Cars not to buy

GTPSP seems to have a large number of cars that are useless to play in game and seem to only be there for collector's purposes and hence should be bought later in the game IMHO.

Cars not to buy that I have bought:
Mazda Furai Concept
Toyota 7 Race Car
Ford GT '05

What other cars have you bought that are worthless to race? Maybe we can make a list to check against for everyone.

Really there are only like 2 cars that aren't useless(Veyron and F2007).

Also,am I the only one that likes the Furai?

Sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with your choices there. The Furai is a new car so it's a must for me and anyway it's pretty fun racing against the CLK-GTR's in the later levels. I'm not sure what cars the Toyota 7 is matched with but it's such a unique car that it's worth a buy and the Ford GT to be honest I don't really like powerful cars with weak brakes.

My choices would be all the different types of MX5s/Miatas, nearly all the Skylines, nearly all the Civics, all the Daihatsu's apart from the Midgets, all the Acura's that are actually Honda's, you can probably do with the one Fiat 500, most of the NSX's actually this is going to take all night basically all the doubles which are nearly always the Japanese ones including the JGTC's.

The Furai handles and sounds pretty sweet, so I have enjoyed it. All of the cars that are additions from GT4 seem worthwhile to me, especially now that us NA'ers have access to an original Mini again. I noticed I'm a sucker for dark reds though; the R8 LMS, Citroen, and Furai are all the same hue. Felt they looked better that way.

3 Tiburons, the entire Vauxhall line copied over as Opels, and stuff like that, are cars I don't really want to buy. I do plan on owning everything in time for GT5 though, and keeping two separate profiles; one for OLR/Photomode, and one to progress normally.

All cars are fine by me. I've tested a lot of the 500+ hp cars and I've found many of them to handle fine. The Furai handles fine by me, actually, it's one of my fave cars....

I think you missed the point, it's a drivability thing.
The Furai is very drivable, especially with a bit of tuning. Max the downforce, raise it a little bit (this is necessary on some tracks, especially the Nurb), add a bit of camber and a bit of negative front toe and it's good. :) It will still take off when going over a large curb or bump, so be cautious with those.

You mean the other way around? ;)

Your first post should have been clearer then because it doesn't mention a thing about drivability. I think all the doubles are "worthless to race" because your just wasting your time driving the same car.

I got very disappointed with the Suzuki Escudo... i remember from GT1/GT2 that for me it was the best car to race but now compared to the "newer" cars is just... worthless. Maybe the lack of a more deep tuning combined with my old age just didn't see how to drive that beast of a car anymore :P

One man's meat, is another man's poison.

Any list of cars "not to buy" will be a personal one unique to you and, as such, it would be pointless creating one.

Buy them all! You have enough space in the garage and acquiring credits is not too difficult.

That's exactly my plan, but (and it is a big but) i just don't have enough time... and right now im grinding my way to get a F2007... 5.3Mil and counting :) and then the "fun" can begin. Dont take me wrong, i want all cars i can, but the feeling of "disappointment" when you get a car you wanted so badly just to see that it sucks balls is big enough to start a thread like this. :)

I read a bunch of posts about how the Furai really sucked. Then I bought one and did some light tuning. Max downforce, a bit of the negative toe up front to reduce over steer, TCS of 1 (cuz it's light w/ lots of hp) and it drives great! You just have to be careful not to trail brake too much other wise it becomes tail happy.

One car I was supremely surprised at its poor performance is the twin turbo Supra from the late 90's. You use it in one of the complex corner challenges, and MAN does that thing perform poorly. It's over steer galore, not as much pick up as I expected and it's tough to keep on the tarmac. That's really one of the only cars I'd say was almost un-drivable. All the other cars in the game require some tuning. And race cars almost always have some level of TCS due to high hp. That's just a fact of life when you run hp above 500/600...

R92CP and the Minolta 88CV...

Try turning a corner, I dare you.

Try using a higher gear than you would first expect like 3rd gear) and always stay out of 2nd. Also try giving it around 50% throttle at most until the tires are straight, then you should be fine. It also helps to get the car pointed inward as fast as possible to create a straight exit line, that will help you get on the gas sooner and prevent (some?) wheel spin. Or atleast that is how you drive those cars in GT4.

I think the most useless cars are the concept cars which the game has its production version. Same performance but way more expensive.

I am kinda dissapointed by the top speed, but it does have a nice acceleration (when its finally on revs..)

One car I regret to buy is the F150. I have it as a 1:24 model, so thought it would be nice to have it in the game, but it is slow and doesnt brake well :P

I find the Ford GT to be drivable. I can never really master the Mazda Furai. I probably have to do some tuning to make it a bit better. I'd say the muscle cars are probably more collectors, I bought the Plymouth 'Cuda 440 Six Pack '71, since I wanted to have a muscle car in my collection...and it was destroyed in the New York city course by a Opera Performance 350Z and C4 Corvette ZR-1. >_< Suzuki Escudo is not like it was in Gran Turismo 2... I missed the GT2 version of the Escudo. You could bounce off the wall at 190MPH and still leave the competition in the dust.

Yes, I recall the days of the Escudo domination too. Once you had that car, you could smoke the rest of GT2 easily. Realistically tho, I don't think it was ever that great a car and the input parameters for GT2 at the time made it too king. I still enjoy that car however and was one of the first suzuki's I bought in GT PSP.

I really don't understand this thread. Just because one person can't drive certain cars doesn't make them horrible cars. This game is about the driver and how well you can set up your car. You can see the difference in all the members who are competing in the time attack challenge.

^ Only half-true really. This game is so much less about how well the driver can set up their car than any other GT. I just look at this game roughly how it's been described by PD; a casual one. I sometimes want to play GT4 but this way I can do it when I'm out. And when GT5 does come out, I'll be using two profiles, so I can at least take advantage of all this credit farming for OLR and photomode purposes.

You mean the other way around? ;)

I can't help it, I'm so used to reading CAR and Evo!

Honestly, I'm all for personal tastes... But the whole point to the GT series is to really test you as a driver, so if a car is difficult to drive, try till you get it, that IS the whole point of "Simulation" isn't it?

I wasn't really planning to make a definitive list, maybe just a spreadsheet or something with a number of down votes and up votes.

Also, people are really quick to jump here; unless explicitly stated otherwise you should assume that I am speaking to you politely in the manner of the friendly conversation one would expect at a down town coffee shop. I'm definitely not handing down edicts from on high and saying your car is completely without merit. I'm saying that with my less than Stig-like abilities and the PSP's sub-optimal controls I'm lucky to have these cars going in the right direction, let alone be in a respectable position.

For example despite the fact I think the Toyota 7 is worthless around a track it sounds glorious and the view from the rear is possibly the best on any car. Those turbos just hang out there in such a beautiful and completely indescribably aggressive way. It's raw, naked power. (Well, come on... It IS beautiful!) The car just seems to not be very friendly to my suggestions that it should stop getting owned by the Escudo that is trying to eat it.

What I kind of envisioned was a list with cars voted up and down as to whether or not they can be coaxed around a track with ease, or heart pounding insanity with liberal dollops of prayer and swearing. (Think like Digg)

FWIW though I will get every single car on this game sooner or later.
