There's no denying it was a massively quick Japanese sports car for its time. Nissan's own, more powerful Z33 Roadster came out 14 years later and is only a tenth of a second quicker. Honda's S2000 and Acura's NSX are also barely faster than the Z32.

I love the Z-cars, and to me the Z32 is one of the most beautiful. I don't find the Z33 or Z34 nearly as attractive. Sleeper!

Congrats bbr and cool video! Now you need to ditch that reflective visor so we can all see the huge smile on your face. 👍

It easily could've been a loss... I made more mistakes than I should have, but thankfully no one was close enough to take advantage of them and the lead away from me. I wish that GTS had more replay views available, as I would have cycled through them when buddy in the Z4 was really close. The accidents ahead of me that allowed me to advance from 6th would have been awesome to see from the driver's view, as I thought I was going to be toast... thank the ghost feature for that, or my race would have ruined too! I got lucky...

Cheers

Well, Tuesday's races did not go so well for me. I feel it necessary to make a public apology. I ran into just about everyone last night, many of you more than once. I think I may have been too tired and was losing focus. It got worse as the evening progressed. I caused a huge pile up on lap 1 at Mt. Panorama, choosing to swap paint with a new fellow rather than back off and let him keep the lead. I think it took out most of the field behind me. I quit shortly after. I'm sorry guys.

Hey, don’t worry about it. 👍

If anything, your incident at Bathurst was overshadowed by someone thinking it was funny because it was the last race to start going the other way round and sabotaging our race, including taking out the leader and causing me and Nate to pile into the back of him.

It wasn’t the guy who was driving the 288 GTO last night as he was quite decent all night. 👍

It was a shame though, me and Nate were looking at another cracker of a mountain battle until that happened, he tried it again and I just aimed for him, because I’d be damned if he was gonna take anyone else out.

Nate then gave him das boot and we’ll be going back there for round 2 next week. :D

That guy in the GTO had some talent, I was quite surprised to see him rubbing panels with Vic right at the start, and carrying on to be quite the racer! Had a few spins, but hey the GTO demands 10/10ths :scared:

And @Draggon as Vic mentioned your bumps and scrapes were minor compared to some assho- I mean lovely person hoofing it up Conrod straight the wrong way, slamming into multiple drivers and wrecking what was an exciting three way race between myself, Vic and the Australian visitor.

But allgood about your oopsies, man. We all have our crap weeks, and to be honest the Z32 is (in my opinion at least) nice to look at, but a bit difficult to drive. Thats why at GV Speedway I switched it for a 370Z and that was heaps better in the handling department :D
Keep your head up, next week we'll be in a new car!

I know I hit a few people but most were wrecks in front of me I couldn't avoid everything else was just racing and nothing to cause me or anyone to crash or move out of the way.
I started in last every race even if i was sitting up front I would let everyone by. Some race's I ended up last and others I finished in the top 3 a few times. I didn't see the guys going backwards I was to far back to see him but that explains how I finished 2nd that race.
I had a great time last night racing with everyone.

Now I see the guy going backwards. He was in the back racing around me in the beginning. I don't get it because he wasn't doing bad and we were all running together so why turn around and ruin everyone's race.. what a tool.

Who knows. Some people just think it's funny, I guess. Sometimes there isn't even a solid reason besides "I felt like it."

1989 Nissan 300ZX TwinTurbo

This is actually one of my top 5 favorite cars in the game because it was one of my favorite cars growing up. It took me a long time to create a tune for this car to get it a top 6 car in online racing. So this was my first time driving it completely stock and it's really a great car once you get the hang of it. Because of this group I'm getting to learn how to drive every car in an completely different way.
I picked this car because I knew it wasn't an easy one to drive at first and I really wanted to hear everyone's opinions.

Thoughts:

Suspension & Handling:
The stock suspension absorbs bumps and curbs very well as you can easily throw one side of the car up on a curb without upsetting the balance or stability but just watch putting that power down on a curb or you'll be facing the opposite way.
Because the car already sits low body roll shouldn't be a major problem right? Wrong. Weighting in at over 1500kg what little body roll it does have really effects weight transfer. Over drive the car into a corner or go to fast thru a chicane and you will quickly find it in an uncontrollable slide. Once you get the feeling for its weight transfer you can start pushing it to the limit and that limit will also allow you to stay off the brakes more offen as it scrubs off just enough speed for quick switchbacks. You will find oversteer with TC off and understeer with TC on. If your someone who likes using TC then TC 4 seems to be the magic number to stop most of the wheel spin under full throttle.

Transmission:
Unlike last week's car Using an Automatic transmission in the 300ZX is not a problem as its always in the right gear and will supply enough torque to easily roast the rubber off those rear tires. At no point does it bog down or struggle for power uphill.

