I am enjoying this race immensely with my G27. :) Very good competition, certainly challenging from a tuning perspective. In fact I'd say this is more of a tuning challenge than a driving challenge. I can't imagine one could win this with the stock tune on the car.

I have done it probably 10 times, tweaking and tuning each time, getting quicker and quicker each lap and tweak.

Thanks for the tips fellas! Happy racing!

I'm with other people who've said this is the worst race in the game. I can't stand you people who say it's the easiest, I hate you. I can't get better than 6 to save my life using any of the tunes found in various threads on this forum. I've tried every combination of aids and tunes that I can think of. It doesn't matter how well I think I'm doing, at some point one of my wheels will catch a blade of grass and send me spinning, flipping, spiralling through space and time.

You're actually trying to drive to FAST then. You don't want be out of control. Take the Nascar out on some practice laps without the pressure of winning the race. Take notes of your lines (i.e. TURN RACING LINE OFF, it doesn't help), where you are entering too fast, and where you could be going a little faster. Nordschleife is NOT an easy track to learn, but it is fantastic once you get it down.

Calm down, drive slower, and focus on your lines. Oh, and use a wheel if you aren't already. This race should be cake if you aren't crashing all the time.

It felt really good doing this challenge, like the NASCAR challenges back in NASCAR 06!

I beat the race by dropping the Speed in my setup to the 230 mark, its lower so it keeps the car from dropping into first which makes a HELL of a difference IMO.

I just love the long curves that your flat out on, giving chase to someone and diving in on the brakes to outbrake them to the corner in these heavy beasts. I really hope this challenge stays long enough until I can get my racing wheel :)

I like this setup too

Maxed Aero's
-1 -1 Ride Height
12.0 / 13.5 suspension
2.0 / 1.0 camber
Dampers (Both) 7 / 7
Anti Roll: 5 / 5
Transmission: 300
LSD: +10 on the Acc

I finished as 6th by picking up this challenge again after some very dissapointing attempts.

I had 6,55.xxx and 6,54.xxx with ALOT of mistakes. And i can easylie see how those add up to this 18 seconds I am behind the lead - with 9 sec for each lap.

I`d say I had at least 5 mistakes on each lap, now I am confident i can win this race!

The thing is thats the magic of GT5, it doesn`t give you all for doing nothing special.

So I am going to race that tank again and again until i`ve eaten 9 sec away from each lap. And then i will be proud of myself :D

^ It sounds sad but my heart was beating big time, I was playing it UBER safe to make sure I brought that #88 home in better shape than Dale Jnr. does each weekend lol

So forgive me for having a worse second lap than the first lol. I honeslty thought it was easier catching them then keeping the 2nd place car a good distance behind me.

You guys who are struggling with this race likely just need to learn the track a little better. Fast times on the Nord are all about knowing the track like the back of your hand. You have to know which corners (or series of corners) you can take at full throttle and which ones you need to be ready for. If you're having to do any kind of reaction-driving you will pull significantly slower times than someone who has that track down to a science, even if you have a slightly faster car.

^ yes, 100% agree. I enjoyed this Nascar thing, more than anything else, just forcing me to get to know the track much better.

Same here. Not a fan of this one. I have gold on the other ones, but I'm familiar neither with the NASCARs nor the Ring. After a few tries, I got fourth. That's fine with me. 👍 The cost/benefit of spending the time to learn the Ring in a NASCAR isn't there for me right now. I'll def sit down and learn the Ring, but on my own terms in a car I like, like the 430 Scuderia or the NSX. Anyway, looks like there are new Seasonals up!

Let me start with, I hate Nascar. Truly and really, hate Nascar events in GT.

But since I had to, I took on this track, and the first times it was a night mare with driving the car in stock shape, just couldn't keep up, then I started to test with some other set-ups, and now, finally after maybe 6 try's, I won, and this is what I used:

Maxed Aero's
-1 -1 Ride Height
12.0 / 13.5 suspension
2.0 / 1.0 camber
Dampers (Both) 7 / 7
Anti Roll: 5 / 5
Transmission: 300
LSD: +10 on the Acc

This made it possible for me to win with a time of 6,44...

Finally I can be done with this and get rid of the Nascar's!

Great tune! 👍 I'm surprised that after the 3rd go I came first, I'm not that good a driver either. Thanks! :)

MY GOSH!
Here's the setup I have, Im no tuner by any means but this is good for me and a winner the next time I try.

Aero: 50 / 70

Transmission: 217 (Going to increase to 230)

Suspension: Ride: -5 / -5
Spring: 14.8 / 13.3
Dampers (Both) 7 / 7
Anti Roll: 5 / 5

Camber: 2.0 / 1.6

All others are default. Also, this was in the #88 Chevy. Had a Toyota (#83) but changed oil and engine is run in. Had a Ford (#99) changed oil and it was too high. My last one was an untouched 88 as above which my mate gifted me.

Thanks for sharing your setup. Tried it as it was the first i saw in this thread.
Just had the RH set at 2/5 ;
LSD set at 10/20/10
And a bit more camber , 2.6/1.8 and Toe in/out -0.15/0.20
I used the Carl Edwards Ford NASCAR and with the mixed tune it felt quite stable through the corners.
I managed to run both laps below 6,40 and finished first at the first try

Thanks again for sharing

Bryan

Yep, the right setup is.... learn the 'ring! That's the best thing about that challenge so far. Hope there's another tough seasonal (with tuning limitations for fark's sake!) on the 'ring!

So are all the NASCAR cars in the game essentially the same? or do some have different power or handling quirks? is one more suited for this challenge than another? I'm using the Gamestop pre-order car.

Just finished this race too and enjoyed it fairly...

Maxed aero, tc3 and racing soft. Pulled off a 6:38 the first lap and messed some parts of the second lap. Still had 14 seconds on 2nd place.

Like a lot of people I was amazed at how well my stock car handled on the ring, it was one of the most exciting races around the ring that I've ever done. Had a couple little mistakes but still turned in a 6:44 as my best lap. I'm definitely going to be running time trials on Nurby now.

By the way, my set-up is much softer. I find that the default one is way too stiff.
This is with Skid Recovery off and ABS 1:

Aerodynamics 50/70
Transmission 370 Km/h
LSD 30/50/20
Ride height 0/0
Spring rate 11.2/10.0
Dampers Extension 3/3
Dampers Compression 3/2
Anti-Roll Bars 5/1
Camber Angle 2.8/1.0
Toe angle 0.00/0.15
Brakes Balance 7/6

This tune is pretty amazing. Turned into a car I actually enjoy driving.

This worked so well for me - I really like how you're so stable accelerating out of turns. Is that due to the lowered acceleration LSD?

I did an oil Change, and installed Racing Soft Tires, and beat it on my 3rd try, with no aids other than ABS at 1, and stock suspension. Slower seems to be faster. The harder I drove, the slower I went.

So, to get ready for the WRS I had to create a new account and level up. I decided to send myself this Nascar, and get all my leveling done in 1 easy Race.

Upon starting the race on the new account, I realized all of the assist were on... whatever they're set to by default. I decided to give it a try anyways, and low and behold the car was about 3 times easier to drive. I don't enjoy the driving aids, but for those of you who just want to finish the race before the 12th, I'd say throw the Aids back on default and go for it.

One thing to keep in mind, that helps you stay calm, is that it appears harder to get from 12th to 6th, than from 6th to 1st. I don't know if it's just in my head, or if the front 6 cars are actually a bit slower than the back 5.

On the long stretch, it's better to bump draft a car all the way down, than it is to pass them. Together you can cruise at ~217mph vs the ~204mph alone.
