Very professional sounding recording! How did you do the drums on this one?

I occasionally add some drum tracks to my songs, but they are either preset loops of some description, or involve finger-drumming on my keyboard. I use Native Instruments Komplete 9 (which is fantastic, by the way, and astonishingly good value for money) and hence I could (if I could be bothered anyway) generate just about any drum sounds I want - but I don't :embarrassed: One piece of software in the (massive) bundle has two lots of drum kits, including 'Abbey Road 60's and 70's' samples which are incredibly realistic. The only thing that isn't realistic is in how I play them/use them, but with a bit more time and effort, it is possible to create incredibly realistic drum tracks with it.

Thanks for the great feedback on my SoundCloud stuff above by the way, much appreciated 👍

You should post your stuff on SoundCloud, as you can see there are a few of us GTPers on there already, but it is also a great place to share your stuff with other folks who are into the same kind of genres as you are interested in 👍

Thank you! :)

I've looked into soundcloud, is it really worth it? For the time being, I'll stick with Youtube :)

I use a "Yamaha DD-65" with 2 "Triggera Kriggs" added to trigger "Toontracks Superior Drummer 2.0" for my drum parts.

I used to play the drum parts on a midi keyboard, but couldn't really get the right feeling in the fills.

If you've got the money & cpu power I highly recommend buying some kind of e-drum kit, it is awesome! :)

👍

I'll look into that option... part of me thinks it would be easier just to start a band

Is SoundCloud worth it? If you mean the price, then I'd say the free option was very good, but I'm happy to pay for the Premium account, because the added features are useful (mainly the 'Spotlight' function that lets you put favourite tracks at the top of the page).

If you mean the time, however, I'd say that was more debatable - as you might expect, you need to invest a fair amount of time checking out other people's work if you expect others to check out your own, and it takes a good long while to find a decent number of genuine followers. I'm finding that most people who 'follow' your page don't ever listen or comment on anything, and so it's important to find people who are a) online alot, b) have similar interests and c) are interested in discovering new music as well as promoting their own. I'm getting more into the latter, but it is time consuming. That said, I'm finding it alot easier on SoundCloud than on other places like Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook etc. SoundCloud has the advantage of being specifically about sharing your music and finding new music, whereas all the other places run the risk of irritating your friends/contacts who are not particularly interested in one's music :P

You make a good case, I'll give Soundcloud a try somewhere down the line :)

It's almost always easier to start a band. I played in numerous bands growing up, but unfortunately people grow up & move away. I'm now 30 & those friends that still live here have family & way too much other stuff to do.

That is why I'm going the solo-project route this time :)

Wrote and recorded two new songs in the last couple of days (first two songs in this playlist) and have written and recorded a total of 6 new songs this month... I've got a further 10 rough drafts that will probably have to wait until next month before they make it onto the interweb in some form or other!

Also sporting some groovy artwork - I found some lovely artwork and emailed the artist to ask if I could maybe use a few of their images on my SoundCloud and Tumblr pages. To my delight, they replied to say that I could. That's now the third time I've asked an artist if I can use their work and they've responded positively :)

Out of curiousity, does anything not done with traditional instruments count? I've never been able to read let alone write traditional music during my short time with playing the Violin, but I've got two mash-ups, two remixes I did for a contest two years ago and a song I've been working on.

Everything counts! Share away! :)

What he said! ^

I'm two days away from my first anniversary at SoundCloud, and my account hit 5000 plays today :dopey:

Thanks to everyone who has taken a listen to any of my stuff!!

i havent record anything, most of my demos are from guitar pro (pretty lame i
know). I have two finished instrumental (one pop jazz, i think and another one is acoustic instrumental). I did convert it to mp3 with the RSE on, anybody now the easiest way to share it here ? i haven't share it to anyone and would like to see what you guys think :)

I've been wanting to post here for a LONG time and finally I have something for you guys. I got together with some like-minded lads in January and we've been writing and rehearsing tunes up to now. Our track Vital Signs can be found on our new page, which has done very well to get some likes over the last day. If you have the time, please do check it out and if you enjoy it, it'd be great if you gave us a like. 👍

