Reminds me on the DiRT 2 soundtrack which was definitely one of the best game soundtracks. I often listen to hard rock (disturbed, AC/DC) or to Metal (Iron Maiden, Helloween, Slayer, Trivium and the old Metallica songs)

Depends on who you are and where (IMO)

If i were cruisin in New York i would listen to Young Maylay (GTA SA Intro)

Or if it was just Denmark, i would prefer Spiderbait - Black Betty

For a ride across American highways/deserts, I'd choose:
- Kyuss
- Slo Burn
- Queens of the Stone Age
- Truckfighters

Other than that, I'd stick with Arcade Fire.

I have a lot of them, but I'll just chuck in a top 25 in no particular order rather than the 100 or so that I love listening to in the car :D

1. Heatseeker - AC/DC
2. Hearts Burst Into Fire - Bullet for My Valentine (along with 99% of BfMV's other songs haha)
3. Stop the Rock - Apollo 440
4. Cemetary Gates - Pantera
5. Crush - Pendulum (actually many songs by Pendulum but mainly Crush 'cause it gets stuck straight into the quick beats)
6. Ghost 'n' Stuff (Obleezy Extended Edit) - Deadmau5 feat. Rob Swire
7. Highway Star - Deep Purple
8. This Moment - Disturbed
9. Operation Ground and Pound - DragonForce
10. X-Men - Powerglove
11. These Walls - Dream Theater
12. Ink - Finch
13. Mr. Brownstone - Guns 'n' Roses
14. Barracuda - Heart
15. 2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden
16. Headless Horse - Jeff Dyck, Saki Kaskas
17. This is Absolution - Killswitch Engage
18. Hysteria - Muse
19. Don't Lose My Number (12"ers Mix) - Phil Collins (a shock if you look at most of my library)
20. Invaders Must Die - The Prodigy
21. Stompbox - The Qemists
22. Little Sister - Queens of the Stone Age (Many other QOTSA songs work as well)
23. Feuer Frei (Bang Bang) - Rammstein
24. Superbeast - Rob Zombie
25. Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones

Any good eurobeat.
Ghosts'n'stuff came on and that made me want to punch it.
Also, Alex S remix of "20% cooler" started playing and that got me into a bit of trouble.

A few I know, besides the obvious love for Rush (I share the love.)

1: Runnin' Down A Dream - Tom Petty
2: Headlong Flight - Rush (This fits.)
3: Joe Satriani - Summer Song
4: When The Heart Rules The Mind - GTR
5: Declaration Day - Iced Earth

If your driving for a long time, may I suggest Pink Floyd. In GT4/5 listening to The Wall during an endurance race at the Nurburgring is a tradition of mine. It's just so relaxing, it makes me focus on the music almost enough that I forget that I'm driving, but not so much that I actually crash. It's not my favourite Pink Floyd album, but it's just magical at the Nurburgring.

👍 Super way to get into the zone.

An obvious one; probably the only stand-out track on the entire album:

Great song, great video, great book:

Finally a bit of teenage rebellion:

Top Gear Anthems The Greatest Ever Driving Songs CD music The UK's favourite authority on all things auto, TOP GEAR is proud to release a collection of 'THE GREATEST EVER DRIVING SONGS'

Some songs are clearly being posted by several people (poll perhaps). One gem i absolutely love is Carbon Kid-Alpine stars it's a nice song on it's own but while driving it's just something else

A good driving song for me needs a nice tempo, not too fast or slow, and some good guitar playing. Songs that meet this criteria for me are: AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down, Rory Gallagher - Don't Start Me Talkin', Blue Oyster Cult - Godzilla, The Who - Eminence Front, Foghat - Slowride, and to round out this post Edgar Winter - Frankenstein.

Nobody said 'Panama' by Van Halen, yet? It's a song about a race car, for crying out loud!!!

Van Halen
Anthrax
Metallica
ZZ Top
Rush
AC/DC
Joe Satriani
Sammy Hagar
Chickenfoot
The Who
Led Zeppelin

Yes yes yes Van Halen.
I was on my way to pick up the Cult's Love album, (which has She sells sanctuary, also a great driving song.) and I was looking for some driving music, turns out that I found a long lost 1984 Van Halen cd. :D "I'll wait" is such an awesome song!

This reminds me that I recently read a magazine column by a well-known racing driver (maybe it was Derek Bell?) who said that he once won a major race while singing "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal out loud in his helmet for the last three laps!

Seriously, though, I agree with somebody earlier who pointed out that while aggressive music may make you put the hammer down, it's not the best thing if you want to drive well.

One song I've found is really awesome for lapping to is "Pau De Arara" by Kiko Loureiro. I kinda stumbled across it while blasting a canyon with a playlist on random and this song came up.

This always gets my racing adrenaline going. Gotta love the speed-metal redo on a disco-era jive. :)

What I do is I just search for songs in GT5 soundtrack and songs featured in their trailers and make a playlist out of it.

Whenever I hear this, I just imagine being all alone, in the late hours of the night, driving along on the highway.
