This car is willing but not able...
Oh well, points for effort!
The Will VS was part of a marketing approach by a small group of companies, who all decided to make a range of products aimed at the younger generation, under the title "WiLL". The products made in this collaboration included air fresheners, microwaves, and of course, this car.
The Will VS is basically a Toyota Corolla with a few styling cues way ahead of its time, pinched off a stealth fighter. It's also quite the economic city runabout, with auto transmissions, great fuel mileage and durability. This is enough to win it quite the fan base, I can tell you that. One of my work mates owns one, and when he totalled it coming home from work one night, he actually opted to pay more than what it's worth to have it totally repaired and revived from the scrap heap back to the road. So it's definately got it's fans.
But is it any good on the racetrack, now that's the question!
The answer though, is no!
There are a few reasons to this. The main one is that the AT transmission changes gears before the engine's reached it's peak power, meaning that anyone who races with AT are instantly at a disadvantage. Your options are either switch to MT, or grit your teeth and use your skill. (Now that I think of it, using AT would have been the perfect challenge for the likes of
@Vic Reign93.... oh well.) Another reason is it's pretty bulky, and there's quite a bit of body roll, which predictable, but a bit irritating nonetheless when you're trying to go doorhandle to doorhandle with someone else. It's not the worst offender in the game, and would serve as an okay starter car to those who perhaps don't know any better, but I'd only use it to rack up some quick cash then flick it off in favour of a SR-Z Supra or Clio V6. Fully tuned it boasts 340bhp, 996kgs and 485pp, which are damn good numbers on paper, but the handling is still a bit off which keeps it from being the sleeper it could be.
On Tuesday, I drove it in a few races, but wasn't doing particularly well, so I swapped it out for my trusty 20V Primera. It's only $3k more expensive, but with an oil change and the power limiter set to 99.9% (literally!), it was the exact same PP level, though had more power, two more gears that were closer together, firmer handling, and proved superior in nearly every way! I also tried pitting it against the Opel Speedster, and was only beaten by
@Draggon in a previous COTW pick, the Mazda Axela 23s!
Kudos to Ash for going from here...
...to here!
I'm just going to leave it there, because I feel like if I carry on I'll only be repeating myself. In summary: It's not the absolute bottom of the barrel, but it's pretty far down there. Just go with the Primera
Back soon with the next car!
