So the new rule would be to quit the game after each failed attempt and start over?

IMHO it's the fastest lap that counts no matter the amount of attempt or laps.
If not we open Pandoras box.

Well they could only start over on a new day. But I get your point, someone could be trying for a few days or weeks before posting.
Fastest lap is final though, so I get your point.
I'll have to try and allocate some time now:D

the other interesting thing about Jacks formula, is that every time you start out on cold tires...
i find doing that... the grip isn't really full until you are through the first set of "esses"... that's a few seconds right there... at least for me.
pretty sure I could go into the high 6:30's (6:39.999 lol) on lap 2-3 with full grip from go... but so far have been following Jacks lead, and, cannot get there... much less contend.

Yeh, I like my method for judging race pace, but none of its provable without home time stamped CCTV footage lol, and even that could be faked.

With fastest lap, it doesn't matter if its a fluke 1 in 10 and if you dared try it in a race you may end up on the grass, but it is a finite test that cant be edited to misrepresent how it was done.
I'm going to set out to see what my fastest lap is once I've got to level 40.

funny... my buddy can fast lap like nobodies business... repeat is something he struggles with... when he slows to be "certain" he is much slower... I am the exact opposite, I simply cannot wrap my mind around taking risk... even tho it's just a game... I can go 6:42's lap after lap... try and go faster and my mind wigs out and I'm in the grass/wall... probably why in Sport I'm always qualifying ~14th... or back.

Yeh, my intention was to see what I'm missing from the 991 in race pace.
I haven't tried to set my fastest lap, ie going round and around until I get close to a perfect lap or match my ghost.

I've just gone into the game clicked record and run one lap, one go at it.
Kind of like saying 'watch this!' and then performing, without going so fast that I could make a big mistake, and have to start again saying 'aghhh, hang on, watch this one' while the crowd walks off to watch something else.

I don't hold anything against eminems lap or how many warmups it took to do it, but his first 3 laps were fails and his 4th lap was not his 1st lap.

Playing in helicopter view is also playing a different game IMO.

I didn't think of it till now, but the best way to prove it's a one lap attempt is to show the menu screen in the video so the daily miles is visible. So would need to try it before doing anything else that day in the game.

Edit : maybe a better challenge, would have been to do 5 laps and take the average. Not sure how long can be recorded though with the share button. I'll have a look when I switch PS4 on.

Ah, I see. You've done a very good job there 👍. If I take into account that ...

... it's pretty much all I've driven in the game for over 100 hours. And Nurburgring is my best track.

... I guess I got a little margin of error for free with about 0,7 km on my ODO .
It's friendly competition and as long as everybody's honest about his times and how they were achieved ( which I presume ), I don't see a problem ( correct me if I'm wrong ) ... and we're experienced enough to know the difference between a one-shot and a practise session.

Btw is helicopter view another term for roof cam ? I'd never care for what cam someone uses, this is individual liking / decision so whatever it is I'm ok with it.

Yeh I would be impressed if someone comes along who uses cockpit view, once I've set my fastest lap I will try and expect to beat it in VR mode.
I think helicopter view offers so much of an advantage, seeing the apex and track laid out ahead of you, not having any blind corners, as well as seeing exactly where your car is on the track and how stable it is.
But I get that its personal preference to how someone plays the game arcade mode or sim mode.

Introducing arbitrary rules every time he goes faster than you certainly suggests the opposite...

I don't know of any top wheel drivers who use "helicopter" view - it's normally only pad drivers who use it. In any case, I don't think there's any evidence to show helicopter view is an explicit advantage (if anything it would be the opposite, given the prevalence of those who use bumper/roof cams in the top spots).

If I'd switch to roof cam I'd surely miss any sense of speed and therefore wreck my car every second corner overshooting it .

I know a lot of people take cockpit view as the one and only sim cam, but it's just not true imo 'cos it can't compensate for the ability to move your head and your eyes and to fade out / work around unimportant content ( like a pillars ).
VR maybe is another thing - yet I don't have it .

@Iceman I didn't spend much thought in 'creating a challenge', I'm not changing rules, I'm trying to see how I compare to others under the same conditions.
ie race starts and your off. Come off and that's race over.
Its not clear of the conditions how I set my laps unless you watch the videos.

I was hoping a top wheel user would follow the same conditions I did for my videos and show me how its done, I cant watch eminems video to improve myself because hes used a view I will never look at in the game.

I doubt any wheel users would have bought a wheel to then use an arcade game view, top or otherwise.
Before I bought a wheel I was great with a pad and helicopter view, I reckon if I had learned to use the wheel and kept the arcade view, I would have a benefit in seeing the track and seeing blind corners etc. But I cared more for immersion than future benefits.

@ROCKET JOE I would prefer the sense of speed of helicopter view, it looks like you have time to think ahead. Its the preferred view of my nephews even when they use the wheel. Yep its a shame cockpit mode cant include both wing mirrors, I bought a psone because it was going to be used as a wingmirror in an f1 game years ago - shame it never got developed.

maybe @eminem09494 will share to Gt Sport replays, and we can watch on our consoles and switch views... please??
If I used helicopter view, I bet I could not even go down the back straight...
Yeh that would be ideal, everyone could be happy.
I wish there was a button to quickly switch to helicopter view for overtaking on the winding straights. I look at my radar to see if there is track width lol
