GTS Nordschleife hot lap STOCK McLaren P1 GTR '16 but with sports hard tyres: 06.49.195

Man, what a beast! It really feels like driving on ice. The tiniest mistake and you're off! Obviously its speed and cornering is unrivaled. Absolute madness this car! What really pisses me off is my Thrustmaster T300RS? It always "gives" up after around 1 hour. It gets really loose, loud and you get less and less feel while using it. In such a car this is devastating, because it gets not only extremely frustrating, but basically impossible to drive on the limit. The car spun basically instantly every time I entered the small Karussel and when I exited the big one. It's just rediculous! Why did a pay 330 Euro for it? I don't know. Already did send it for repair once. What an overpriced, unreliable and underengineered piece of hot garbage! I could have been faster a few seconds, oh well. Gonna buy the T-GT in the next few weeks and sell this one I guess. Anyone interested? (it works really well, but isn't REALLY good for on the limit hot lapping)

Driven stock on hard sport tyres without any driving aids, except ABS. First lap in third person view, second one in cockpit view and third one in cinematic replay view. All driven laps are the same lap.

Comparison with Nordschleife rivals:

Comparison with Tsukuba rivals:

Verdict: You can hardly call it a sleeper, now can you? I mean it does what it is supposed to do. It's obviously phenomenal nonetheless.

Do you have the fan running full time? I found that fixed that issue for mine. Hold mode and option button until the light flashes. Should run full time then, and give you 2-3 hours before melt down.
Worked for me anyways.
Why not the new fanatec if upgrading?

Thx mate! :) I already got the T-GT, which is a lot better, than the T300. AND I actually DID order the Fanated DD Pro ;)

Hmm... the P1 sounds amazing, but if a Honda S660 is a close rival to it around Tsukuba, I think I'll save my money and get the Kei car.
Didn't quite get your joke?

I think you embedded the wrong Tsukuba comparison video. It shows the Beat vs S660 video, not the P1.
I'm an idiot, it is not released yet, thus it's not shown.

It's a good thing we got the car reveal early this week, because I figure I could really use some practice with the car, and so I took it out for a quick spin.

I meant that last part at its most literal sense—I very quickly spun the car.

The P1 GTR is diabolical to drive. You know how we tend to use TC1 immediately after a standing start as a form of launch control, then immediately turn it off once we're out of first gear? Yeah well, I wound up keeping TC2 for the entire lap, because the P1 will keep wheelspinning even in third. Mind you, this is a game in which driving in GT500 and LMP1 cars without traction control is not only easy, but faster!

The DRS system it has is really smart, because it automatically activates when the car has less than a tiny amount of steering lock applied. Apparently it can be activated manually by holding the overtake button? I don't really know, because I don't fancy the thought of trying to hold a button on a steering wheel when said wheel is being turned in a car with over 900 horses going to the rear, and besides, on most tracks, the car is too damn fast to need your manual DRS input anyway.

The real kicker is how this car corners. I can't wrap my head around it. Even with all its active and non road legal aero, it behaves as though a paper plane in a crosswind under braking—if you apply even a tiny amount of steering angle while fully on the brakes, the car just immediately goes tits sideways, pointing you perpendicular to the road. If you ease off the brakes trying to trail brake into a corner, the car just refuses to turn. Built from the ground up as a be all end all hypercar, being so track focused as to forsake its own road legality, having racing tyres, active aero, and 150% of the power of a modern GT3 car, it feels like it doesn't take high speed turns as well as a GT3 machine with inactive aero slapped onto a fattened sedan, requiring HARD (and very careful!) braking into Eau Rouge.

Like I said, I don't get it. Maybe there ought to be a lot more aids and computers under the bonnet that hasn't been simulated. But I simply can't drive this thing without walls and gravel traps becoming involved. It's a hell of a pretty car, but it just isn't for me. I might skip this week's meet entirely.

Finally getting off work this morning…. Been there since last Wednesday. Headed up to the mountains to celebrate Christmas at my parents, but decided to take a quick detour enroute to snap a couple pics in hopes of buying some leeway from you guys being that I’m 3 reviews behind and my attendance has been almost nonexistent (yeah, yeah, yeah new guy….whatever). These pics are about 5 minutes old, hot from my phone to the cloud and into whatever device of your choosing!!!

You're making us sound like a cult, stop it

The whole point of this is casual fun. There's no need to feel obligated to race or review. Most of us don't write at all. I've missed a few cars here and there, be it races or review. Just do what you can when you can, if you want. I'm happy enough that you enjoy what's on the table :)

Gosh, I'm so jealous of you! Willow Springs is one of my favourite places to shoot in GTS. Scenery is breathtaking and the atmosphere is unreal even in the game. Horse Thief Mile and Streets are among the very few tracks in the game where low powered cars are really in their element.

My preliminary report on the Mclaren is rife with mixed feelings. I think this is what would happen if you could bump the power of a gr.3 car to group 1 levels… but with no upgrades whatsoever to the Aero or brakes. I missed the meet so I went to my personal test track (Fuji) for about 45 minutes. As soon as I figured out the braking points (which mainly consisted of easing on the brakes as soon as I exited the previous corner) it wasn’t too bad. But the power understeer was really bad with no real solution under than extreme short shifting... And that still wouldn’t really help all that much. Keeping the stock racing hards on, I decided to start doing some minor tuning. A huge help was to take a bunch of power out of it. I lowered it as low as I could. Next, I played with the aero it did have, and I put max downforce on the front. That seemed to help a lot. As far as the lift-off oversteer, it was only a factor if I dropped below 3rd gear... which there's really no reason to, except in the tightest of corners.

Once I got some of these things sorted, the car was usable. It was like a group 2.5 car, but not in a good way. Waaaaay tooo poooowerful for its own good. The lack of brakes is its biggest Achilles heel, and I'm not sure if that's easily rectifiable without going to softer compound tires

Okay guys and gals, I am going to start writing the end of year awards and would love a few more nominations, pick a categorie, make one up, whatever, anything will help, so far I only have Vic and myself, would love more input.
Happy holidays and happy new year to all.

Most beautiful car.
Ugliest car.
Best handling.
Worst handling.

Someone fancy doing a list of all this year used cars?

Gonna ask an off-topic question here

Just got my PS5. Gonna set it up tomorrow. Anything I need to do to optimize it for Gran Turismo? I’m coming from a bone stock base model PS4. I have no clue what HDR is or any of that crap. Don’t have a 4K tv either but I’m pretty sure it’s 120hz…. Whatever that means

Lmao, you'll probably want to data transfer from the ps4 once you are set up, pretty much walks you through it when you power it up for the first time. If you run a surround amp for sure do the 3d sound set up, it's mega badass. Other than that the menus take a minute or two to get used to, but it's still a playatation so I'm sure you will have no problems.

If it is the car of the year, I'm still writing, but could give away that one if needed. Still only 2 nominations for that, and I'm one of them, but I agree with the other vote. Just let me know

Car of the year
Beater of the year
Livery designer
Best looking
Worst looking
Cleanest driver (sportsman)
Driver of the year
Most improved driver
And anything else you think might add to it, I don't have a lost of all the cars we did, just need to remember the important ones really.

This is good because the F40 was going to win best looking car before anybody sent me any votes...
I was not going to listen to any wrong(not F40) answers for that one. Lol
