You can actually win this challenge on Comfort Medium tires. 64 bhp (most power adders, sans intake manifold... which does nothing, and no irreversible mods) and a fully customizable transmission give you lap times in the 2:16s.

Probably not as cheap as the Stage 3 turbo + Sports Soft only, but there's a lot of challenge to be had in sticking with Comfort Mediums... you need to drive much more carefully.

Oh... FC transmission is a must. The 5-speed close ratio tops out at 100 km/h, which loses you 30 seconds a lap no matter how good your tires are.

With the FC Tranny, a 160 km/h top speed works with Sports tires and higher, as you can carry more speed around the sweepers. On stock Comfort Mediums, you want to lower it to 150 km/h, as this allows you to maintain speed uphill in 4th gear better. This makes a drastic difference in laptimes on Comfort tires.

I tried to find a real cheap Setup.Maybe you can try with Sports meds or hards and save another 2000-4000 Cr. ;)

This morning before going to work I made a purchase, which for most of today I thought had ruined my GT5 career. I bought the VW Schwimmwagen for 625,000 and figured I'd make an easy 175,000... After my first lap I realized time was slipping the wrong way, adding 8 secs each lap. So I tuned my car a little, a few grand can't be too much, I'll still make 165 - 170,000. A few more trips back and forth between the parts shop and event proved me wrong...

So before heading to work I joined gtplanet and posted for the first time asking what the hell I was doing wrong. Got back from work and thanks to the tip about FC transmission managed to get my "money" back from the VW.

Love the seasonal events, lets me test cars I normally couldn't afford at my early stage in the game!

I purchased a Schwimmwagen a few weeks ago as a car to take online that not many people have

Oh well, time to find another one

You're 68 and your playing GT5? :D

69 actually and have been playing computer games since the Atari 800 in the early 70s. Played and finished GT1-4 and working on 5 and hope to still be playing when 6 comes out in 2020 or so.

Cheapest build I can figure, mathematically is Sports Softs, Stage 3 Turbo, ECU and FC Transmission. That's about 675k and makes it a good challenge because you need to absolutely NOT slide around to keep your momentum up. I can just barely tweak 2.17s with that and could win with a completely clean race and good drafting.

Sports Mediums just lack that little bit of grip to keep momentum up through the corners and around the loop... maybe if you were Superman, you could do it... but it'd be a monumental amount of effort and +1000% difficulty just to save an extra 2000 credits.

If you're like me who uses AT almost exclusively in this game, including the Vettel challenge, you need to get used to MT for this event.

AT just doesn't work here. My guess is due to the narrow power band. You'll gain several seconds per lap with MT over AT.

Racing soft tires are fun. I rolled mine in the last turn on the first lap and on the next lap put it on its nose braking for that turn.

I'm only 40. Been addicted to video games since I can remember. I'll probably play them until I can't do it anymore. My Gandmother turns 85 next week and still plays video games. Dad is pretty close to your age and he's a Ps2 guy but hasn't made the jump to the Ps3. I taught myself to "Basic" way back when on an Atari 800xl.

I am 44 and we seem to have went through almost the same computer background except mine was a Atari 400 with an aftermarket keyboard upgrade. Nothing like waiting 45 minutes for a game to load off the tape drive only to have it error on the last block and have to start over.

I just won easily with Comfort Soft tires, FC Trans, Stage 3 Turbo, and Racing Filter.

Trick to keep it from spinning out on the brakes, is to brake on the straightaway before you turn into the corner. Super smooth that way.

Edit: And why can't you sell it!?

Is this car a prize car in A/B Spec? I don't have it in my garage and don't want to spend 625k from the dealership only to win 800k therefore making a small profit.

Would someone be kind and lend me the car?? 👍

There are people offering it on the Marketplace, already.

Otherwise, you have to buy it, or you have to have been born in 1942 to get it as a birthday car.

If upgraded, and running about 97 mph, you don't need to let off the accelerator, except for the hairpin...
Do NOT use the brakes, ever!

This was fairly easy once I realized you don't need to brake... thing corners quite well...
Not sure what the minimal upgrades would be, probably as reported by others...

Stage 2 Turbo, Ecu, Exhaust, Sport Soft, Sports Suspension, Transmission, clutch.

Easy win with over 20 secs advantage. Actually quite fun, especially the WTF moment when braking for the first time!

Stage 3 Turbo, no engine upgrade, full weight reduction and fixed sport suspension, full drivetrain mod, and customized tranny, Sports Hard. Won ~ 8 sec. Can probably do with stage 2 Turbo. No aids(including ABS).

Setting the bias to 3:1 and some LSD tuning goes a long way of helping the back end settle.

I'm not an expert racer, but was able to win it by about 5 sec with upgrades to increase HP to 53 (no engine tuning or weight upgrades, stage 2 turbo) with sports-soft. As someone said, the trick is to brake before entering the corner.

I could take the first corner at around 78mph. Trickiest part was the sharp corner after the jump, which is hidden by the small uphill bump. I found out that by braking to 60mph just before the hill, I could take that corner on full throttle at about 65mph and had good exit speed for the next stretch. It is left foot braking all the way with one foot firmly planted on the throttle throughout.

I tried with 51HP and came second by about 3 sec. I'm sure I could win if I don't make any mistakes on the crucial exits, but didn't have the patience to try again.

Not sure if they do give you a paint chip but the correct name for it should be dunkengelb if they did!

No, it's not. That's not even a German word. You probably mean "dunkelgelb", but you would rather say "sandfarben".

I really like the darker blue-green colour, but as they have no names, I doubt they are available.

If you're a fan of reversible upgrades, you can win this one pretty easily with no weight reduction or irreversible engine tuning.

My recipe was:
- Racing transmission is a must (set to 180 km/h or so)
- First tried with all smaller engine boosts, like exhaust, intake, drivetrain etc. (will get you to 36 hp or so). not enough.
- Sports Soft tires so you can use fluid driving through corners without the dangerous process of braking too much on this car
- In the end I stuck a Stage 1 turbo on (because it's low rpm's), which gets you to 57 hp, I think, and that's enough to overtake already at the end of the 4th lap. (so you could probably do with some exhaust or intake part less)

With a racing exhaust, the Schwimmwagen sounds like a bloody airplane!!

Ran it with SS tires and 65hp NA. Didn't feel a turbo was "right" for a 40s military vehicle. lol

I compare it to driving an early 911. Very tossable, but you have to be careful not to scrub off speed. It takes forever to get it back.

Finding this one tough. I golded the other 4 but the best I was going earlier was 3rd and spun out too much and ruined it so I quit. Will have another later or tomorrow. I had it set the transmission set to 99mph and that didn't work but at 124mph it felt better.

I did do the birthday trick to get this car.

600,000 for this car, No thanks!

Won this twice (two accounts) with 50hp and Sports soft with an FC Trans. No other modifications. Passed the Sports 800 in the last corner and won by 0.21 and 0.057 seconds respectively.

Staying low on the rotary will also shave off some time. Also, I think following the driving line can lead to some problems, especially when it leads over curbs. When I did put it on, I found the brake points were way too late --especially at a good speed to enter the straight. I'm curious. Did anyone get over 90mph on that straight? I ask because, even if turbo were installed, the first turn seems to limit the top end speed.
