Cannabis makes you dumber according to studies in New Zealand

So, are there any cannabis users here who care to the list the drawbacks of using?
The fact that it's illegal but where I live you'll only get a small fine if you're in possession of enough for personal use. Also the fact that it's not exactly socially accepted, not that I flaunt about partaking but it's a bit awkward when a friend/family member/colleague, who has some level of respect for you, goes on a rant about recreational drugs. Obviously it's not the best thing to subject your body to but it's not so bad that it has to be illegal.

Because they're afraid soft drug users will start using hard drugs more easely. Or at least that's the most common reason used here.

It's a fair point, I don't know any cannabis users who haven't tried harder drugs, fortunatley most of them are pretty level headed, so it never goes much further than once of twice. I can imagine some weaker or less intelligent people would start to spiral out of control.

That's why I thought it was strange.

It is, however, considerable less harmful than alcohol. And less addictive, and less likely to result in violence or self harm from general stupidity.

Also less harmful than cigarettes, by a large margin. And again, also less addictive.

Smoking cannabis is a victim less crime (MarcoM will say otherwise), and the only reason it isn't legal is because of insane propaganda, at least in the US.

It's not the fault of the drug though. I know plenty of people who drink and smoke pot, but don't move on to anything harder. There's definitely a correlation between marijuana use and use of harder drugs, but that doesn't imply causation. Of course people who use cocaine have used marijuana in the past, but using marijuana doesn't mean you'll use cocaine. A desire to experiment with drugs leads to using both marijuana and cocaine/heroin/etc, but using marijuana doesn't lead to cocaine. It's just that cocaine users would logically use marijuana first as it's an easily obtained drug.

By the same logic, drinking alcohol is a gateway to using marijuana. Most people who use marijuana have either drank alcohol before, or still continue to use it.

Please don't speak in my behalf.

I do not consider the smoking of cannabis a crime. I never ever did say that.

I'm not taking sides in this, but I would like to point out that this study appears flawed - is it the behavioural alterations that come with THC/THB or the chemical and molecular pollution that are to blame...? Each has important implications
