Borderlands 2

Super Novi
I've...never heard of this guy. At first I saw the news on the BL Wiki and I thought someone was trolling, but I was mistaken.

He used to be known as one of the best zombie youtubers along with syndicate. Although he turned more to BL2 these last few years. He was also a good friend of Wicked Shrapnel. (Prominent youtuber).

As tragic as it is, this is what happens when people drink and drive. Even if he wasn't driving (does anyone know whether he was or not?), he shouldn't have gotten in a car with a drunk driver. Still, whether he was the drunk driver or not, he didn't deserve to die for such a mistake.

I hate to follow up such a post with banal chat about games again, but then again that is what this thread is for... In the last hour I've found a Legendary Sickle from a chubby Stalker and a Legendary Nurse from a chubby Spiderant. That's not bad going, especially as I'm playing solo. I guess they made chubby enemies more common, before today I'd seen two of which I managed to kill one, one was a Rakk and the other a Skag.

Also I finished the Captain Scarlett DLC, side quests and all (excluding the repeat of the last mission and the raid bosses), it was... Very meh. Funny how it took me over a year to finish it just the once.

Edit: Make that two Legendary Sickles, I just got a lv68 one from a chubby Spiderant during the Lost Treasure quest (in the Caustic Caverns). +51% melee damage vs. the +46% I had from the lv65 version I picked up less than an hour ago.

Edit again: Wow. I just accepted the Old Slappy quest and set off to go and get my arse handed to me because Krieg isn't very good against normal Threshers, let alone huge ones. Sure enough, I was doing absolutely no damage to him and he put me in Light The Fuse, I decided to just give up so I held E to detonate, and... It killed him, from pretty much full health. I'm guessing it's because the explosion cut all of his tentacles at once. I wonder if I can repeat that, and I also wonder what his drops are...

E to detonate? Do you play on computer?

Well what other system uses a keyboard for gameplay.
none.
I know that sounds sarcastic/snarky...but that is not my intent.

On another note...Using my first Gunzerker. My DPUK is...still at level 50...and I am Level 66...and right now I am in the second DLC, desperately looking for another one. I've found a Pocket Rocket, which is suitable for now. The Grog Nozzle is incredibly helpful in the left hand, the shotgun effect decimating nearly anyone stupid enough to walk in front of me. I've also grown a liking towards the Fastball...considering how much sheer damage it can dish out. Most enemies are literally instant-gibbed upon impact.

Yeah, the Fastball is so good that I had to replace the lv65 one I got when I killed the Sheriff at lv64 for a new one when I reached lv68. So I have a lv64 shock, 68 explosive and 70 incendiary, which is nice. I also managed to grab a Gunerang from Henry before I headed out for the weekend, I didn't get a chance to look at the stats though.

I just started the Torgue DLC yesterday, got as far as A Montage then stopped, so I might go and grind the bar fight for tokens and XP. Maybe by the time I've got enough for an Unkempt Harold I'll be level 72 (I think I'm still 68).

The odd thing is I have not found one Unkempt Harold. The Pocket Rocket I have is pretty great, especially with the blast radius and the Grog Nozzle's special effect that may or may not trigger.

I don't think I've ever found an Unkempt Harold either, but I've never tried to farm Savage Lee so I guess my odds are pretty low.

Today I finished off the story and a lot of the side missions of the Torgue DLC, I'd already done most of it with Zer0 anyway so there weren't any surprises. I was level 71 when I finished, so I thought I'd just focus on getting to 72 whilst accumulating Torgue Tokens the best way I know how; farming the bar fight. Krieg is just the best character for that, I've got him specced to the bottom of his left and middle trees so now as well as being able to mutate into a badass psycho, enemies explode when I kill them. That can and does chain very nicely, to the extent that enemies spawn into the bar area already dead, and killing one enemy of any kind can result in three of the badasses you're supposed to be killing all dying at once. I tried to record it but Afterburner didn't seem to work. Here's a screenshot of my Krieg's trees.

Anyway, so I'm done with grinding the bar fight for now as I have around 625 tokens, after I've found and bought a Harold with a blade on it (for obvious reasons) I might come back and grind to get something else but the other Torgue legendaries don't bother me all that much.

