Well given the news that it expires in roughly 6 months (or as late as 18 months if your pessimistic) I think this thread deserves to be moved up a tad.

https://www.gtplanet.net/porsches-exclusive-contract-with-ea-reportedly-set-to-expire-in-2016/

So, I think we should start a petition, to Porsche, not to EA, to say 'Porsche - please keep your car licenses open'.

My questions to this group are, would that be the right question, and, is 6 months a more likely estimate (31/12/2015) or do people interpret that article as more like 18 months (31/12/2016).
we really make this a thing? i'll gladly sign said petition, heck i even know people that would like to sign such a thing, i'd even involve my girlfriend and her family ( we're italians so expect a huuuuge number.)

-> I'll be a pessimist on this one. EA will renew its contract with Porsche. Both companies are greedy, and greedy people think alike!

...Usually, I'm not a type of a person to jump on the bandwagon but an interesting thought occurred to me:

What if EA decides not to renew it? They whipped their bean counters up from their slumbers and make them do some Maths thingy, and they all came back and said paying Porsche millions every year only to feature a handful of cars didn't do squat to their brand identity or somesuch.

So as a money-grubbing greedy a-holes (as some in these forums leads you to believe) EA decides to simply not bother with renewal and save themselves more $$ which looks way nicer on the bottom line and the shareholders are happy.

...And in swoops Dan Greenwalt and M$ money, and they gobble up Porsche license...:lol:

I'm sure Porsche will be using some metric or another to monitor the impact of the Forza licensing deals, perhaps in that data they've seen the short-comings on EA only license...

Just imagine now Turn 10 getting the license , since they know everyone wants Porsche and they got the money to secure the deal. Also them and EA have been in negotiationa before so it wouldn't be that unlikely to happen.

Don't think Turn 10 could possibly do it the same though. At most, it'll be only exclusivity on the Xbox, they couldn't stop PD from getting the license for Playstation. Only reason it worked with EA was because they are a multiplatform company and therefore, made it quite easy to deny any developer on any platform.

Yes , makes sense but even if it was only XBOX exclusive it would still be screwing everyone else ...

Let's hope Porsche doesn't want to renew the license with the Electronic Assholes and let everyone else get a piece of the pie.

EDIT: (skip to 1:14) It would be great if you could have that again.

He gave them up because exclusivity is bad for racing games.
Exclusivity is good however, for whomever holds the licenses. No one is in this business for the good of the business, everyone is out to make the most money possible. If the license is available as a total exclusive and affordable, you can bet it will go to the highest bidder, whomever that might be.

Yes, but it was dealing with EA to get access to Porsche that made him change his stance on exclusivity.

I don't think he changed his stance at all, it's just the kind of thing you would say if you're not the guy with the exclusive deal. If you're in the driver's seat you'd same something different like, "we're so happy that Porsche has chosen us to showcase their outstanding line up of cars and Forza is the best franchise in the world to be able to do this with the attention to detail it deserves. Forza fans are the greatest fans in the world and deserve exclusive access to this legenday car line up...etc. ".

There was nothing stopping him from retaining the Ferrari licensing. The deal didn't expire, he gave it up because he didn't want to block the cars from being in other racing games.

Regardless of what happens with the Porsche licence we are not going to see any in GT6. The same reason we won't see new tracks as GT7 development is in full swing.

GT7 is a possibility but until it is clear that EA have not renewed, or PD have been seen photographing a Porsche, I will not get excited.
