Good luck on the repairs. If you feel like it, take a pen and poke out the warning lights. That way, you can never be bothered by them.

Just got a call, and it's not cheap, but pretty reasonable considering.

First up, Basic 10,000km service was $210, only $20 more than my usual mechanic. The problem with the airbags, pointed to a wiring problem in the drivers side seat, he said that it's pretty common on a car coming up to 10 years old, and they rewire the seat electrics, and too be safe they do it on both seats. So that's $250 for two seats (Hopefully to keep me going another 10 years). Also getting new wiper blades for $25, and the heater knob fixed for $33.

They did find one problem which I did not know about, where the knob that changes the direction of the air flow (Face, Face/Foot, Foot, De-mist) actually didn't work (I swore it did). And to fix that they need to replace the entire AC box with is a $1000 job. Since it's coming into summer, I said just leave it on face and I'll think about it in the winter.

So all up, on my memory calculation, this afternoon I'll be footing a not so bad, $518 repair bill.

Though I may have just cost myself more, as my loan car was a 1996 Saab 9000CS, and while it was so slow. It had a really cool feel about it, and I'm again thinking about getting an older Saab 900 Turbo or something for a play around car/weekend/rallycross/give me a back up car cause mine will die/I'm such a Saab fanboi...

Mechanics do that...and so do cars. My Volvo ALWAYS works differently (note - not well, just differently) when it goes in. My mechanic apprently refuses to believe the brakes squeek, and also that the coolent cap magically fixed itself when it last went in...as opposed to at Oran Park - far far away from home, wher its seemed to 🤬 itself.

Liking the Saab sticker on the side - I didn't think I would but the bold lettering somehow compliments the generously proportioned spokes on the wheels. All you need now is an Australian flag and you last name underneath it and it shall magically go even faster 👍.

As my Seat Heater started only intermittently working

Also about 4 months back, the knob which lets you adjust the heat, snapped when I attempted to turn it (How dare I!), so it's been stuck on full-heat for the past 4 months, now it's coming up to summer I'll be looking at getting that fixed.

You live in Australia... Why are you using the heater? I thought you guys would have year round A/C weather...

If you haven't yet, you might look around on a Saab forum and see what they say about any remaining issues. You might be able to fix some of them yourself.

Possibly in Queensland - but definatly not in Sydney and Melbourne.

Never really use the heater during the day, but in Melbourne it can get pretty cold during the night if the air is coming through the mountains, but still only use it for demisting.

Check out my hot new loan ride.

Ohhhhhh yeeeeaaaa

...it tells me that I've got a Rear Brake Light Failure, which I checked and I do. But it always magically fixes itself overnight, so I'm thinking another loose connector somewhere.
Your car tells you that? That's nuts! My car didn't tell me that--I found out when a dude on a sport bike about crashed into my ass at 40 mph.

But yeah, a friend and I did some detective work and eventually found the problem to be the connector that carries all the electrical wires to the rear of the car. The one wire that carries the brake light signal--the most important one, of course--was loose inside the connector, and corroded. We removed the clip, gave the wire it's own connector, wrapped it, and problem solved.

It's one of those simple things that just make so much sense. I assume it does the same for headlights/indicators, as well as things like wiper fluid.

So some asshole stole my rear emblem from my car today at the shopping centre, and attempted to take the front one as well.

Get to my car and I see a missing rear badge and some pretty bad marks where they're pried it off with a screwdriver. The front one is also kinda wonky, and about to fall, so I assume they tried that one too before someone came, as it's a busy car park at a main shopping complex, so chances are someone would have seen them.

Now it'll probably cost me about $30-$50 to import one to replace it. Thanks guys. They're just lucky I didn't catch them in the act. Reported it to security, who didn't have Cameras in the area but will let me know if they find anything.

Who the **** steals a Saab badge anyway???

Yeah, what I did was tell Security that someone had stolen by badge, just so when they asked me what type of car I drive, I can say, "Oh, it's a Saab".

That's totally what I do all the time.

So a bit of an update as haven't given one in a while.

So my car is now done ~10,000km since I first got it and is kinda turning into a real Saab. Though I'm doing less KMs since I moved 5km away from my work which is nice.

First up, the "Fasten Seat Belt" light, doesn't work anymore. But it will still sometimes beep at me even when my seatbelt is in, which is awesome fun.

Secondly, my cruise control has stopped working, but only some of the time. One day it's working, next day it's not, it's like it gets tired and needs a rest. At least once it's on, it tends to stay on, but probably soon it will turn on and kill me when I'm sleeping.

Thirdly, it's decided it doesn't want to play burnt CDs, it used to do them perfectly, but now it sounds like a scratched up record.

Mechanically though it's still going fine though....and I have some pretty rad pictures when I took my Saab to the farm which I will post later.

I totally jinxed myself didn't I.

No less than 16 hours after my post someone decided to reverse into my car this morning. Fortunately I they left a note and it turned out to be the girl who lived across the road, and she's happy to pay for it. But of course now I've got to go around getting quotes and things, which is a pain, and knowing this car replacing that light will cost a fortune, but hey, the girl who hit me did just sell her house last week for 1.2 Million so they can probably afford it.

Here's to bad luck. (And a stangely pink looking picture)

Go to the dealer, get the price of the light, and be like...

...and then maybe since you said "girl" instead of "woman" you can just waive the fee and hook up.

That'd be a pretty expensive hook up, I dunno if insurance will cover it.

Our Legacy/Liberty got run into as well, does your insurance cover you for a hire car?

Probably not, I've only got third party cover cause I refuse to pay $3000 a year for fully comprehensive, especially when I've never been in an at fault accident and haven't even had a speeding fine in ~4 years.

I get the feeling that the other party just wants to pay for the damage without going through insurance as they assume it'll be cheaper than the excess (Probably about $500), but I guess they've never hit a Saab before. When I had my SEAT the headlight assembly was $350 to replace alone, I assume the Saab to be similar.

Sounds VW-ish too. I'm well acquainted with switches and buttons that start and stop working at will.

The bloke who reversed into our car was a L-Plater who got his permits the day before and was not displaying his L-Plate, didn't have his permit with him, and was carrying an unlicensed passenger. *facepalm*

He is however claiming that he will cover all the costs, including the hire Corolla we had for a week + day. Hopefully he'll pay up.

Well best of luck with it all brad, ive got water all inside one of my lights.. should be covered under warranty... i hope...

Keep us updated how it works out

I was in Melbourne last week and didn't see your car, therefore I can only conclude that you sir are a fraud.

Man. I really need to get into the panel repair industry....

My car is camouflaged to people who aren't from Melbourne. That's my people keep hitting it.

its possible to get that stuff repaired, plastic welders etc, but hey, if your not paying for it...

You know what sucks. Having a car, and then being without a car.

So my car is in being repair, ended up just going through insurance cause every quote was about 1.5k. Estimated completion date

21st June

However, it can take that long to repair a headlight I have no idea. But it totally sucks being without a car. I have to like, ask people for lifts and ****. I don't know how I did it for 18 years of my life....
