Sorry for misinterpreting your argument, but you said GTS would be better if PD invested resources in developing real world cars for the game, implying that they haven't been doing so. You could've said PD should focus more on real world cars and I would've understood you better.I never said PD wasn't investing in the development of real world cars. What I say is that they are investing too much in fictional cars, of which many likely never would come to production (be it as race cars or road cars... simply because they make no sense or actually go beyond whats physically possible to do).
I can't say I agree with you that PD invests too much on fictional cars. Again, I think the balance between real and fictional is pretty solid right now, and I base that mostly on PD's DLC history with GTS so far. I can agree with you that many of the fictional cars are too unrealistic, but I think the fictional Gr.3, Gr.4 and Gr.B cars perform a lot more realistically than VGT cars such as the 2X and Tomahwak X, and the fictional Gr.1 cars.
That's a good point. Lots of manufacturers participate in motorsports to test the limits of what's possible in an automobile and/or showcase new designs and technology in race cars that could be applied to road cars. With concepts, I imagine that it would be more difficult to test performance on the road unless an actual, real-life model was produced and can be driven. To me, motorsports always was the benchmark of exploring the limits, or finding technology that makes sense even in road cars. In race cars you won't find fancy gimmicks, or technology that's potentially going to fail (well, of course, technology can always fail, but engineers will always want to find a solution that works throughout a race or longer if given by regulations). A concept car, however, is mostly 'dreaming' of something that can't be tested.
This is why I think such a thing as a 'Vision' GT car is pointless. We already have motorsports as a technology driver... it's the real thing.
Agreed.Of course there's always concepts that could actually be real. The Red Bull X isn't far away from reality, even though it's questionable we could ever really use the fan car in races. And I'm not necessarily against such a car from time to time.
I guess it depends on what you think has simulation value. In my opinion, every car in GTS has simulation value because you can drive them in the game. The real world cars, for the most part, perform as they would in real life. The physics aren't perfect, but I think they're far from arcade-like, and the way most VGTs drive seem to based off of this physics engine so they at least feel realistic. Certainly, some VGTs go beyond the possiblities of these physics, but just because they exist doesn't make the game an arcade racer for me.But what the VGT programme makes out of GT is an arcade racer... not a simulator... and that's not good for the series.
