I'll be sticking with rear-drive for Season 8 because that's what I'm most comfortable with. Even if I have to lug around 1400+kgs.

Already got replacements lined up for two or three machines, it's just a matter of getting them right. I think I'm basically there but just need to make sure of one or two more things.

Next season I am going rwd, as I am good with them, I mean I know it probably doesn't mean much to you guys but my db9 does spa in 2:03 (faster then most I know)

If I organised group tests for these cars at particular tracks, would people actually turn up? Attendance is always pretty crap for these things to be honest, but it seems the only way to really understand how these cars work.

I can turn up...

I love this guy!

Sure, there's space for this series. BMW is cool, what's your entry name going to be?

Also OK for the one-make, although I will have you make you a reserve at this point so I can't guarantee space there quite as much. It might be alright tomorrow though, I'll have to let you know. What's your car number and entry name going to be for that? .

Can you just put me down as a Privateer for both?
Car #19

i am still outpaced by bmws on the straight -.-

I am still getting outpaced while I am in the draft -.-

I may get out of the corner better and outpace you the first third of a straight but then i'm losing pace the rest. Im not complaining for a change I just want to give the bmw side of the story

well damn, I am in 30.5ish with vw, I really don't know where I am loosing time. I do use pad, do you use wheel? (I am not digging setup just driving style)

I am using a old worn out sixaxis, 2nd hand controller despite having a new ps3 slim (not super slim), The setup for turning in at a good speed is important and I guess some of the advantage goes to having a wheel, but I really don't know how rolo pulls off that kinda phase with a pad,

I think you should work on your setup, cus Skeng is doing very well on there with his BMW, after a corner he pulls away very quickly and i barely reach him before the next corner and your a pretty good driver so I think a good setup is what you need

go for pole and win skeng? ah, well, your forgeting about us Nissan boys.....
it is a good name madbean, thats why uncle bens is our new sponsor lool

Don't forget the old guy driving the Volvo, complete with a flat cap and a tartan rug on the parcel shelf. I'm sure that I'll get in the way somewhere.

Not had time to get online racing yet, I've spent the afternoon with a mid engined rear wheel drive Honda....oh it's a hard life.

Completed Motegi times:

Hyundai 1:29.427
Ford 1:29.477
VW 1:29.570
Renault 1:29.580
Peugeot 1:29.588
Nissan 1:29.638
Volvo 1:29.750
BMW 1:29.900 (just can't drive this thing anymore)

So the BMW is going to be a fair bit quicker than what you've managed then? Some cars suit drivers more than others, the BMW has always been very driver specific.

I guess that's where the wheel gives an advantage over the pad, it's easier to be more progressive with the inputs.

Ian, i have watched a few of your laps and have noticed that you did half of some corners whilst slowing down whereas i did most of my braking before even entering the corner,

I have noticed this everywhere, everyone does it (maybe everyone with a wheel),

so when i was approaching the corner and was behind you, u braked whilst turning in and aiming for the inside on the corner and i lost time and position to keep up cus i was still going in the straight line and braking to slow down before turning in...

is there any way of overcoming this? I have tried to do this myself but I either run wide by understeer if i turn whilst slowing down or loose traction and lock up if i brake whilst braking

The key stig is to use the smallest amount of input possible whether it's brakes, steering or throttle. Generally speaking it's better to avoid turning while braking because your front tires are unable to provide the maximum amount of grip for braking if they are also turning. However, highly skilled drivers such as Ian can walk the tightrope while braking and turning. It's an advanced driving technique called trail braking. You have to reduce the amount of brake input as you begin to turn in otherwise your front tires won't be able to carry the load and you'll understeer straight off the track. This is something I myself have just started to get good at so I'm still learning too. The only real advice I can give is practice, practice, practice. Wheel users typically are quicker than ds3 users because it's easier to control the amount of input with a wheel and pedal than a thumbstick and triggers. But Rolo has proven you can still be very quick with a controller if you practice enough.

To be fair it's a formula I've been doing for the last 18 years, so I'm pretty well versed in things like to very gradually control the throttle with just the thumb. I still use X for accelerate, none of this R3 crap :sly:
Wow! I used the X button until GT5( been playing since the original when I was in 4th grade) then switched to the triggers for throttle and brake. I'll likely never be able to go back now.

The last part of this is very true. I find that I can be quicker with my wheel but it takes more practice. Its easier to catch oversteer with a DS3 though. I wish I had my wheel right now but I will over summer. I feel I will have to relearn how to drive again after a 6 month break.

Yeah most people I know who've made the switch to a wheel have to practice a lot to get the right setup and get use to it. But eventually they are quicker than they were with a controller.

I'd take absolutely forever to get used to a wheel - in fact I'd probably be a total liability on track!

I've been told before that if I bothered to set up my car and use a wheel I'd be an alien.
