I just saw a report on this on the ABC, and I think you give them far too much credit - they didn't just try to blame the attack on video games in general, but rather on Crash Bandicoot specifically.
Of all the games?! :banghead: I can't find anything even remotely relevant in Crash Bandicoot which could relate to this event.

I honestly thought they would pick on Rockstar like they always do but Crash Bandicoot?!
And here I was thinking it couldn't get any lower.

I fear you may not be old enough to remember the orangraptang & lilem.

Wumpa fruit.

And since they're not real, orangraptang & lilems would be a good alternative.
Glad I'm not the only one who's a bit anal about calling wumpa fruit by the right name.

Hey wait, why am I in the Britain thread?

So, apparently Subway are banning Ham and Bacon from 200 of their stores and replacing it with Halal meat...

needless to say, this decision seems to have had a massive outrage from the UK in general. Thoughts?

Paula Yates died from a heroine overdose, her daughter Peaches Geldoff dies with heroine in her system and it's suspected it played a role in her death.

So her mum dies as a direct result of using heroine, so she thought it was a good idea to do heroine. Huh?

Something smells fishy. Maybe it was the only game they could find in the killer's home?

I don't have any statistics to hand for that describe the increase in likelihood that one would die from a smoking-related disease if one or more of one's parents also did, but I'd expect that likelihood to be elevated through environmental circumstance.

Equally I suspect the same to be true here, the "set" that Paula Yates and her daughters moved in saw expensive drug use as a valid recreational hobby in the same way that poor people view chips, fighting and drunken shennanigans-in-general.

There's no "good idea" about it, merely social pre-disposition.

The image does not seem to be available online but I always remember a photo/drawing I saw once of two people in parallel frames. The left panel is someone sat at a bar completely wrecked, and the right panel is someone clean cut looking good as gold. Above them was one speech bubble attached to both people;

"My father was an alcoholic, what did you expect would happen to me?"

Replace father with mother and alcoholic with heroin addict. There's always two different paths.

Such a lack of activity! Has Britain ground to a halt? Surely we must know what this is a reference to.

It's their business, they can offer what they want...

Halal stores
30 Apr 2014

Due to the growing popularity of the SUBWAY® chain, with the diverse multicultural population across the UK and Ireland, we put a programme in place in 2007 to ensure that the population demographic is taken into account when new store openings are considered in order that we meet consumer demand in each location.

All our suppliers comply with EU animal welfare legislation as a minimum and we require suppliers of Halal products to adopt the stunning of animals prior to their slaughter. All Halal meats are certified by the appropriate Halal authorities.

All Halal SUBWAY® stores have numerous signs stating that they serve Halal food. These are situated on the menu panels, nutritional information and in the front window of the store.

I don't think it's the serving of halal beef/chicken or whatever, it's the withdrawal of ham and bacon to suit their needs. Don't want ham or bacon? Don't ask for it. That shouldn't stop other people from being able to have it on their butties.

It would be difficult to pander to every corner of society; does serving meat at all mean they're inconsiderate to vegetarians? No. Would serving ham and bacon mean they're inconsiderate to Jews and Muslims? I also believe, no.

They don't have to pander to any group, if they decide it's not what they want to sell, it's their choice, they've changed their menu in some restaurants to better cater for their clientel.

This is true. There would be less of a furore had they simply said that they're withdrawing ham & bacon. Just that. It would raise questions, but still...

In other news, the uber-conservative Catholics who sued the Irish state broadcaster RTE and a drag queen called Panti are now going to lobby Subway to stop selling meat products on Fridays. :P
