My step dad works in a warehouse. True he now works in one of the offices but he has done his fair share on the floor. Never complained. He has worked in warehouses quite a lot of his life as well apart from when he was a carpet and kitchen fitter.

I'm hoping to grab my first job after all the Christmas temp staff have gone. As soon as early January rolls around I'll be out there throwing my CV's at peoples faces. ;)

Why not try and get one of those temp positions, work hard and try to get permanent?

Well, it goes without saying, but make sure it's good, if there is one thing that really makes me despair of the youth of this country, it's the state of some of the CV's. Bad grades, or lack of relevant experience are what they are, and it's down to employers to judge the degree to which that is a barrier - but there's no excuse for writing it as though you were trying to fit it in to a Tweet!

Not ranting, and HR isn't my department, but I'm usually given the CV's to go over - just so I know what there may be to work with - I'm no expert on CV/Interview technique.... but everyone likes a reasonable standard of English, don't they?

Already tried in the places I wish to apply for and they've all hired up for the Christmas period, left it too late.

Well I had a person with a much greater grasp of the English language help me write it properly and I'd say my grades are fair at least, couldn't write anything for experience though unfortunately.

Well, I can't speak for other employers, and I don't know how old you are, but attitude counts for more than experience in younger people as far as I'm concerned.

I'm 16, I'm not sure what you mean by attitude though, I'm not a cocky twit if that's what you mean.

It's calmed down here already, but it was wild overnight... and there's some damage around my place - several tiles have come off the roof, and one has gone through the rear window of my neighbour's BMW 5-series :ouch:

I've not experienced overnight gusts like this since I shared a hotel room in Mumbai with a work colleague who had eaten nothing but curry for five days.

It's not quite so bad here, but there are plenty of small branches down. I think it's finally dying down.

I'd answer, but all the internet has been blown out of my phone lines.

All I can see is that most of the fallen leaves have been cleared away by the gusts here, if that counts as damage. But it's been a turbulent few hours here this morning.

That tidal surge set to hit the east coast tonight though, I'd watch out for.

Lottery scratchcard game withdrawn after people are unable to work with negative numbers...
"On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn't.

"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.

It's worth pointing out that the article is 6 years old.

Which Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, would think is more time than 8 years.

If people are stupid enough to vote for the BNP, there's people stupid enough to think -6 is smaller than -8.

I fully expect to hear about a spate of BNP voters going outside when it's -20°C wearing nothing but shorts and bikinis this winter, expecting balmy weather.

OK it was quite evil but if the listing said photo... duh, it says PHOTO! alarm bells should be ringing!

I see there is a campaign to get AC/DC to the Christmas number one spot.

Purchase Highway to hell to stop the evil Simon Cowell machine.

Dammit, if only I was in the UK right now. :grumpy:
