Thanks for the replies and suggestions fellas regarding lightning protection. This one is solely my fault though. Saw lightning getting close so pulled the plug disconnecting the two TV's and PS3's, shut down the PC prior to pulling the cord out for it and the modem (router) (and removing the phone connection) however one of the boys asked me about something to eat at that point and like a dill l went to make something for him, forgetting to pull those cords out of the wall. A few seconds later there was a lightning strike just outside, and the rest is history. Telco company is sending another new modem but don't know how it will go starting from scratch with a new PS3. Anyway we'll see.

I guarantee it'll just be your PSU that'll need replacing mate. Try looking Ebay or Amazon for a cheap second-hand one, if it still doesn't work then just return to sender and at least you've only spent a few bob to know if it is completely fried.. There's no way i would fork out another ton 2 ton before trying out the PSU method.

I'm afraid its not the PSU Crank! Dalone stated that the PS3 mains cable was not plugged. The spike went through the network cable, so I'm afraid the motherboard has blown, since the network card is embedded.
i don't know if you can get Raycap in Australia, they are the best IMO. Check them out here

Yep, had already pulled the cords for the TV's and PS3's, my one is connected (online) via a blue cable from the modem but the boys is connected via wi fi. Thinking l maybe better off next time using wi fi on both. Although our wet season is nearly over then we have about 6 months of hot and dry weather.Main water line burst last week and am trenching and laying 100 mtrs of new line tomorrow so will have to leave the PS for a bit. Never rains here but it pours.

Oh right. Misread it, sorry.
That's a damn shame then if it's the motherboard. I heard you can get them repaired fairly cheap but they always seem to malfunction again after a certain amount of time. I think he's best bet is to buy a new PS3 then sadly.

Sadly when mainboards get toasty from a surge they tend to take a few other parts with them and sometimes it's not a entire fry on the other parts so they die down the road. best bet buy a new unit. if you can yank the HDD and connect it to a computer and copy it you can save your game data.

Had a last go at it just before closure and i could see 2/10 on my ghost -but just couldn' t nail 'em...

But who am i to complaint? i got my best ever result at p38 (p3 without Wheel!) with 1.27.949!

With that, i would've won my first point in "national top50 finishes" in the Mygranturismo-stats! ...how i miss those days with Milouse's place! I've said before that PD/Sony should know that when we're out there "fighting" for every thousend of a sec., we live on stats -the more, the merrier. So if they want to use these data commercially; get on with it!! Or else; deliver them. Right now they're just robbing us of a Facility for no damn reason... -ok; that was a complaint afterall....

Congrats to all who did good and see you on the Next one!

this is off-topic, but how can a lightning strike damage your PS3 trough the network cable? I've had both the PC and PS3 not only plugged in but actually running! through multiple thunderstorms. even when the fuse/RCD went out, there where no damage whatsoever...

I always have the PC or PS3 off when there is a thunderstorms or lighting around because there is a chance you may get a power surge in you house. But you better be safe than sorry.
