BMW Z4 Coupé Concept
BMW has taken the wraps off a new concept Z4 Coupé at the Frankfurt motor show.

The new car is a fixed-roof version of the Z4 roadster and, although a one-off creation, looks likely to make it into production.

If it does, it will look to take on the likes of Porsche's new Cayman, and BMW says that a production version of the Z4 Coupé would be designed to appeal to the driving enthusiast.

The coupé bodyshell offers better torsional rigidity than the Z4 roadster, and BMW has hinted at a shorter final drive for the production car, giving improved acceleration.

Power comes from BMW's new 3.0-litre straight-six engine, which develops 265bhp and has 232lb ft of torque.

Performance is expected to be impressive - 0-62mph will be served up in a claimed 5.7 seconds, with a limited top speed of 155mph.

The Coupé's body and overall layout is based on the roadster's, offering two seats and a sleek coupe roofline.

BMW says that despite appearing more curved than the old Z3, the new car will swallow two golf bags.

The Concept also gets a distinctive interior, using contrasting leather and aluminium, and sits on specially developed 19-inch alloy wheels.

Being able to hold two golf bags is a huge plus in my books. I hate cars with trunks that can't hold at least two golf bags. Seriously.

Yeah I know but now that its pretty certain to hit the public roads I thought I would honour it with a new thread.
There aint no problem with that, my thread wasn't specific to this car anyway.

Apart from the curves making the side profile messy, it looks pretty good! Much better than the old Z3 Coupe which in my opinion, looked like a shoe.

The lip at the back could have been designed to blend in with with rear haunchesa bit better imo, overall the car looks good imo.

I'd take a Tuscan over either.

Which reminds me, I nearly cried today. I saw a bit of some show on Men and Motors called Auto Mundial, I don't know if you could get a more boring guy to do the vioce over. But anyway, they had a bit on TVR's, and they were riced up, ugly bodykits added, one had over 15 tv screens in it. There was a Tuscan with a front endthat looked like it was done by Veilside, you know how a lot of their kits extend the front in a tasteless way. I could have screamed, I did scream.

:nervous: I'm glad i didn't see that

Eh :odd:, it looks nothing like a TVR.

You are looking at the same pictures I am right? The ones in the first post of this thread?

Not that I am a TVR fan but ricing one up with body kits, 15" TVs and a fart can seems very wrong. Wrong for anycar but more so for a TVR.

TVRs are supposed to be mean, raw, wide eyed, butt clenching, sweaty palm driving experiences...not riced out with PS2s.

Yeah.
These are TVR's.

Okay so it has 4 wheels a roof. They use very different design techniques.

It's the boxey German version of this....

(new photos coming in a second....)

If this car and a 1 series BMW mated you would get the Z4 coupe.

Get the pic up of the one you mean, I'm guessing you put up the Sagaris by Jacks reply but that you really mean the T350C or T350T.

Even from the side theres very little design that they have in common.
I did have a pic here but it was huge.

Sorry mate but I'm very much in dissagreement here, neither the 1 series or the Z4/Z4 coupe have any lines in common with the TVR T350C and Sagaris. Theyare very different, the T350 doesn't have a prominent rear hauch, it has smoother flowiong lines, theres almost nothin in common between them.

I suppose they are both, Front engine, rear drive coupes, with similar sized I-6 engines, so they will look a little bit similar, maybe.

Or the following few TVRs all crashed together the Z4 coupe would come out of the heap.....

You're clutching at very short straws .

Not really. I showed the same pictures to 8 others in this office, all car guys (and girl) and they all agreed.

Though we all agree the BMW Z4 coupe will be a hell of alot more useful than a TVR. Maybe not as scary to drive but much better suited to 99% of people.

Then again I'd rather have a Porsche....

I don't think it will be much more useful. However anyone that thinks the Z4 coupe looks like a T350C needs to look again. The Z4 coupe has prominent rear hauches, the T350 does not, the following picture highlits the differences. Each of the red circles show where there is a noticable difference in the Z4 over the T350 and thats not covering all the differences, then the whole car would be red.

We will need to agree to disagree here....now that I see them on top of one another it is even more obvious.

Nothing against TVR but I'd take the BMW over it any day....then again I'd take a Porsche Cayman over both.

i am very surprised by the z4 coupe. it turned out very well, especially compared to the cayman. i like the looks of the new boxter, especially the rear, but the rigid top has destroyed the looks. if you follow the roof line from front to rear and extend the roof line were it ends you get a 911. the rear end just does not fit to hat roof line. the bimmer on the other hand looks gorgeous with the new roof. add M-Power to that and you have one great car.

i'll take a close look on the IAA next week.
