Big News: Indy Racing League cars & tracks in GT5

HAHAHAHA IRL VS F1.. oh thats a good one, im in stitches...

Still all the same will be good to have Indy cars and the Indy track in GT5.. surely they will have the Indy 500 as an enduro.. i mean, it just makes sense right?

I personally dont feel its terribly relevant. Its not like F1 is the fastest possible cars or Indy is the fastest possible cars, both are limited by their rules and tracks they drive on so you're just comparing apples to oranges. If you gave designers in either motorsport enough money and took away the rules limitations they'd both be able to make something a hell of a lot faster.

Well budget is not really a factor for the likes of Ferrari, Mclaren, or the late Toyota... so the only limitation on F1 is the FIA and the rules they impose as apparently people don't like dead racing drivers so much. An F1 car is as fast, arguably faster than any human should be traveling in a motor vehicle.

From the article:
Everyone we spoke to at Sony ... seem to be hinting at the fact that the team has some huge things planned for GT5's online play.
I can't help but think that it must be an online feature that no other game has (yet), something like racing in real time against the actual drivers in e.g. a WRC event through the iOpener Enabled technology. 👍

But maybe you can think of something else that would be huge.

I was thinking the same while driving to work. Especially since iOpener CEO Andy Lurling says the following in an interview:

Not only closed circuit racing is interesting for gamers to compete against the real drivers in real time on real tracks. We receive a lot of requests from gamers to be involved in a WRC title. At this point, I can only say; keep a close eye on press releases in January!

Well thats pretty debatable ;) Alot of the rules are to make it more competitive and balanced, thus more entertaining for your average viewer, not necessarily to make it safer. And you can always throw more money at racing if you want.

Wow, PD hit spot on with the HID lights on that SLS, they look perfectly like the ligts on my car, their also very sharp and bright. Kudos PD.

TYPO TYPO TYPO!!!! found this typo in the OPM

"GT5 is undeniably gorgeous. Have far have you pushed the PS3?"

LOL Have fare? hahaha
Don't you just love irony?! hahaha ;)

Especially when Mr. Kazunori has guaranteed all versions will be finished at the same time, and promised it will be released in NA and EU very shortly after the Japanese release.
Since when has he GUARANTEED that all versions will be finished at the same time, and PROMISED a release in NA and EU very shortly after?

my local Target Store has reservation for GT5 already. they are saying 20100330 US release, or 03-30-2010 for all you civilians.
30-03-2010 for those who don't speak American ;)

It would be an interesting mix to race F1 and IRL cars and see the end result. Who is going to dominate? Only GT5 can make that possible, hopefully.

Going by times from Circuit de Gilles Villenueve, F1 by quite a margin.

Indycar has a set car from Dallara (or Lola or whoever) each year and it isn't developed much over the year because there is no need.
Whereas over the course of a year in F1, the cars gain several tenths of a second or more depending on how good the base car is and the design team.

Also there's the afforementioned big difference in power and the difference in downforce configurations.

But yeah, it will be fun to make races with NASCAR at Monaco and other such combinations.

In this interview:

"Trust me, it should be very close from this date because our schedules didn't changed. What I can assure you is both versions will be finished at the same time."
Aye, he said lots of other things in interviews too... Both versions though, referring to what? Japan and US, or Japan and EU? EU tends to lag behind due to the number of languages needed in the game. Appreciate the link though 👍

If you are going to quote me, don't go changing what I wrote, especially when you get it wrong! The recognised Japanese date format is the international format YYYY-MM-DD. I wrote "30-03-2010 for those who don't speak American" because the date format in Europe, as with the majority of counties, is DD-MM-YYYY.

Unfortunately, I have to deal with this date format issue day-in and day-out at work as I'm part of a virtual team. We in the European team always spell the date out like "30 Mar 2010" to avoid any confusion, but in the US, it would appear that they don't acknowledge the existence of other countries, so they just use "03/30/2010"...

1) Something smells...I think Turn 10 just pooped their pants

2) NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars + Rain....to think PD calls GT a realistic driving sim...:dopey:

I'm stoked to pop my GT5 disc into my PS3 for the first time. There might be so much to do in GT5 that I might not be able to play any other game until GT6 comes out.

I think the whole Indy thing was fairly obvious since the anouncement of the GT Time Trial. There were too many connections to not see it happen. I never wanted the PS Eye until now, too...good thing I have some gift cards still waiting from Christmas.

Some posters were correct about not much new information, but most of the information was confirmed instead of just speculation, so that's good news. Another surprise was the full exterior damage on all cars. Since I started reading about GT5 awhile back, and hearing about the detail in the cars combined with the dedication they put into them, I didn't see why they just didn't use the verts used to create the cars, combined with the physics engine to create unique damage for each individual car...I think this is going to happen.

Lastly, happycorey mentioned the want for matte finishes on cars. I remember seeing a screenshot of a car that clearly had a matte black finish on it. :)

That was using the old Champ Car Lola-Cosworth which is much faster than the IRL Dallara-Honda. An F1 car would destroy an IRL car on any road or street circuit.

On an oval though, now thats something GT5 will give us the chance to find out...:D

An off topic question: Is there any online store that sells this magazine and sends worldwide? i'd love to have this poster (and unfortunaly, i live in Brazil)

I think you just didn't expect the link and are just being picky:sly: He proved his point, just accept it.

A couple of years back, both series raced on the Montreal circuit (before it was IRL). Back then F1 was 8 seconds faster. Don't know exactly where they went with the rules after that.

In 2009, F1 cars were about 100 kg lighter and had 100 hp more, so that's an uneven playing field.

Hi guys!

A question that has just happened to me, seeing that the online is up to 16 players, with this do we reject the Nascar online, Indy online, etc?
