Best Guitar Solos EverMusic

David Gilmour's solo of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd blows half the stuff posted here out of the water.

I was going to post that from Delicate Sound of Thunder but I couldn't find it on YouTube or Vimeo. It's one of my favorites!

👍

Steve Vai - Tender surrender.

The thing I love about Steve Vai is his virtuosity coupled with his cheesy moves and style of music. Sleazy, cheesy and in many ways tasteless (in my opinion) but together with his amazing skills it creates utter greatness.

A mix between comedy (most likely unintentional) and awe isnpiring skills.

[youtubehd]xAx8y9AjVOs[/youtubehd] 3:40 until the end.
Much better than studio version.
Enough said.

I second that :)
I love the jam at the end.
These two are my favourite jam/solo by John.
I really love the intro jam in the second video.

I dig his approach to music, I know he's not one of those guys that just go full on "shredding mode" but his simplistic playing style that employs melody and emotion is rather beautiful to me. I have a lot of respect for all those guys that you guys put up already but to me his solos and music "speak to me" with a burst of emotion and I genuinely feel connected to music when he plays.

Oops forgot this one...

I don't know about the best - that's subjective - but certainly one of the longest has to be Flower Travelin' Man by Earthless. Awesome! :mischievous:

Here it is in two parts. Yes, it's even too long for Youtube! Good luck...

Wow, I'm shocked someone on GTP has heard of, and is into Earthless. 👍

Try some of this modern Psych goodness.. Another one big solo.

The intro of Flower Travelin' Man reminded me of Demon Cleaner...

You can't forget In My Dreams by Dokken solo at around 2:10, and the song Youth Gone Wild is practically a guitar only song in my opinion, Poison's Nothin' but a Good Time has a great one at 2:22

Check out green grass an high tides by the outlaws not a solo as such more like ten minutes of solos all put together in a guitar extravaganza

Easy,

Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker

Skip right to the 2:00 minute mark :sly:

Now I'm not a shredder in any way, but I came across this last night. I first heard it years ago, but had forgotten about it.

I haven't been inspired by something like this in a long time. My picking speed is up to scratch, and I genuinely think that with a few months practice, I could play this. Although there is a little sweep picking in there, which is my weakness.

Not entirely sure why no one has posted any DragonForce here... Say what you will about their singing and whatnot, they can still play very well.

From about 4:50 on is excellent. Though perhaps it's not actually a "solo" per se, as two people trade off throughout.

Of course, you gotta mention Through the Fire and Flames... :)

An awesome solo as well.

I also gotta second Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover.

Prefer this version, but yes, totally agree its another brilliant version. 👍

Thanks for this! I have this version on my computer, my dad had it on a cassette tape and I recorded the cassete tape into the computer in cubase probably around 10 years ago ish. Never been able to find it since, other than my cassete tape recording, this version you posted is by far my favourite version of the song, its perfect.

About Dragonforce to another poster above, I used to be a fan when I was younger, I just don't think they are that special, I saw them before they made it and they were spot on, then I saw em at download festival and they were sloppy as! They are decent musicians but hardly worthy of "Best guitar solo's ever".

The Unforgiven - Kirk Hammett

Tornado of Souls - Marty Friedman

I could post loads of solos from both these guys but i'll just put those two.

A possible contender - I started learning to play the original version of this waaay back when I was 14. I got the jam riff down eventually, and the first part then gave up hope!

Steve Vai - The Audience is Listening (Really starts at about 1:10)
