It's about as rare as they come. Got a little hot just riding on the bare engine, so i'm in the process of mounting a seat, but it's alot harder than it looks.

The car doesn't look bad, no Corolla's have ever looked bad. $1700 is pretty cheap though. It's the equivalent of just under £1200 here.

I was curious what you were doing to fight off oil starvation when you run it in the current setup. Its a short motor, but 7k rpm has to be throwing a couple of g's. :scared:

;)

That's an interesting drivetrain layout that the new motor has. I've never seen an engine that powers a wheel directly below it.
I almost corrected you there, Brad, until I realized. That's how unfunny that joke was.

I guess everything is unfunny when you have to look at yourself in the mirror everyday Keef.

What am i talking about? Its 6am. Go away.

Atleast it eliminates power loss through the driveline. :D

Nice project you've got going along Casey and awesome prices compared to what market value is. 👍 I've always had a soft spot for Hachi's, one guy I know had a 20 valve AE86 in Black, and it was nice, loud and decently quick. ;)

Can you post the listing for that AE86 with the black top. Feels like I'd know the owner.

Story on that. Guy I knew with an 86 in the same colors ran a 4A-GZE, then mad it turbo, than got tired of that and switched to a 20Valve setup.

Paint the engine bay while its all out. Do it. You'll thank yourself later. And can I say I am jealous of how much easier getting stuff out of that is.

Random pic from my swap days.

Yeah, almost certain I knew the owner between 2003 and when it sold again. Though first engine swap sounds funny since I know he had a 4A-GZE in there, and I know he lived in Moscow, ID for a while, thus the Idaho plates.

I drag raced him with my 20V AW11, and the LSD gave him a nice advantage. This was back when it was still supercharged. I was pulling on him in 3rd though, which gives you an idea on the top end of the Silvertop. Never saw it much after that night, but I've heard stories on and off. Guy had some crazy name to, like Giro or something.

On the swap for the AW11, the engine is dropped out of the, though we did put it through the top later on but without the transmission. Which made mating everything up a bit of a chore.

Okay...you have a 4A-GE (That you're removing,)....and a FWD Manual Tranny...

I can has? :3

Sorry but I didn't get the tranny with the engine. Even If I did, you would have possibly had to do some converting for the shift linkage to work. And as far as the old 4age, i'd like to keep a spare lying around and possibly rebuild it, that is if my brother doesn't snatch it up.

What year corolla you got, did you say you have an ae82 somewhere? FX16?

+1. The current wheels look great on it anyway.

That a nice work congratulations!

:D:tup:

Thanks

Yea the 4agze has that low end torque found in no other 4a, and thats prolly why he would be ahead from that start, including the lsd. But once you get to about 60 thats when that vvt and 20 valve really kick in and you start catching up. I've read similar comparisons.

I think i'm pretty glad I went with the ae86 instead of my aw11, just everything in general seems like it would be alot easier to do. What gave you the idea to drop the engine in from the top? BTW did you ever check out that 2zz mr2? I got a look at it when I was picking up the engine, awesome to say the least. He says 20v has nothing on that 2zz. Said he would take me for a spin sometime if he doesn't sell it soon.

Good god, that grey-blue is one ugly color. Please don't do that to your car.

Do you know who painted your car white? That thing is overspray city. Also, don't forget new wiper arms. Those things look crusty.

Some idiot from nebraska.

Which grey-blue are you talking about, the nice two tone one or the one my brother just bought? Kinda confused.

He has an old AE82 Chevy Nova with, I think, the 4A-FE in it.

Honestly, the ZZ motors kind of kill the A series. The basic 1ZZ in my MR-S is quite a bit more usable than the 4A-GEs I've dealt with, and much better for autocross. Modern engine design makes things a lot better is what I've concluded.

Too bad they don't make a Nicorette for Toyotas, Cody.

Anyway, good on ya for being brave enough to swap it. I could find an engine and do this and that, and I've actually helped to a couple before, but I just can't be bothered on my car. Not unless some killer deal pops up.

The grey/blue two tone is what. Your brother's new silver one looks good. My favorite color is still two-tone with black on the bottom. The top can be anything really.

The blue/gray two tone looks great in person. Like I said, I've seen that car in person before and it was always an eye catcher.

Things I'm jealous of:

1) Having a car to play with
2) Having the skills to make swaps and such
3) Having the spare time to do it

...Now I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can strip the Camaro and pull the engine out. Srsly...

C'mon. It's not like no one builds parts for your Celica. :)

Camry power makes it no fun, and a bit more difficult to come across. Maybe after I cross the 100K mark and the car starts to depreciate a bit more, I may consider strapping stuff on.
