I think if you listen closely you can hear a bit in the promo video.. Although the engine sound in the promo is usually not the sound used in-game, but this one sounds as if it could be the the same..

Ok, that's correct, I wasn't having the right chain of thought on that one. :dunce: No need to be hasty here. Although as Dino said:

Yeah, the beginning does sort of hold your hand, with the whole "Drive a Honda Fit\Jazz first without being able to pick any other car" story and such. But yes, I get: GT is (despite its faults) a simulator. :)

Also, I've noticed something about the last trailer: we don't actually get to hear the 2X's sound, right? Along with the good music, I didn't hear any engine notes... Or did I miss something?

Lasers don't really make much sound at all, if anything it would literally sound like an electric car which it is. And maybe the sound of shockwaves.... whatever that may sound like lol

Now that's a visionary VGT!

And a laser propulsion system isn't all bogus: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_propulsion

At our current level of tech, it isn't viable for a car though.

It is used as a propulsion for satellites, it's another form of thrust quite simply put, if anything it's the future for aviation & maybe even motor vehicles.

I've been rewatching the trailer and all I found was a faint sound, as if it were a taser weapon of sorts. I might be wrong, but there is just no way PD can have an actual sound they can rip off from another car, like they did with previous VGT teasers. Add another mystery to the 2X's "mystery pile"...

In the event of a head on crash that gold rocket laser engine thing's going straight up your backside. Doesn't help you gotta spread your legs either

At least you aren't behind it. If the reflector plate thing comes off for whatever reason, that 671MW laser is going to burn a hole through your head.

I want it to make the intro sounds to Granite by Pendulum when you start it, then make big scary laser sounds the rest of the time.

It has a different engine type to anything else in the game, it'll surely sound like some sort of Jet thing or like nothing at all.

Actually, no. The 2X will likely use a pulsed plasma or heat exchange (HX) thruster. The typical whine of jet engines is produced by two elements that aren't present in those engines: the fans, and the jet. A laser engine would likely produce a crackling sound as continuous shockwaves produce thrust, to which you must always add the various mechanical sounds that any car produces, regardless of their motivation.

Such a sound is heard at the end of the reveal video, after the two 2Xs cross the finish line at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Not sure if anyone noticed the name on the car.

Pete Aron. The main character played by James Garner in the movie Grand Prix.

I did read that a few pages ago, it is a bit of an obscure reference for those who don't don't know their movies. I myself only saw a glimpse of "Grand Prix" (the Monza bit where a big crashed happened, IIRC), so I'm not really familliar with it. It is a great cultural reference though, one that does put a smile on my face. :) A great touch to an already great car.

Thanks for pointing that out, I thought it was funny it said Pete on the side of car then that girl got in it. :boggled:

So I wasn't the only one that noticed that. Thought that was pretty cool, an unexpected nod.

They're going to have to stick a big yellow sticker saying "CLASS 10 LASER DEVICE" on the side of the car as a warning.
