I normally see lapped cars doesn't give away to the faster car approaching from behind and both parties will receive SR decrease penalty due to collision. For example today me and another 2 cars were fighting for position #6 and approaching lapped car #14. The lapped car should give the race line to us ( not racing with us ). I gained 2 positions on last lap due to car in front of me being thrown away from lapped car.

What a lapped car should do ?
1. stay in the line but brake earlier to give the race line
2. stay outside from the race line ( this will indicate faster car to take the inside line and execute clean pass )

So my suggestion to PD,

- wave Blue flag on lapped car ( indicating the priority is for the faster car )
- the starting grid gap is too big, make it closer
- GR3 should be 24 players, not 16

Officially they should stay off the racing line at a safe opportunity, obviously they shouldn't barrell off the track at the first sign of a lapping car.

That said, a blue flag at the side of the track would easily be missed, especially if the cars being lapped are a fair bit slower as they are probably concentrating on their race line as they don't necessarily have the skills of those going faster.

The onus for a SAFE pass falls on to the lapping car, not the car being lapped!

Lapped traffic is a sign that matchmaking hasn’t work so well IMO!

They do make me nervous when I see them, as you really have no idea on how they are going to react to a much faster car approaching.

The game should tell them what is going on, but that may not be enough for some, who simply won’t be passed at any cost...

Passing back markers in Lobby too is difficult. Fact of life though here. Pass them like you'd pass anyone else. Why are you hitting them? Yes it slows you down but it will slow down the guy behind you too.

The game has been out 5 mins, People start with a B speed rating. Which is high. It will take ages for the ratings to settle. Be patient. (graveltrap)

It is fair enough to look at safety rating first, but then the game should look at laptime rather than driver rating...

I am sure it will work out in the end, but if the pool is that small that it is putting players that are so mismatched together, then something is wrong ;)

Note: I am patient, I haven’t had contact with a single back maker, they do however slow progress and disrupt a battle!

My recommendation with lapped cars for PD. If there is a collision on,y the car being lapped gets an SR orange flag. It will encourage them to get out of the way.

What about when the lapping car makes a clean and safe attempt to pass a car going a lap down, but the car being lapped doesn’t have the necessary skills to keep their slow car on anything that could remotely be considered any driving line. (good or bad) Then said car being lapped clips the car attempting the overtake sending both off course

One of the reasons why I believe you shouldn't have SR points being deducted from you by lightly crashing/bumping into lapped cars; Sometimes they're just too slow, don't get the racing lines at all and brake earlier than they should or just overcook it and rear-ends you.

Also, some LOUD horns would be nice to have...

I was behind #17 today in the Nurb GP. He wouldn't give way, so I figured to not risk a collision in the last lap and stick to my 2nd place. Turned out at the finish he was 3rd, someone else previously unseen was 1st, who it showed as first was second, and I finished in 4th.... Way to go PD.

If PD can't even count positions correctly, why trust them with blue flags :)

The problem is not passing them, it is them not letting you pass!
Most people I've lapped seem hell bent on taking you out as you go past them, as if they're in a bitter rage of being crap or something.
The best option I can think of is to ghost them.
A blue flag won't cause them to move over, and definitely won't make them not try to block or ram you

Are people really seeing lapped cars in sport races?

If there is a pitstop in the race, then it's likely that the 'lapped' car is down to the bug.

I came into mild contact with a car I lapped on Bathurst as it was coming out of the pits, the guy fought for position until he realised I had lapped him.

If PD put in blue flags before they fix the pit number bug, it would be a nightmare lol

Yes, I've seen lapped cars, and they are definitely that and not a bug.
You can instantly tell they are lapped due to how they are driving, the lines they are taking and mostly how often they spin exiting corners

A nice incentive in addition to a blue flag is the lapped car will get all the penalties and none to the lapping car should they make contact

Some people might abuse this and purposefully hit backmarkers but I think that'd just contribute to them trying to get out of the way
EDIT:

I agree with this though
pit bug > blue flags

Well, not in every category the blue flag indicate like in F1 that you have to get out the racing line...

The blue flag in WEC shows that you will be laped and so it's useless to fight and block, but he can stay in the racing lane doing his race..
The one that gonna lap him has to pass as soon he can.

So in GT, with an blue flag icon indicating that the car behind you is not fighting with you for position will be more than sufficient..

Making an AI that deliberate if the laped car is blocking intencionaly or not is quite difficult to implement in a game.

The should have made more videos with "racing etiquette" and "racing rules" with a little exam at the end of them to unlock the online section

I would add that there should be more etiquette videos, and a few racecraft videos where you need to wait to overtake or ease off to get passed quicker to get back on the racing line quicker and in the slipstream.

Videos and tests to get online are utterly pointless.
Just because you did a test or watched a video at some point in the past, thas has zero bearing on how you conduct yourself during a race

What gets me when passing a lapped car, is when I'm passing them I'm having to use an unorthodox line to get around them (was always told to keep the line when being lapped) and they move into where I'm passing them. Usually results in me putting two wheels on the grass. USE THE RADAR

They'll be doing it on purpose, that's why people complain about lapped cars and why this thread was created.
