The biggest news is that an LS7 V8 engine looks to be joining the Camaro family for the 2014 model year. The 7.0-liter LS7 is currently used in the Corvette Z06 with a power rating of 505 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque, which is much less power than the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 used in the Camaro ZL1 putting out 580 hp and 556 lb.-ft. Interestingly, though, there are no new trim level listed on the detailed sheet, suggesting this engine could be destined to find its way into one of the Camaro's existing model, though a few months ago, it was reported that GM filed trademark papers for the Z/28 moniker, a storied designation in Camaro history.

I hope they do, but I don't really see the point in it. Or maybe I do, if it's like the midrange Camaro. Like with Vettes, there is the base, Z06, then the ZR1. So with Camaros, I guess it'd be base, SS, Z/28, then ZL1?

I hope that fantastic engine comes with the loss of a quarter ton. Then they would have something that could really take it to the Mustang.

The only thing I can see is them coming out with a Z/28 to compete with the Boss 302, but Ford is discontinuing the Boss 302 for 2014, so...

Maybe that's why they're finally getting off their asses and doing it, now that they would have no competition. Of course, who knows with GM sometimes. Maybe that started working on it when Ford announced the Boss, and only now is it coming out.

This seems fairly likely. They rolled out a variant at SEMA a few years ago that had a heavy use of lightweight materials and a stripped down interior. Combine a chassis similar to that with the LS7 and you have an instant trackday special that has a little bit more gusto than the current 1LE car... Which is apparently quite the performer to begin with.

The thing is, I'm not sure how they're going to bridge the gap between the 1LE and the ZL1 considering how many parts have boiled down between the two already.

I'm guessing that they'll find a magical way to get the car to lose 100 pounds, take the 1LE package and add the electro-magnetic shocks from the ZL1, and the 505 BHP LS7 and call it a day. Although, the exterior will likely be fairly reserved and a bit more "civilized" than the 1LE or the ZL1. A smart move, I'd say.

They had a "track only" COPO Camaro for '12 which had the LS7, they could be making a version for the street. It's interesting to see if they actually use it and what will be in.

I just hope they don't wait to discuss certain aspects of until the point where Ford can rally back an answer like last time....

I would love it if they put the LS7 in the SS, and put the new V6 from the new CTS in the base model. Yes please!

The LS7 as a "Z/28" makes sense, it seems like a reasonable thing to do. My guess would be that the Z/28 would likely be the 1LE with the LS7, perhaps with some subtle styling tweaks.

Don't expect too much with this updated Camaro. The interior will get redone, some of the fixtures will be modernized, MyLink will be more prominently featured, and if the Impala or SS is any indication, suede will be everywhere. Power might go up on the standard V6, but I don't see the new turbocharged variant showing up until the next-generation model. The LS3 might get a bump in power, or it might be swapped out in favor of the new LT1. If that's the case, the L99 will likely go away quietly as well. We could also see them talk about using the Corvette's 7-speed manual, or this could be the first of the Bowtie cars to get the eight-speed automatic.

We're at least two years or more away until the next all-new Camaro. We know that one is going on the Alpha chassis, it will be smaller, and it will be lighter. This will have to hold us over for now.

They could lose quite a lot of weight by removing the rear seats, if you still want them you'd have to opt for the SS then.

Heh, imagine the 420hp twin turbo Cadillac V6 going into the base Camaro? That'd be nifty. Then the LS7 can go in the SS and the LSA on the ZL1. Cause more horsepower can never hurt!

Yes it can. Ask from Shelby stangs.

Which this is not. An LS7 with the 1LE package would be pretty competent around the corners considering what a normal 1LE or a ZL1 can do.

Also, I'm not liking what appears to be a chrome strip above the grill.

Holy crap, that new Camaro is FUGLY! God, they got rid of everything that made it a good design. Now it's just all bad.

The front especially looks like the Hotwheels car version of the Camaro. It's lost all of its depth.

They basically took the ZL1 design, which I adore, but downgraded it.

The wing and the front splitter seems to have remained from the ZL1 design, but that's mostly it.

I don't mind the front. Looks squintier and a little more aggressive except for that stupid chrome strip it has. Then they ruined the back of it. Now it just looks like the last gen Honda Prelude..... Guess people can now say that the new Corvette doesn't have Camaro taillights...

So they took a page out Porsche's design book, huh? Just keep the same basic shape, change one or two things and call it all new!

They made it look more awkward though, but the Camaro has always been a goofy looking car.

I for one prefer our new Prelude overlords. I think the rearend looks a lot smoother now then the chunky mess it was before. Front is hit or miss, though.
