Big News: Indy Racing League cars & tracks in GT5

What is more interesting to you, the mag itself or just the poster? I might be able to help if just the poster. PM me if you want to chat.

thanks, but i prefer the mag and the poster... maybe i'd check the airport that is near my house

thanks anyway

How funny, I was just pondering if I should go to the PSN forums as I haven't visited ever since I first made my account, guess I should stay away even longer if its that bad.

BTW: For those curious, I bought my copy from the Hudson News shop just past Gate 14 in Terminal E at the Houston International Airport in Texas.

If any real F1 car (Other then the F2007) is on GT5, then it'll likely be from 2007-2008 since apparently, none of the 2009 cars are available.

Well, they are if you mean their licenses. I have yet to see someone prove to me the Formula 1 license gives exclusive rights to the cars. As I understand it, the F1 license gives exclusive rights to making a game based on F1 and calling it "Formula 1". But otherwise, the circuits, teams, cars and drivers are not exclusive and are available from their respective copyright owners (so to license a McLaren, just pay McLaren).
So I don't see 2009 F1 cars as an impossibility but I doubt there will be many (if any) in, likely only the major manufacturers or championship winners.

Thanks for the info, My friend JohnBM01 could make use of that 👍

I would be very surprised if that was the only Hudson News shop to get early copies, and there are likely Hudson News shops in most major airports, so it's probably not limited to just that airport, but I figured I would mention where I got it just in case.

Really? I thought I read sometime ago that the 2009 cars weren't available to be licensed.

Spotted the mag at a barnes and noble here in new jersey. I assume it's available everywhere in the states by now?

edit---Thanks for the early info and pics btw.

If B&N has it then I suspect you are right and it should be available every where now. 👍

Why? Only reason I can think of that was when the whole FOTA saga was happening. Doesn't Bernie own all the Formula One IP? Not just the Formula One name, but the teams IP as well? I thought (possibly wrongly) that a part of teams joining F1 was that Bernie controls all the IP?

The evidence suggest to me that the cars themselves are copyright property of the constructors/teams and not Formula 1 Management. We have seen several examples in other games, the BMW Sauber in Live for Speed, the F2007 in Gran Turismo, etc.
So as long as Polyphony have paid for the licenses, I see no reason for them not to include them.

Slower open wheel racing. Great news. Wanted this for a while. F1 cars are just too fast for me and others to enjoy.

Grand Am is next in Im sure. DPs have to be a blast to drive, though porsche may pose a problem and may prevent Grand Am's inclusion

Now that you mention it Earth, I would love to see some lower category open wheelers, at least just a token few examples. A Formula Ford and a Formula 3 car would be nice too.

Dont underestimate the speed of Indycars though.
Theyre actually faster in an oval than an F1 car.

I doubt it, PD would only need to exclude the Porsche stickers since The Prototypes themselves are property of Riley Technologies, Coyote LLC, Lola Cars International and Dallara Automobili. One thing would be interesting to find out is how they'll have all the Pontiacs (Stickers and cars) since that is pretty much a dead company. They could use the Lexus name for CGR's 01 and 02 car even though they aren't in the field this year, but I'm curious as to if the Pontiac name can even be used.

Do we know this? Has F1 car ever been driven in oval?

No, but Toyota set the record for the fastest F1 car 1 or 2 years ago if i remember correctly and they had to take off the rear wing and other things to achieve 400 kph on a loooong straight line (i believe it was in Bonneville), Indycars have that speed in Indianapolis while racing.

F1 cars accelerate and break faster, but an IRL car isnt much slower around corners plus more top speed.

I thought they got together again under the IRL name and drive both street and oval curcuits?
They did, but many argue that Champ Car was actually better. I would be one to argue that the series itself was better (at least from a spectator standpoint), but some feel the cars were better too.

Close... It was Honda, with a heavily modified rear end to improve the aerodynamics.

Nobody bought the license for the 07/08 season (hence no F1 games then) but Codemasters have the 09 license. They released F1 for the PSP which includes the cars/drivers from 2009.

Would be great if PD could license some classic F1 cars from each era, such as a 1950's Mercedes, 60's Lotus. 70's Ferrari, 80's McLaren or a 90's Williams for example.

Depending on when codemasters business year ends, PD may be able to buy their F1 license and make it a dlc by summer. possibly..

I think at the end of the 3L V10 era the F1 cars were reaching 230 on the straight at Monza, with the 2.4L V8's in 2009 they managed 218.

I think the inclusion of IRL makes sense, since the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is in the game. If the Indy 500 is in the game, it will probably be one of the endurance racing.

Codemasters are going to produce F1 2010 for pc, 360 and ps3 next year. The fact that Codemasters currently has a licences for producing F1 games does not mean other parties cannot get a license at the same time. If you pay the F1 organization enough they WILL give you the license.

But hey lets be happy with GT the way it is. I played both Codemasters F1 2009 games on psp and Wii. Not worth the money.

F12009 on PSP is about as good as Luca Badoer was this season :dopey:

I'm a huge F1 Fan and the F2007 in GT5P is the best simulation of an F1 car I've played so wish PD could include more F1 cars!

I'd heard that the PSP and Wii F1 2009 games were given to someone else to develop by codemasters while they concentrated on the PS3, 360 and PC 2010 game.
