I know it it sounds crazy, my dad had to drive it about 30 miles to fort wayne for 3 to 4 weeks(where he works) when we had his 2001 lincoln ls on jacks because his left rear brake locked up, but going 60 in top gear(4th) is just above idle in the truck haha we were going around town foot off the gas in 4th gear going a steady 40 lol no gas at all pure idle.

I suppose that if you're running at idling speeds, you could realistically get good gas mileage, but still have that low-end grunt for mild acceleration.

Our 68 corvette, gets about 30 mpg on the high way but just like the truck my dad has the transmission tuned for max speed at minimum rpm as in at idle what is its top speed? Say 37 in 5th gear on out vette, so his goal is to get it to 47 (or so) so you keep the rpm as low as possible going 65(thats the speed of the highway)

I didn't quite understand all of that, but I think I get the gist of what you're saying. Also, is your Corvette an automatic? The Corvette I drove was an automatic, and it was more than willing to stay in top gear at 40 mph, barely running above 800 RPMs.

No its a manual but had a custom built (my dad and i built it) 427 big block

Yeah that's really the only part of it i DON'T like that and the fact it doesnt have safety glass, just sheet glass I believe, also the truck has HORRIBLE gas mileage, 14mpg street and 25mpg on the highway

14mpg is outstanding, most average about 11-12. I've got a mid-80s F250, built like a tank too but gets about 3-6mpg on average. Consider yourself lucky. Those old trucks were built to last and work, not like this new trash on the road today.

There is NO WAY IN HELL you're getting 30mpg with a built 427 BBC. I call mega bull. My '09 Focus gets 32mpg on average.

If you knew how long we worked to get that thing efficient, and fast you would believe it, at least 200 hours of actual work(assembly, testing, diagnosing, disassembly, and repeat) the amount of time on the chrono was ridiculous, and that was just for the engine, even more for the transmission, we ordered 5 or 6 transmissions and still have 5 just laying around, and the focus is a much shorter car, which means less area to "smooth" the air, theres a larger air cavity behind the focus than the vette

Next time you fill her for gas post a pic of your math on paper with your total miles and trip miles. Theres no way a tank with a big block is going to run even remotely close to a light eco friendly 4 pot. AT BEST you should be getting 12-14...Your talking bull. I'd like to see pics of this car, with proof that you own it, the engine, pics of all your transmissions and a complete list of mods done to the car including tire choice, sizes and rims.

Until you can, mind telling us how long it took you to think up your story?

This ought to go in the Ludicrous Claims thread. Although, I'm not sure how to make him prove it...

He has to get a piece of paper with his username and GTP written on it and include it in the picure.

That doesnt prove that he gets 30 MPG...

Thats true, but best we can do is ask for his total miles, tank sizes and trip distance ( pics, not sure that 'vette records trip distance but there should be a push knob to reset it) and we can do the math.

If i could add attachments in this damn app i would, every time i try to add one of the 20 pictures i have of it it keeps saying that its "an invalid file" dont understand how JPEG is an invalid file

And we no longer fill her up for gas, my dad had to sell it for money to pay the bills in 2008, got ****ed with the money we got for it... i think i remember it sold for 15,thousand... my dad said it was worth 3 times that, (all of these stats i have heard from my dad AFTER we sold the vette)sorry i cant get total miles but i can give you the URL

TIRE CHOICE: 17" rally
No mods done as close to stock as we could get it, just a new engine with new cables

Pics from day 1 that we got it no engine and all to nice and running

Mod list?

Ok cool, but I still see no proof of ownership. I believe you owned it but I don't see 6 transmissions laying around. Judging by your pics, YOU DID NOT GET 30 MPG AND NEVER WILL. We do this stuff everday so stop trying to BS everybody.

Nice Trans Am btw

I edited my post. I'm talking engine mods as well. Having helped build up a few Fords I know a thing or two.

The transmissions were cannibalized and we used the gears to modify the transmission (oh theres one mode) if i remember right we threw the transmission(s) in the69 pickup with with the rest of scrap metal from our burn pile to take to the junk yard... i dont remember for sure as we were rebuilding it in 2004 (i think, it was sometime between 04 and 06

And im not TRYING to bs anyone like i said my dad drove it and after we sold it i asked him i think a couple months ago and he said it got MPG as good if not better than his 2001 ls on the highway which is heavier by about half a ton or soo, but both had. V8, albeit my dads ls has a jag v8 (at the time ford owned jaguar so his ls and the same era jaguars share a lot of parts

Ergh! Haha I'm not trying to impress anyone, I'm trying to get the story straight just as much as you guys are, I don't know much about our old 'vette, I was 8 when we fixed it up, had i been 14 like I am now I would know much more about it but I wasn't, so I rely on my dad for most of the information of the corvette

I know what Ford owned. Good mileage for that 'Vette is 12-14mpg. Not 30 like you made up.

...And just like my truck has 30,000hp. PLEASE

Still though, don't try to make up numbers. We know what its capable of and doing so makes you look like an idiot.

Hey I did not make it up those word are EXACTLY as my dad said them, if anyone is making it up it would be my dad and he wouldn't intentionally **** up the stats either he didn't exactly remember or he didn't hear what i asked

Then maybe your dad needs a reality check. Hundreds of tests have proved your theory wrong for 50 years. Any respectable tech or mechanic/builder will tell you this.

Maybe so, dont believe me google "cggorman corvette forums" theres plenty of evidence about the corvette on the corvette forums

Why should I have to search for evidence when you could show me? Either way, you didnt get 30mpg

Ok i got it sorted out, it DIDN'T get 30 mpg, i accept that I ****ed that up, however it did get (quoted from email) "Around 20-25 if I recall. Mostly due to the overdrive 5 speed."
