I actually concur with this, but I'm also "slightly" biased.Have you considered a BMW 435i coupe? You'd have to get a manual, as it doens't have a DCT available, but it's probably quite a fun car. The engine in the 335i has been praised over and over for its smooth power, and BMW makes cars that are generally fun to drive.
The 435i starts at $47K if I recall right, & the car's (as of now; I don't know what BMW will introduce on the 4 series) main optional packages are the M Sport & Premium, which should be about $5K together. Of them, I would highly advise to get the M Sport package. While I can't comment on the 435i, I do know every BMW I have owned or driven with that option is much tighter-feeling in the handling than without; the car just ends up riding slightly rougher. Other than those 2, the x35i models are pretty well spec'd out by BMW.