On YouTube, I saw a video review of "Borderlands" and "Borderlands 2." I usually see Borderlands 2 on the bargain shelves at Wal-Mart. I usually don't know whether or not to pick it up. Borderlands 2 seems like a game I would vastly enjoy. I kind of been looking for some kind of modern first-person shooter to buy just to get among the crowd. I did my "Call of Duty" and "Battlefield" research. However, I think the Borderlands series seems very cool. So I probably would check out "Borderlands 2" and give it a go.

If I do get it and if I do get to play around with it, I'll be sure to share my experiences here on GTP.

Bladed Unkempt Harold? Not a good idea, especially with Krieg. The reason why I say this is because Krieg has a hidden melee damage bonus scales to his level. At level 45, any bladed weapon with a 50% boost will instead weaken his melee attacks. It would have been better if you got a DP (AKA Double Accessory so aptly named Double Penetrating) Unkempt Harold.

I do recommend getting the DLC if you want an even longer experience. I haven't gotten my hands on the Bloody Harvest, but I plan on getting all three of the Head Hunter mini-DLC's once they are out.

Is that so? Does that mean the +100% of the Law is reducing my melee damage? To be fair I only actually use it to restore health, in one on one combat it has saved my life countless times.

And I have the Bloody Harvest DLC, I don't think it's really that great. Obviously I was always going to buy it and I'll buy the others too, but the new head is just a pumpkin (I had been hoping for something unique and awesome for each character...) and the boss fight isn't any fun, but there is a secret boss I haven't fought yet.

I am not sure. I am just guessing, but using super blunt math, the Law would only slightly increase your damage if you are at level 61 (considering his bonus is at 77.6%), but I don't know what it is at level 72, but I would assume it is so close to 100% (or over) that it wouldn't be much of a benefit.

This was me about a year ago posting the exact same thing. :)

I was looking to get something other than the average Military FPS and wasnt sure that Borderlands would be my cup of tea. As a long time player of serious and for want of a better word "Realistic" shooters i wasnt sure i would like it, But. I tried it and absolutely loved it, The countless missions and quests, Vary large, But Detailed and varied world, Cool and entertaining characters, Humor, Rewarding loot system And Easy movement and controls just make it a breath of fresh air in what was for me at that time a dull, stodgy, neverending stream of "Modern military" FPS', And all that before you even get to those uniquely beautiful graphics.

I wish i could do it justice but you should just play it already and experience it for yourself. ;)

I'll consider the recommendations by both you Super Novi and ryanaldoblanco. I may pick up "Borderlands 2" based on what I've seen and read.

If you do pick it up, Pick up GOTY edition. It has all 4 DLC's (Captain Scarlett Pirates Booty, Mr. Torgue Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlocks big game hunt, Tiny Tina's Assault on the Dragonkeep), Both characters (Krieg, Gaige) The first level increase, Creature Slaughter dome, Character skins, and the Premier Club pack.

That's a lot of game right there. I'm just estimating here, but this is how many hours I think you could get out of that DLC if you did everything once, without getting stuck anywhere, with each character:

Normal playthrough: 15h (my first was over 24 hours but second was 10h)
TVHM: 18h
UVHM: 20h
Total vanilla game play time: 53 hours

DLCs (I don't think I've 100% completed any of these yet so these are rough guesses, also only counting one playthrough of each, not one playthrough at each difficulty level (which is possible)):
Captain Scarlett: 7h
Torgue: 7h
Hammerlock: 6h
Tiny Tina: 8h
Digistruct Peak: First run, according to YouTube walkthrough video lengths, 45m. The last (8th) run would be more than that but I don't know how long, so let's say an average run through of 1h, total of 8h.
TK Baha's Headhunter pack: 45m, excluding the secret other boss.

Total play time with one character: 53 + 36h 45 = 89h 45m
And as there are six characters, that's about 538h 30m.

In real life there's far, far more than that; I've done about eight normal playthroughs, seven TVHM, three UVHM (and I reset one of those completed runs), Captain Scarlett once all the way through but not 100% complete, Torgue twice (also not 100%), Hammerlock not even once all the way, Tiny Tina once and a half, I've never even been to Digistruct Peak and I've done the Headhunter pack boss once (but not the secret boss), and I've been playing for a hair under 587 hours. I have spent a fair amount of time grinding badass challenges, though, and farming. Oh yeah, farming will easily add a good few hours.