Power:
There is plenty of power on tap making those Rear Comfort Soft Tires scream for every inch of their life. It's so easy to smoke the tires off this thing. It takes alot of practice and finesse to keep from losing grip. The 300ZX TwinTurbo is very sensitive to power upgrades so just by doing a simple oil change will effect the power in a negative way on shorter tracks causing more wheel spin and more of a slide in weight transfer but you can still post very quick and competitive lap time if you work on it.

Brakes:
The brake system is really not that good considering the power and weight of the 300ZX. You can easily push them past their limit resulting in overcooking the front tire, so scrubbing off speed early is a must or it will just lose all grip under heavy late braking. Like I mentioned above you can stay off the brakes thru the faster sections while trying to control the weight transfer, it's just the right amount of balance. Get the first part wrong and brakes won't help you. Again brake early on sharp to hairpin corners the let the cars momentum carry it through the turn before stepping down on the throttle.

Verdict:

With 300ZX and TwinTurbo in its name I don't think anyone would assume Beater or Sleeper at first glance. Actually the complete opposite would come to mind. But this is not a car that delivers instant gratification on the first few laps like others in its class. This car makes you take the time to learn its Behavior. To me this is a driver's car and takes some finesse to go fast, get it right and your rewarded with a fast fun car to drive, get it wrong and she will bite you big time. So in the right hands its definitely a SLEEPER.

Tuning:
This car is very sensitive to power upgrades & tuning adjustments and it's not an easy car to get the balance of both just right. Having over 2500 miles logged on the 300ZX I've spent some hours behind the wheel. While most of that is from test and tuning, racing olny about 300 miles was for our COTW.
I have 3 different setups for this car and one is posted here at GTP the other two are not.
I have a 450pp & 500pp on race soft tires. If anyone from the group would like to try them. Just send me a PM and I will share them with you. Remember tho I'm a pad user.

Now I see the guy going backwards. He was in the back racing around me in the beginning. I don't get it because he wasn't doing bad and we were all running together so why turn around and ruin everyone's race.. what a tool.

Possibly why he drove the wrong way is that he got collected by the crash at the beginning and was so far behind and decided to ruin everyone else's race.

It's just sad to see people act that way is all. I've been in my fair share of accidents where people intentionally wreck me instead of even attempting to pass clean as im sure everyone has. Not once have I ever thought about ruining the race for everyone else because of it. I definitely know nobody that night wrecked him on purpose so I'm just glad he is not somebody is in this group.

It's one of those things every online club has to deal with at some point. One time many moons ago, when we were racing in the Isuzu Bellett GT-R, we had someone join us who proceeded to cut half the track and attempt to ram a group of us. Now, this was at Ascari, where you get respawned if you cut too much of the track, so noone's race was ruined, though he got kicked nonetheless. Thankfully these kind of occurences are quite rare, and can't overshadow the epic racing we get up to week in, week out. :)

Unfortunately I work on Saturdays at the 3pm race time. Actually I'm just leaving work at that time so I will miss out on some great racing today.
@Nismonath5, I noticed in one of your videos I came down on you while you were passing me sorry about that. I race cockpit view and it's sometimes hard to see the people around me. I definitely don't do it on purpose and 95% of the time I'm good about not doing it but if I do make contact with someone it's me who wrecks anyway.

So here I thought I was doing really good at the time trials because @Nismonath5 & myself have been putting up the almost exact times then @Vic Reign93 comes along and destroyed our times bu 2 or 3 seconds on every time trial. How the hell are you doing that @Vic Reign93? Wheel, pedals, gear shifter, trail braking? I mean I'm giving it all I've got and while I might be able to get a few more tenths of a second Im really squeezing every inch of life out of it. So got any secrets you want to pass along?

In a word? Experience. :D

But in all seriousness, I run the standard DS3 controller with roughly the standard configuration.

As for secrets, I have none to hide, Brake balance can be adjusted and it’s not considered tuning, I run a heavy rear bias set up of 5F and 10R.

But mostly it comes back to that one word, experience, I’m perfectly comfortable with the physics of the game and because I like throwing the cars sideways, I know exactly what each cars quirks and limitations are.

In fact there’s been nights where I’ve bought the car, done the visuals and oil, gone to the lobby and within 5-15 mins of driving it for the first time, I already have a good handle on what it can do. :)

It’s not something you learn overnight, but there comes a point when it just clicks and then it becomes second nature from then on in. :P

As for the other tips I can give, sometimes taking away grip can have a positive effect, like with the Tank Car I put CS tyres out back and left the stock SH tyres out front to try and encourage the back to come around, works for Front wheel drive cars too. 👍

Stick with us and there’s plenty more to learn and not just for you, but for us all.