Thanks so much for that TM, hugely appreciated. It can be very difficult to get started with this kind of thing so anything like that is absolutely priceless right now. 👍

No worries Alex. 👍 Look forward to hearing more of your band - I find SoundCloud alot of fun but it is also quite time consuming if you want to build an audience/get more plays etc.. A decent Facebook following will make a difference, as a reasonable following on SoundCloud alone is not a guarantee of many plays/much exposure. I see your track has been played 200 times in 1 day... I haven't managed 200 plays in one day with my entire song collection (over 40 songs and counting)!!

Incidentally, I just got my 1,000th follower on SoundCloud :dopey: Ironically, they are called The Cedartowns, and my 'band' is called 'Atlas Cedar'.

Another vocal cover done via camera microphones... That is about to change though, I've bought a mixer which I am going to use for recording and band practice. And now I just need a condenser microphone. My brother has cables, and software. :D This is just a little cover of Helloween's most well known song of the Michael Kiske era (and Michael Kiske is considered as one of the best vocalists of the genre).

Yes, there is a cheap, crappy old bed in the background and all that... But ignore that, look at me because I'm awesome...

Yeah... You can stop telling me I'm wrong now... Even if I am wrong... Just let my ego have a chance to breathe. :P

I just found this thread, i have been making my own music for a while now (over 5 years) i dont make anything special, honestly I take loops and put them together to make songs in Garage Band on my Mac. I also non vocally remix popular songs/video game music (no lyrics). None of it is posted to youtube or anything as of yet, but it all is online

Check it out, let me know what you think.

Also, if you have a request for a song, let me know and I'll see what I can do and dedicate it to you!

I'm not a guitarist and couldn't find a spare one at 3 in the morning when I wrote this.

No need for gentle feedback, I'd love open and frank comments. I think. :D

I what key you have written this song?

It's actually not bad at all. Much better than the mess I am producing (play a bit of guitar) ;) For the guitar I would have picked a bit more distortion and the solo could be a bit higher up the fretboard. Add some nice bends and hold. I think it would fit well for the song. I feel a mix III comming up.

I always feel bad when I have to say this... it's in C :D

And thank you :D :D

^ Uh... wow! Ok, feeling very humble putting my little DIY concoction up under your entire Planets Suite post PeterJB, but here goes: I started a new project based around the idea of breaking some of my own bedroom recording rules. I'm a piano and synth player primarily and wanted to experiment more with a punkier digital sound.
Here's my first ditty as BETA RAY: https://soundcloud.com/beta-ray-1/blurred-lines

PS - I unfortunately had no idea that I was giving it the same title as a certain recent infamous pop song. Oh well.

This is an old album I produced a few years ago.

@Touring Mars just got your suff playing through on SC lovely stuff. Skills :)
Cheers Sprite, thanks for checking it out... sorry for the late reply, been checking out some of your ambient stuff - very nice stuff 👍

Excellent, heartfelt track - beautiful piano and admirable restraint with the guitar part!!

I'm on the verge of two SoundCloud milestones in one day... I'm about 50 plays short of 10,000 plays on my account - so I should hit that tonight or some point tomorrow, esp. if I can get my arse in gear and record a new song tonight.

Secondly, I got my first song with 500 plays just now... bizarrely, it is an instrumental guitar improv that took me about 20 minutes to write and record, one of (if not the) quickest tunes I've ever recorded. Until last week, it had only mustered around 100 plays in 2 months. Somehow, it must have caught the attention of someone who liked it and shared it - and it's had over 400 plays in the last week  I called it 'Furthur (Jerry's Blues)' - Furthur was the name of the bus that Ken Kesey and Merry Pranksters toured around in during the 'Acid Test' years, where they would make Kool Aid laced with LSD and have live music by Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. I'm not sure if the spelling mistake is on purpose or not, since they also had another bus called 'Further'
