Every so often it dawns on me... we have a dragon on our flag .

What does everyone else think of that. ...
Personally, I'm envious. Dragons are very, very cool. I know 'cuz I read Game of Thrones. Not only that, they are found throughout mythologies from all corners of the globe. They symbolize something very deep in the human psyche.

Looks plausible to me. :yuck:

No, that's awful. I did see one particular design I liked but I can't remember where I saw it.

Basically, next to the red of the St. Patrick's saltire just have a thin green stripe. The red, white and green of the band would have full representation of the Welsh flag in it.

Don't know if one of our artsy types could give us a demonstration...

Like this?

There's always this, if you want to drop the blue:

Or change the blue from the Scottish one:

@axletramp I liked the first one, but just to invoke pedantry, I'd like it more if there was a gap between the red and green bands. :P

Green background doesn't work, looks like we're trying to legalise cannabis but the dark blue is rather nice.

That's our flag. I mean, for a quick photoshop job that's really not bad at all.

Submit that to the flag institute or whomever is responsible and with whatever professional tweaks they might apply like width of the diagonal bands or whatever, and with the correct green of the Welsh flag that could be a goer.

Excellent! Certainly will. Just not sure what Northern Ireland will think about it, but then again Wales has been missing for all these years, so fair's fair.

Edit: I'll get Jordan to have one ready for everyone once the Scots get independence. :D

As anachronistic as it is, at least "Ireland" is on the flag. I'm surprised Dublin hasn't pressed us more to change our flag.

Everyone knows Duncan is the best dragon. But he'll go off on the new Scotland flag...

What I normally think of when Wales is brought into a debate on updating the Union Flag isn't Y Ddraig Goch, or any of the colours associated with it. Rather, the Flag of Saint David. Either by changing the field colour to black, adding a gold cross in or around the Saint George's Cross, or a bit of both.

First one would look better if the yellow merged with the cross at the centre, while the second isn't too bad, and the last one just looks a bit Guernsey-ish. Non of them really invoke much of a feeling of Welsh identity though. Not as much as adding a few green stripes here and there would, I think. So far I prefer this design @axletramp posted.

A sign of Welsh recognition, or lucrative oil sponsorship?

That totally needs posting on the BNP's Facebook page.

^

I like the second flag in your post 👍

I think St David's cross is an appropriate addition to the flag, however black or yellow does make it quite sinister!

And I'm not sure the red arrows would appreciate ditching the Blue smoke.

I don't think Scotland have thought all this through properly... I mean, they'll lose the Pound - regarded as the strongest currency in the world, they may not be able to enter the EU as an indipendant country. The North Sea oil reserves are in part owned by BP which would subsequently change their name to English Petroleum (EP) and Scotland wouldn't have control or use of the profits generated from it. Scotland could technically be classed as a country in poverty too when you factor in the average income and average lifespan...

Very bad move for Scotland. - Great move for the rest of the UK
(I'm Scottish too)

Pretty sure the United States Dollar is the world's strongest currency. It is by far the most used currency and has a monopoly in the reserve currency market. The Pound is behind the USD and the Euro and trades 3rd/4th place with the Japanese Yen.

The North Sea oil reserves are in part owned by BP which would subsequently change their name to English Petroleum (EP) and Scotland wouldn't have control or use of the profits generated from it.

1) It isn't called British Petroleum, the company is called BP. The BP doesn't stand for anything these days, much like AT&T, KFC and HSBC. (See: orphaned acronym)

2) Let's assume it is still called British Petroleum. Why would it change its name to English Petroleum? The United Kingdom will still exist if Scotland gains independence.

Scotland could technically be classed as a country in poverty too when you factor in the average income and average lifespan...

That's almost libellous given the amount of revenue Scotland can or could produce based on oil production alone, separation of which would be very messy post independence.

The UK as a whole has poverty in it but that doesn't qualify it as a country in poverty.

I'm Welsh (what of it?) and while I believe in the right to self-determination of peoples, I agree independence would be a bad move for Scotland but disagree that it would be great for the UK. How would Scotland leaving the UK make the UK a better place and benefit the UK? Scotland retaining UK membership would be great for all parties and should seek greater devolution.

Nope. 90% of the North Sea oil fields will be in Scottish waters when using a median line system (most likely system), therefore it's Scottish oil. However, they would only get 40% of the gas, but this is less profitable.

I agree, the black and yellow (that's no gold!) just aren't 'British' colours. It also starts to look like an Africa flag, so I can't see that getting through.

Which of course would be heavily contested by London and possibly, thinking left field, Norway. If Britain is redrawing and renegotiating its waters and oil fields, Norway might seek to encroach.

Racist.

Indeed. Wasn't there an issue about that before?

Edit: Not the racism, Norway and the oil!

I can be sexist on request too. Can you be sexist about colours?