So if you love the game, you get so much for your money. The thing is, lot of people I know didn't even finish one normal playthrough!

Edit: So I killed Rouge three times today, once I just got the Skullmasher and Baby Maker, the subsequent times I also got a Hydra, so that was nice... I considered farming it all night but frankly I can't be bothered, I've got a lv70, 71 and 72 'masher now so I might respec Zer0 for sniping as he approaches the cap. As unlikely as it is, I really, really, really hope Gearbox make the Cobra a loot hunt drop, my lv50 one is great and all but I want a better one... Same goes for the Order. This screenshot shows the shield I had been using from lv61 to 72 compared to a random common drop I found in a Skag pile. Yeahhh. If I can't find an Order, maybe I should make it a Love Thumper or just any epic roid shield. Or, if I can be bothered, a Hide of Terramorphous...

I've been farming Rouge too, but I am trying to get a Lvl 66 Corrosive Baby Maker, or at least shock. The Skullmashers that I found are...um, how should I put it...garbage.

And they always were.

Edit: Uh wow. I just got super lucky. I just went to Zed's Med Vendor and...there is a Bee Shield in the item of the day. Only costs 3 million, and I have 22 million...and the shield looks really promising, a lot better than my current shield, which is a Cracked Sash that is behind 5 levels. Also finally got a Shock Baby Maker, although it's level 64. Good enough for now. Selling all the extras that are really bad. Also I got two Hydras...haven't tried holding both of them yet. I am gonna keep farming him (or her) and see if I can get a Corrosive BM.

Edit #2: The Bee shield made the kill too fast. Because of how fast it was...he (or she) didn't drop either. I hope that this is just a glitch and not something preventing me from getting anymore.

I got a normal and shock lv72 BM and a 71 corrosive. Lately I've also found a lv70 Bee which dropped from a badass skag and a lv72 Hellfire from the blacksmith (a Spycho) in the Bloody Harvest DLC, that was in a multiplayer game but no one noticed it drop so I grabbed it... Then we went to farm Hyperius and I got two Evolutions and a Tattler. It's a shame I have almost no chance of farming an Invincible with Krieg, I'd love to be able to afford a new Hawkeye, my old one combined with a Bee and Zer0's sniping skills was just crazy. I used it most of the way through UVHM until I was sick of being killed as easily as I was killing.

Edit: This week is the last of the loot hunt. The bonus item this week is... Sigh... The Sky Rocket. A weapon that anyone who owns the special edition, special edition upgrade DLC or the GOTY edition will start the game with, and anyone who doesn't fall into one of those three groups can get so easily from anyone who does fall into one of those three groups. What a waste!

Yeah, I think getting an Unkempt Harold or at least a Norfleet would have been more worth it.

But in other news...I didn't even find a Corrosive BM...damn. I guess I will just finish the rest of the main story with my Gunzerker, maybe just get some Seraph Crystals from Pyro Pete (considering how easy he is.), and maybe get a Florentine, Lead Storm, Infection, or maybe a Seraphim. Might also take a few runs at the Doctors Order's LLM glitch.

I bought a Double Penetrating Unkempt Harold just now, so I'm not too worried about that, a Cobra would be nice though. I think I'll probably stop using Krieg for a while, get back into the swing of using guns (and having to actually change my loadouts, I've STILL got a lv58 slag Plasma Caster in my first gun slot with him) and get Gaige, Maya or Salvador to lv72, then maybe I'll go back to Krieg and do Digistruct Peak. All my loot mules are full of lv50-72 gear so I want to get those that are under 61 to 61 first, then I can ditch all that gear. Also I should get Zer0 to lv72 so I can go back through UVHM and pick up max level quest rewards, even though the only one I actually want is the Order, because... Well, why not, I'm still enjoying the game so another 20 hours or so won't hurt, I guess. The worst part about starting another playthrough is that I typically only have characters at either ends of UVHM, so I either continue where I have very little else left to do, or I start all over again with someone else. It would be nice if I had the foresight to get each character to a different stage so I could just dip in and out of certain parts of the story and progress them all slowly, but no.

I thought they patched Doctor's Orders so the loot midgets stopped spawning? If not, I think I might have to try some of that for myself.

I managed to buy "Borderlands 2" earlier today. However, I didn't see any Game of the Year Edition of the game. I DID see this bundle pack featuring "Bioshock Infinite," "Borderlands 1," and "XCOM: Enemy Unknown." I bought Borderlands 2 as I saw it behind the glass at the Wal-Mart I been to. I haven't played it yet as of this post. I did put in the disc and install the latest updates for Borderlands 2. I'll let you know what I think about this game once I start getting into it.

I didn't know 2K published this game. I usually know 2K mostly for their sports games. I love the artistic feel of this game. Almost like reading a comic book (I don't read comics) or watching a cartoon. Borderlands 2 probably will not disappoint me once I get to playing this game for real.

Okay. I started playing "Borderlands 2." I am currently into the village of "The Soaring Dragon." I am playing as the Commando as my main character. I am currently at Level 6 in the Southern Shelf. I just seem to get getting owned by the Marauders, and especially the Badass Marauders. The Psychos can be a bit annoying, but they are tolerable to defeat. I swear I've been killed at least 15-20 times in my play so far. Maybe I am just not as adept with first-person shooters- especially not most modern first-person shooters. Trust me- I'd be the first person to get owned if we were to match up a balance of newbies and veterans in almost any modern first-person shooter.

I like the kind of RPG-like feel in picking up items and in attacking enemies. The game is fun as well as having such amazing art. I also love the Fight For Your Life aspect. I do sometimes wish I could win some of those near-death fights with some kind of desperation counter or anything. Or since I've been so used to the Saints Row series, I almost tend to wish someone would revive me or something. I am slowly beginning to find a few favorites among the current weapons I have. One of them is a pistol highly effective against fleshed enemies- which is perfectly fine since I am mostly battling organic enemies anyways. Oh... I like the introduction video with that cool song playing in the background. Cool stuff!

If you are getting owned, you might want to grind in side-missions for some XP before you actually go and do the main story missions. I would also recommend to go and put some points into Ready so you don't waste time reloading. You might also want to increase your sensitivity or at least change it a bit.

Just keep playing and you will get better. As Novi said, do side missions. Once you meet Hammerlock in Southern Shelf complete "Cleaning Up the 'Berg" mission and then do "Shielded Favors" as well as the mission you get from the echo recorder right outside Liarsberg. If you want to add me I can power level you, but once you get too many levels ahead of the enemies the game becomes boring. I do have a low level Mechromancer that I need to work on. If you want to play co-op add my psn: jtqmopar

Wow, good thing I got today's Logan's Gun when I did, we had a power cut almost immediately afterwards and now my girlfriend is here. It was only a Core, though, I want one of the two variants that do more damage (I think one is Redundant, the other might be Dynamic?) but that ship has sailed I guess. Now I'm just sad I can't watch Breaking Bad tonight.

I am now at Level 10 and found my way into Sanctuary. It was pretty fun to use a vehicle to get around. I also found it VERY useful to have access to Roland's safe. To anyone whom has ever played any traditional first-person shooter or any RPG, you can never have too many weapons. In a game like Borderlands 2, though, you can. You can thankfully have that safe to hold onto your weapons that you really like and don't want to sell.

Most of the weapons I try to hang onto are those that have certain unique qualities to them. Usually any weapons with text not in white (green, for example). I found a shield that dealt corrosive damage to melee enemies. I later bought a shield that deals burn damage. As good as shields are, some of those REDUCE max health. The last thing I want is something to protect me... end up possibly killing me. So I'm staying away from those shields. That is unless any of those later shields will come in handy.

I started another game with Maya (the Siren). For now, though, I'm staying with the Commando.

I knew this would be a fun game, and I haven't been disappointed in the least sense. I still love that "This Ain't No Place for no Hero" song; and I found out The Heavy did that song. I LOVE The Heavy!

