itself shaves some time off.

Of course every car is different, the faster the car can shift in manual or auto, the less the advantage the clutch user has, and the opposite applies too( the slower the car can shift, the advantage is greater for the clutch user.)

It’s admittedly not for everyone as with the standard controller layout(the one I use) your left hand has to do brakes and clutch and your right hand has to do gear up/down, throttle and handbrake.

I start by going on the brakes, then hitting the clutch and then gear down, as I do that I give a throttle a blip to minimise any shock on the driveline which would unsettle the car.

Going down multiple gears means speeding the process up abit, of course going too quick down the gears can cause overreving which’ll damage your engine on sim damage and can unsettle the car due to the extra engine braking, basically go down the gears quickly, but keep it in relation to what speeds you can hit in the gear you want.

Admittedly I don’t have any major IRL experience so take all that for what you think it’s worth. :P

Well, I tried to find my groove with the track/car combination, but I’m not feeling it, so I’m sitting this one out, big fat beater for me. :ouch:

Numerous laps on lovely Spa didn't gave some chances to this event, but I did few returns to the finish line.

What I definitely don't like are reverse layouts of anything.

It's on my low knowing of track and car, but I didn't felt comfortable driving it at all.

I found only one same car in Hardcore leaderboards and assuming to the date achieved, is it someone from here?

Congrats to the Vics on great driving.

For a car, don't like his braking, too short second gear - it is for road and traffic signs, or some race touring upgrade, I believe that then it would be another story.

Verdict: Beater

Forza Motorsport 7 2_13_2018 2_20_52 PM.png

A heavy car that gets twice as heavy under brakes, and heavier still when braking into a turn.
It's got some nice pull out of the corner but this also makes it a bit twitchy when thrown at quick successive corners.

That said I did take it out for an extended test drive in the C-class lobby, fully stock of course.
Honestly it turned out better than I expected, though that's probably more down to the quality of the opponents than the car. I never finished outside of the top 5. Compared to the other cars out there acceleration onto the straights was severely lacking, with it only ending up catching others at the end of long straights such as the one at Sebring. Most of the time was made up through the corners strangely enough.

On the whole though the car feels rather meh, not offensively bad, but not lighting any fires either.

Verdict: Neutral

So with the Big Cat now resting in its garage, let’s see where we all stack up on the board.

@Vic Reign93 2:11.980
@Drex124 2:13.913
@VICGT1970 2:14.042
@DG_Silva 2:15.034
@zaxs 2:16.747
@Obelisk 2:17.566
@Populuxe Cowboy 2:20.237

A bigger spread on overall times this week, but good efforts from all. 👍

Congratulations Casual Racing Mondays !!

Looking to ditch those Monday blues after a long day? @PJTierney Casual Racing Mondays has you covered.

Clean racing combined with comedic banter on Discord where we also vote for divisions each week.

This week was a one make division and the vehicle was...

The 2015 Mercedes Benz #24 Tankpool24 Racing Truck!!!

Yep, we’re finally addressing the automotive elephant in the room that is the Racing Truck. :P

It’s the heaviest vehicle in FM7 at 12,125lbs or roughly 5.5 tons, it’s got the biggest engine in FM7 with a huge 12.8 litre Turbo Diesel Inline 6 making 1080hp and a chassis warpping 3,685 lb-ft of torque (also the highest torque in a Forza game.). :eek:

It also unsurprisingly has the biggest rear tyres at 575 tyre width which work with the 8 speed gearbox to power this juggernaut along.

The track you’ll navigate in this dreadnaut this week is the National Circuit layout at Circuit De Catalunya.

Also because it’s a spec series vehicle, Make sure if you’re running your own truck to return it to stock form or just rent it if you don’t own it.

I can foresee a lot of rage and profanity in your attempts so best of luck to you all. :cheers:

One last thing, a small clip of awesomeness from the CRM meet when we decided to go Nastrucking. :D

Now, if I could only figure out how to test drive....

That’s the easy part,
  • Go to Free Play
  • Go to race setup and pick the track
  • Set Division to Any and turn off allow upgrades under car restrictions, then accept the changes.
  • Go to select car and scroll up until you see the option to rent a car.
  • After selecting it, go to the vehicle you want to test drive and accept it.
Then start race and there you go, repeat steps 4-5 if you're testing multiple cars or if you don’t own a car you want to test. 👍

:odd:

This thing is far improved compared to its FM6 iteration, if the demo is an indicator. That curb weight is both a bane and a boon - sure it's hard to lug around, but it has immense grip.

I'll do my run a little later this week because schoolwork has its claws in me.

So, let's take a stab at this week's dreadnought.

NO! Not that kind!

Much better.

Nowhere near as bad as people seem to think it is. Like I said, the weight is a boon and a bane at the same time. It gives me so much grip that I can abuse the track limits on the high speed turns down the back without even breaking a sweat (and I did a few times). The downside is it tends to fight cornering a tiny bit so you have to learn how to work around that. The onboard cameras are not very good and neither are the chase cams. I chose the high bumper cam so I could actually see what I was doing with the truck.

Honestly, it's very much a skill vehicle and while it's easy to drive thanks to the immense grip, it's an absolute challenge to slog this behemoth-

bf1-behemoth-guide-header.jpg

No, not that!

The TRUCK.

maxresdefault.jpg

Anyways, where was I? The truck is easy to drive, but immensely difficult to slog around a track at its limits because of that sheer weight. It goes like hell in a straight line, though!

Final verdict: Sleeper.

Full run, timestamped to FL. I'll edit the video in later as it is taking forever to upload and I have to go to work in 20 minutes.

After 10 laps with this lumbering beast, the best I could manage was a1:28.877.

For it's size the truck is incredibly nimble. The brakes do a good job of hauling the monster down from speed without too much protesting and it bites into the corners like a hungry shark. Rumble strips don't seem to upset it at all and once the grip hits out of the corners it's off to the races.

In the right hands this thing will surprise many people. Those hands just aren't mine. LOL.

Verdict: SLEEPER

Given I spent Monday night racing door to door in this truck, it’s refreshing to get back behind the wheel of it. :)

Of course my truck has much longer gearing to make full use of its absurd torque, 8 close gears in a vehicle with nearly 1100hp and nearly 3700ft-lbs of torque is kinda redundant, 4 or 5 longer gears will be more useful for that pulling power.

But aside from that, it’s agile in relation to its huge weight and once it’s in high gear it really starts trucking(Pun definitely intended:P).

So while yes it’s not a sleeper in the conventional sense, it’s definitely more fun than you’re anticipating it to be. ;)

Verdict: Sleeper 👍

Shouldn't the truck be fully stock?

Doesn't sound full stock to me :P
Probably should’ve clarified that abit more. :dunce:

That run was with a rented truck and my own truck which has a different livery and has the huge scaffolding rear wing on it is the one with the longer gears among other things. :P