See you already helped me by sharing those two things because I didn't know I could adjust my brake bias or run lower tire compounds without it effecting the no tuning option.

Your experience definitely shows and I'm a sponge when it comes to learning from others. I'm going to be here for as long as the servers stay up because you guys are a blast to race with.

My Fair Lady!!!
A catchup with what was once my favourite car...

Those of you who have known me since way back may remember that I used to have a Fairlady Z in my garage. In fact it was the first car I ever customized and made my own, preceding even my EVILEVO. It was yellow. Maxed out performance, and tuned to stick to corners like cling wrap. This is the last photo I have of it, alongside my other iconic car, my Integra...

Syracuse_2.jpg

I ended up selling it because it didn't quite live up to expectations, but more on that in a minute.

If we travel further back in my life, back in the GT1 days, the Z32 Fairlady Z was one of my favourite cars. I especially loved it in the Midnight Purple, hence my colour choice for Tuesday. It has a unique, sporty look that I really love. The front end almost says "Lambo Diablo", while the rear is equally sporty and gorgeous. It always catches my eye, both in virtual and reality. However this week, the racing reminded me why I ditched my yellow tuner.
(Hears @Baron Blitz Red in the back call out "BECAUSE IT WAS YELLOW!!!!!")

First, let's look at the key numbers of the Z32. 276bhp, 1500-ish kgs. My one question is, why is this thing so heavy? It doesn't look like it's anything particularly bulky, but then this car does come from an era before lightweight materials were the norm in sports cars. And we must remember it's a road car, so it likely has air con, sound insulation, a stereo system, etc.. (all of which can be removed for a weight loss of around 100kg easy.) It also boasts a 3.0L V6 twin turbo, so it actually has a bigger setup than a R32/R33 GT-R Skyline, with only half the drivetrain. And you know what? You really feel it.

With all that weight, mediocre brakes and comfort tyres, controlling the beast became a bit of a chore on Tuesday, with the rear end more than a bit excitable through corners, and turbo lag giving you a false sense of security before they kick in and send the car into the nearest sand trap. I tried all sorts, no TCS, 1 TCS, even ASM to try and get the ol' girl under control, but if it wasn't kicking sideways, it was way off the pace. I tried the Z32's grandson, the Z34 370Z, and it was a world better in terms of handling and stability!! Though I still couldn't quite catch Y. We had some excellent racing on Tuesday, with the best turnout in months and plenty of fast, furious racing. Well done lads!

The weight is pretty much the Z32's only downfall. Even with maximum weight loss it still weighs something like 1370kgs, which is still on the bulky side, and the handling is still average at best. That's why my original Z32 was abandoned, though if @Rinsky would be so kind as to send me his special tune, I may well give it a second chance. As it is stock, I call it a beater. But the best looking beater we've had here! 👎 :P

Back soon with the next car!!!

Back! Did ya miss me? :D

I really really did like Rinsky's first pick for COTW when I asked him, so we're gonna go with that one this week! Before I reveal that, a reminder that the COTW 200 events still have another week to go before they close, so if you haven't already, make sure you take part or even have a few goes and work on shaving those seconds off your time! You can participate as many times as you like, your top time will be selected and used for the results.

Now anyways, what have you got for us this time, @Rinsky?

35322406_OVR.jpg

It's the 2009 Volvo C30 R Design!!!!!

Only the second Swedish car we've ever had on the thread (Not that there's many to choose from. Hurry up and add Koenigsegg already!!!), this hot hatch has R in it's name!! Time to see if it stands for "Racing" or "Repulsive"... This week's Playing With TT's will be at the SSR5 Clubman, and is up now!!! Hurry up and clock a time before Vic undoubtedly blows us all away for the 174th week in a row...

Also, speaking of our favourite speed freak, during Tuesday's meet we will be doing a re-take of the race that got ruined by some lovely person last week, because that was shaping up to be one heck'uva race! A reminder of the conditions...
-Bathurst
-One make BMW M3 GT's
-5 laps

So that'll be happening. See you there!!! :sly:

I have a proposal. My offline TT times aren't eligible due to the different physics. But I have a disadvantage, being that to do an arcade TT I have to be perfect in my lines as just a smidge off course means it won't register. I've seen replays some have posted, and let's just say there have been some liberties taken. What do you guys think about including my times?

See, I'm trying to resist doing a GT6 re-install at all costs. :yuck:

We'd rather be inclusive than exclusive, and it's not like you're dominating just because you're in arcade mode. I see no harm in it.

I don't see a problem with it at all. It's all about having fun right?
I know I don't have to say anything about the reinstall to you. What a pain in the *** that's going to be.

@Nismonath5 I will get back to your post in a few because Im at work right now.