You really don't need to save any items. The safe only comes in handy when you use multiple skill tree builds and have drastically different weapon types for them, and/ or if you want to keep a rare item.
The different coloring on items is (in order of rarity) white, green, blue, purple, orange. Then there are light blue legendary items as well as light pink Seraph items. Then, there's Eridian tech weapons that have a hot pink text. There's a lot more to the game than you would think, and that becomes apparent the more times you play through it.

As for the turtle shields (high shield number/ reduces max health) I would stay away from them. Your shield will be taken down a lot in this game, no matter how much capacity it has, and like you said you don't want that to be the reason you die.

You will be going through many, many weapons in this game, and there's [almost] always a better one. The quest rewards are also given again in subsequent playthroughs.

You're right. The real funny thing is that there are even better versions of weapons you already have. You may have a shotgun that is very good as it is, but you end up finding that same shotgun but with better statistics. Maybe the one you have at present has damage at 36, but the same shotgun in look and name that you find may have Damage at 40 and with the possibility of burning enemies. It almost is like (not to bring up another game) enchanting a weapon or a tool in Minecraft- the same weapon but with enhanced qualities. I still hold on to all or most of my weapons because I will not know what I will actually need. Or what I try to do is have at least one of each basic weapon: pistol, shotgun, SMG, rifle, sniper rifle, rocket launcher (which I don't have yet), and the grenades. Some weapons of a certain kind have qualities that I love, and so I hang onto them. So I may hang onto two shotguns because they have effective qualities and don't want to stick to just one shotgun. From the Black Market, I bought one of those things to increase my Backpack supply from 12 items to 15.

One other thing I noticed in "Borderlands 2," there is one weapons chest I "can't afford." You usually open up chests and other containers and grab whatever's inside. But when I went to one chest in Sanctuary around the Fast Travel, I had to have something to try to open it, but I "can't afford" it. Found it interesting. Don't spoil anything! I'll figure that one out.

To be honest you might not figure it out if you don't do any research outside of the game, because you'll never find what you need to open it and no one ever tells you where to get them. It's no big surprise though, most of us who were interested in the game knew what that chest was and what you needed to open it months before the game even came out. Still, if you really don't want to know then I won't spoil it, but you could look back through this thread - way back - and you'll find out.

Also if you think you've found good loot now, just wait until you've done everything. After a certain point you need to upgrade your shield every time you level up in order to stay competitive... Bear that in mind because when that point comes you'll probably get frustrated, just as I did.

Another thing to bear in mind is that elements are extremely important and you should always have one same-level gun of each element (corrosive, fire, shock, slag and explosive) on you at all times; nothing worse than going into an area full of fire-resistant enemies with nothing but fire weapons, you may as well be hitting them with a pillow. And if enemies ever have a little icon next to their level number, they'll be tough to beat. A skull means you have practically no chance, so run away. Keeping enemies slagged is a good idea as it massively boosts the damage you can do.

Oh and never, ever throw away a plasma caster. I'm still using a level 58 one with my level 72 Krieg and I have a character dedicated to holding on to the various plasma casters I've collected through my 17 playthroughs.

Plasma Casters are very good for whatever reason. I find the Yellow Jacket that I got from Jackenstine a while back rather exceptional, quite nearly on par with my Unkempt Harold. However, The quite opposite is true for the Hellfire. As powerful as it sounds, it's really just a Maliwan Fire SMG with a tiny blast radius, AND bugged elemental DoT's. The Yellow Jacket is a better choice (if you have the 3rd DLC.)

As for weapons that you should keep for a while; Unkempt Harold. It is one of the most powerful guns in the game, and if you spec yourself carefully you can make it absurdly powerful. It can be a serious ammo eater at times, but given for outright powerful it is, that doesn't exactly matter.

For shields...I recommend staying away from Turtle and Amp shields, except for The Bee. Amp shields drain your shield when it is at max for bonus weapon damage (the exception being The Bee, which doesn't drain your shield at all.) Like jtqmopar previously stated, you will generally lose your shield a lot of the time. I would suggest any other shield besides those.

Edit: Holy crap guys, the bounty they are giving out is the Grog Nozzle. I would recommend everyone that has the 4th DLC run your ass over and take hold of this magnificent opportunity. I know I will.
