Some how I wouldn't be surprised since no other car magazine covered it this early.
 
Theres not much point putting it up then down after pics being leaked like they were as well, everyone knows the car's on it's way and what it should look like.
 
The Camaro information wasn't supposed to be released till Tuesday the 9th at 8:00 PM PST. So I guess R&T messed up.
 
I like it , but doesn´t it resemble the Mustang GT a bit too much? The body lines are almost identical.
 
It's supposed to look like a 69 Camaro which happened to look sorta like the Mustang of the time. I guess it's just carried over into today's market.
 
...With my father owning a '68 Camaro, they did this one just right... Although, the tail lights are supposed to be joined on each side with seperate sets of two lights like so:

I literally have not been this exited for a new product in quite a while, and I am allrady attempting to figure out how much money I can get together in two years assuming they put her into production...

I like the Camaro Concept, but TBH, it didn't hit me as hard as the new Mustang did.
 
I wish they would bring back the classic badging as well... I like the old Camaro script badges they used to put on the sides of the car instead of the gigantic chevrolet bages on the front and rear... But progress is progres...

Looks great, although I'm not so sure about that angle on the nose. This is much better than any recent Camaro, anyway.
 
Is it just me, or does the car look a bit weird? There are too many lines in it so it looks quite a bit overstyled; a far cry from the simple, agressive styling of the classic 60s Camaros.

And a 500hp LS7 for the Z28? From a performance standpoint, why would I be against this? But from a marketing standpoint, it just sounds like yet another case of GM competing with themselves. It will probably be just like a Z06, except with slightly worse everything (except price, of course).

I'll wait for the official details to come from Detroit before I make a true judgement, but it should be interesting to see what other engines Chevrolet will offer with the new Camaro; a new muscle car war would be interesting (albeit oddly timed with high gas prices).

I dont think 500HP would be the target for the Z/28, as that would probably be reserved for a top-line GMPD "COPO" Camaro.

I would assume the engines would be more like:
1) 3.9L OHV V6 (240HP) or 3.6L DOHC V6 (255HP) matted to 6-speed manual or 5-speed auto for base Camaros... I would also guess there would be a sport package similar to the Pony Package Mustangs as well that would come with alloy wheels and a few other extras.
2) 5.3L Vortec 5300 V8 (325HP) matted to either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed auto for a base V8 Camaro or possibly a Z/28. GM did develop a 5.0L 302ci V8 for a Camaro Z/28 show car back in 2001, and that could show up as well... But I think there needs to be a base V8 model similar to the classic lineup, and to keep prices close to the Mustang GT's.
3) 6.0L LS2 V8 (400HP) matted to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto for the SS Camaro. Agressive gearing should keep it in competition with the SVT Shelby Cobra GT500 Mustang assuming that the car would be lighter than the current GTO.
4) 7.0L LS7 or LS7 variant (450-505HP) matted to 6-speed manual ONLY. Do it only to revive the COPO program from the 1967-1969 model years, maybe building 2000 a year.

The 400HP LS2 is a sure bet, and you can bet on a V6 version to fill out the bottom end.
 
A V6 Camaro would certainly provide an interesting alternative to a base Mustang, especially considering the Chevy V6 would have a good amount of power in it.
 
While I'm not a fan of the big fat rear haunches (a tad too retro for me), I think the front end has nailed the balance of retro and modern just right.

That's why I could never say anything nice about the Challenger concept... or give much enthusiasm to the Mustang's schnoz... too much homage, too little identity. This, my friends, is identity. If they don't build it soon after showing it, though, they'll be making a big mistake. The buying public's attention span is notoriously fickle, especially if a car's too late to production (see Thunderbird).

Just to prove that German automakers aren't the only ones who plan products based on what their rivals have done, GM comes out with the Camaro--a retro-styled, two-door coupe with a honking big V-8 that harks back to the glory days of Motown. If that sounds familiar, that's exactly what Ford did with the Mustang. Hot on the heels of the Pony car's success, DaimlerChrysler has dusted off the Challenger and Chevy has produced a new Camaro, a nameplate that was more recently interred. The muscular Camaro concept is pure '69 updated, with the kind of huge wheels and subtle detailing that makes it look up-to-the-minute. The good news for GM is that the concept is far more sophisticated than the live-axle Mustang, with an all-around independent suspension and a six-speed manual transmission allied to a 400-hp small-block V-8. Will they build it? Only if GM can make a business case for the next-generation rear-wheel-drive platform that would underpin this, a GTO, and various Holdens, or adapts Holden architecture for expediency.

I love the center console gauge cluster, that is a very cool idea. It looks like the Camaro is going to be a huge hit at the NAIAS, I really hope they build it. Hell if they build I will buy one.
 
I hope they keep it as close as this in the final design, and don't ruin it with glossy plastics... 👍 at the OLED display in the middle of the dashboard.

Wow, that dash is pretty close to the first gen designs. I love the seperate guages for the speedo and tach behind the wheel, and the little fuel and power guages down below. But they may need to reel in the overall extreme nature to the interior for production, and I'm fine with that...
 
Wow, everything's perfect except the "point" the grille comes to (should be more flat like the older 60's designs) and I don't like the steering wheel. The gauges are freaking PIMP! Toronado said it best, "build them and cost be damned". 👍 GM needs to pull the Camaro rabbit out of the hat on January 1st 2008 for the '09 model year just like they did with the '07 Tahoe already this early in 2006.

Build it exactly like that. Don't change it a bit. The interior's perfect, the exterior gloriously muscular yet paying good homage to the original, and the powerplants are promising.

Now, if only we could see an early-mid 2008 launch.
 
:lol: I actually like the "point". It gives the car some brass, and a very aggressive character.

Like I said, this is the way retro should be done. Obsessive attention to detail, and a stylistic interpretation of the spirit of the original instead of a slavish reproduction. Don't wait for 08. Build it, like... now.
