I'd guess you made that one for Walter.
This is it; nothing to do with culture or economy :P

Canoe
also, I didn't know you hated it. Why?

Because some of the reflections don't make any sense... or rather, depict an incorrect form. Let's look at the body panel of that blue car you posted earlier. The highlight that runs along the body has a sharp highlight that fades as we travel up. Are you saying there's a curvy sharp edge here? Doubtful.

Now the one that really drives me nuts is the reflection above that one; where the highlight is underneath the shadow. What the heck? Why is there a shadow there? It should be reflecting the sky, so if anything, there should have been no burn, black or whatever darkening you applied there, and the highlight should be in place of that. I've seen this happen with your older cartoon cars and it bugs me to no end.

Ah. As you said earlier in this cartoon discussion, there are certain elements that are exaggerated, and the color is one of them, at least in my drawings. First of all this doesn't reflect a damn thing because they are in a white environment with absolutely neutral light, like a studio setup, because I'm lazy and it's easier that way, as most of these have a deadline.

Then, I tend to add twin (or more) reflections along the body side panels to add a bit of flash, I'm making a caricature of the color too, because all-flat blue in this looks like a freaking blob, believe me, I tried. I photographed this car in real life for the magazine, so I know exactly how light works over its forms and shapes, the photos I used for reference are the pics I took of the real thing.

I know how light works in metal, I'm a car photographer and more importantly, a magazine car photoshopper, so I know ho light works in real conditions over a car, but this aren't real conditions. I make these pop by adding reflections where I absolutely know there shouldn't be any. Come on, it’s a freaking cartoon.

Also, Canoe 👍

I like that blue Maverick that you made Cano. Seriously, i can't do that.

Also likeing the red Firebird cartoon. It is a different style, but both are extremelly good, if i may.

It's here!!

That picture is all you need, if you study it carefully. Yes, a lot of work, but the results are worth it. That drawing just bagged me 250 bucks and other two commisions for the same guy.

Mind to share some of that 250 bucks that you got there :sly: ?

haha, Donbenni. That guy was a member of GTPlanet about ten years ago, back when we did the weekly photoshop competitions. He started doing vectoring back in those days, I remember that well. You can really tell he's got his stuff together. Ah, man, good times.

MSTER, Finished BMW pic looks great 👍, for me, easily the best of your work so-far.

Cano, weirdo Trans-Am/Firebird with firey bird driving sounds cool, do you mean an actual phoenix,or a firey chick? :D

AOS, cheers for posting that vector tutorial stuff, may have a go of that next week sometime.

Final rough draft line work, as can be seen iv'e made a few tweaks here and there, iv'e also corrected that headlight.

The headlamp is still off. now you made it too straight. If you see the left headlamp it is a bit inclined, following the angle of the grille. The one you corrected is now dead-straight.

Still, I really like it. I also like the wheels, they look like Radirs or American Racing 200S's, and the turned wheel certainly gives it more life. Take out the character lines in the shaker, and you're set.

EDIT: I think if I had drawn it, I would have exagerated the front spoiler a lot more. at least as much as the rear fender extension.

Cheers for the advice Cano 👍, though i admit, i can't quite see it the way you're seeing it, that doesn't mean that i think you're wrong... sometimes it's just hard for me, to see what others see as being obvious. I have noticed something else that needs adjusting concerning the upper fender line, but i'll sort that out when i come to it.
I hear you on the shaker bit as well, will get rid of them (most of my lines are just place-holders for when it comes to colour and guides for definition).

Also hear you with regards to the front bib, was considering dropping the outer edges (just on the curve) all the way to the ground, but if i do that.. it kind of dictates a flatter angle of the entire thing, which i'm not sure would sit right with the pointyness of the grill above it, i may still give it a go though to see for sure... either that, or reign in that rear spoiler

I'd point it if I could, but I'm at work now. I'll do it when I get home if you haven't found it by then.

Ah, that's just something I would have done, it's perfectly fine as it is right now, I just like car-toons to be more grotesque, heh.

BTW, currently shading/shining my Trans Am in pencil. It had been AGES since I last drew something completely in pencil. I had forgotten how much control of the gradations you have with it.

Thank you! I also tried drawing a Mazda 787B today to celebrate the recent Le Mans 24h event but it looks quite cartoonish.

Cano, I still haven't sussed it out yet.... think i need to take a break from doing it, and come back to it with a fresh head.

Looking forward to seeing the (pure skill) hand drawn Trans-Am Cano, i'm gonna have to get back into hand drawing/marker work at some point, i still do the odd scribble now and again but nothing worth showing really.

MSTER, Look forward to seeing the Mazda, i too did a little sketch of an LM car the other day, it's a fantasy Porsche LMP, it's quite rushed but i may try to fix it up and neaten it at some point.

I know that this 787B is going to be well out of proportion, but here is what I have so far:

Does it look like the right headlight is bending around the car like it does in real life?

It's taking longer than I thought because I'm making it black, so it takes a lot of work to fill in all that. It's hella dirty already. Also, I love the Porsche with Martini colors. Do it!

To me it does, great work on that 👍, though i think the other headlight needs re-shaping a bit, remember take your time, it should easily come out as nice as the BMW once finished.

Cano, i don't think iv'e ever attempted a black car before.. have thought about it, then decided that it would be too much for me to handle, will have to try it some time though.

Glad you like the Martini Porsche, have done another rough pic of it, but i feel it doesn't have the same impact of that front on view pic. When it came to a different view, i realised the design maybe wouldn't work.. so i kind of re-worked it, and now it just doesn't look as original... looks more like the Bentley LMP or something else from that era, the car is mean't to have ground effects (looked at pics of ground effect F1 cars of the 70's etc), i may try and make the pontoons a little lower, the car probably isn't a very aerodynamic design though... well not for Le Mans anyway.

Venom, Cool looking sedan 👍, checked out your DeviantArt page as well, loads of cool designs you've done that i forgot about.
Are you planning on modeling the new sedan?, should look awesome in 3D.

PS,
BTW, Cheers DarkAvenger, glad you like the cartoon firebird, will hopefully finish it off soon.

I'm almost dooooooone! I finally finished the color -er, yes, pencil- and I'm only adding detail to the wheels and some eraser details and I'm game. Should post it this afternoon. Came out better than I expected, pretty sinister.

Looks kind of good, now you just have to make the front and rear blueprint... then make it 3D. Lol
Hehe, I might make front and rear views. But yeah, I do want to model it in 3d soon.

Thanks! Hopefully I actually try to model the design soon. Seems quite a few people want to see the design in 3d :)
Also that is a neat looking Porsche you got there. 👍

This looks like a closed cockpit go kart to me. SICK IDEA! 600 cc Import Sport Bike engines maybe even a 1400cc class Busa and ZX14 engines.

I dig the wheels. Lamps little off, as well as the right wheel arch. I should put more time into my next drawing.

Cano
Here we go (:

It had been ages since I last drew something as complex with pencil. I really enjoyed it.

Sick!!!! Please go to CarToons and make them hire you. Then make more of the best mag ever. ;)

You could get your team from here lol.

Awesome drawing! Speaking of drawings I'm currently drawing a Subaru Impreza and it looks incredibly lifelike.
