Budget Car Challenge

I'm just getting too busy lately, to be entirely honest. Without help I'm considering putting the series on hiatus for the time being until I can get some time alone with my game systems.

I'm not done with this, not by a long shot, but I've been pulled in a bunch of directions lately and it's really irritating.

I think putting the series on hiatus is a good idea, you're already buried under a few seasons' worth of results now. No point adding to it.

Maybe the rest of us can organize something amongst ourselves? Perhaps just leave an open challenge for a week and we can all post our times on here?

Not looking to redesign the car here, but why did we need the hidden results anyways?

As long as everyone has their car selection locked in by a certain date I see no reason not to post our results openly.
If I post a certain time and that motivates someone to try harder to beat that time so be it. Would be more like real life events that way where drivers can see how they are doing compared to the competition. I know I pushed really hard on my week 2 drift score because I thought the RWD cars were all going to be in the 30,000 point range, so was surprised when I pulled 3rd. Maybe things would have been different if during that week I had posted say a 22,000 then a couple people came back with higher scores so I was chasing them again. Would make things more exciting and lively this way I think.

Anyways that's my two cents and I'm all for doing the open post thing here. Then when the designated time is up whoever has the time can do up the scores for that week. All Airrider would need to do is post the challenge for the week and the seasons restrictions, or he could designate someone to do that if he doesn't have time.👍👍

Wait wut? I was just about to get back into this and you're telling me it's being put on hiatus?! :grumpy:

Nah, I kid. I see you're getting quite busy, Airrider. Hope things work out for you soon.

Not least because I want to make a return and see just how much better at picking out stuff and driving I am. :P

Bringing it (times) public will make this more competitive. 👍

Oh right , this thread could be moved here.

Xdesperado's idea sounds good to me 👍

I'm definitely up for doing it like that. It probably would make the thread more lively throughout the week too, with people trying to beat each others times

Alright, everyone. It's time we actually had a season with this new format and where we DO get to crown a winner in one of these seasons by virtue of my email inbox not losing everyone's times. In order to do that I've come up with a bit of a cracker for everyone over what's left of April and all of May.

April and May are the start of spring, when spring really starts feeling...springy. It's also that time of the year when it feels best for drivers to bring out classic, more temperamental, but flashier wheels to show off (or at least they do in my town).

Unfortunately, we're the Budget Car Challenge, so what can we do?

Well, shine up your parachute pants, scrunch those leg warmers and throw on some shoulder pads, because...

THE BUDGET CAR CHALLENGE LOVES THE 80S!

...I, uhh...assume. Anyway, your challenge this time will be to take 45000 CR, then go out and buy a car from the 1980s. Any car will do, so long as it was manufactured on or in between the years of 1980 and 1989 and fits that price. As usual, you can use the change to modify your car, and wheels, paint, washes, oil changes, and overhauls are all free, so they don't come out of your budget.

Pick and prepare your cars and be ready for battle because this ill-advised trip down motoring memory lane begins Monday, April 23.

Feels good to be back...

Looks good.👍👍

Guess this gives me a reason to put GT5 back in the system and start looking for that killer Civic.

I was manufactured in 1989. :D

I've got an idea of what car I want but I'll shop around a bit before deciding proper. :D

Is there a formula for figuring out the price of cars based on mileage?

Reason being I have some low mileage (not 0/0 cars) I'm considering and being able to use cars already in my garage would save me the trouble of cycling the UCD looking for those rather rare 80s cars.

Yes.

New car prize = sell value divided by 0.3

Might have to finally get in on this, any car valued at 45K credits or less, made between 1980 and 1989 and have it ready for next Monday?

The 45k covers the cost of the car and any upgrades you want to add.

I'm not gonna be getting involved this time round. Lost interest in GT5 really.

What it does mean is someone else will have to occupy last place this time

Good news and bad news, bad news: my iPhone took a dump and the replacement won't arrive until next week friends iPad until then.
GOOD NEWS: I'm online! I finally have home wifi (10mb down) and am loving playing online! I'll see you guys on there.
Also I'll be sitting out this round, to busy playing online!

Checking out my possible options currently...(mygranturismo is becoming my best friend:odd:)

Not sure if I go with the high mileage version of my first thought for this season and try to be competitive or go for something really crazy and watch everyone else drive off into the sunset.:lol:

Please stop buying all the 1980's cars, there aren't any appearing in my UCD now. :(
I've not been buying any lately...just got the one high mileage one because it happened to show up in my UCD and I had already been thinking of it.

With over 1800 standards in my main accounts garage (all under 10,000 miles:D) I've got one or two of most of them on hand. It's just finding the one that really catches my attention and screams Me I'm the one!

The UCD is trolling me now. Not one, but two 2J's just showed up. If I didn't already have two 2J's of my own I'd grab them. Still no 80's cars aside from a 300ZX.

Tried out a 300ZX...wasn't bad but couldn't really do anything to it other than stick a set of SS tires on it and the ECU, Racing Air Filter, Catalytic Converter. Wasn't fond enough of its handling without adding at least a height adjustable suspension to go for it.

Would really like to find a copy of the first car I thought of with around 45,000-55,000km which would work with both my budget for upgrades I want and give the performance wanted. Have the one I found in the UCD but it has over 85,000km on it so a couple of the extra engine upgrades I bought for it due to lower price basically just about made up for the power loss due to mileage. Also have a couple 0/0 copies of it but they squeeze the budget a bit to tight.:yuck:

There is one monster , 2-3 competitive ones and a few less competitive.
You know what I'm talking about..
I propably have them all with high mileage.. and going with the monster just does not fell fair.
