So does anyone even need the write up for mine?

I wouldn't mind seeing it intel, I'm going to build something similar and could use a place to start.

After reading the last 14 pages, I think I'm going to go with the AK Rocker off of Ebay, and then build the PVC designs I've seen in this thread. Seems pretty cost effective and I'll use that seat for more than just this game. Have to do something, sitting on the couch with a pillow over my lap just isn't getting it done. ;)

Another angle of my friend's setup--a better view of the custom-built adjustable stand. He just finished the 5+ hour Fuji endurance race.

LOL my @ Ghetto setup!
i had to crop the pic because i've been playing GT4 too much and not cleaning up... :)
My setup is just an old end table ( I put it in the attic instead of throwing it away about a year ago :) ) Anyway my couch and this endtable are at just the right height for it to work out pretty good... Freebie! The only bad thing is the end table takes up alot of room... oh well......

I'm getting the DFP soon, and i dont have very much space in which to set it up. See my damn bed its like waaaay to close to my TV. And unmovable.

So

Hes a couple of pics from my crap webcam.

Picture001.jpg

Thats my pc, n my tv on the right (duh) anyway you can see my tv and pc monitor are at an angle.

Picture002.jpg

Thats like, below the tv, where my tower lies - theres no where facing the tv that i could attach the DFP

Picture003.jpg

Thats almost the same pic - gives a sense of space.

Anyway, i'm wondering what I can do to make it plausable. I may be able to put the wheel on my desk, but i'd rather have it facing the TV. I'm just wondering if anyone has any cunning ideas. Sorry its abit thrown together, if anyone needs more info, i'll be happy to give it.

Thanks for your time,

Sprog

Edit : Pictures aint working, give me a mo.

I just stopped by my local Wal-mart during lunch and picked one of these up. It's pretty hard to beat for $29! I think I might try to assembly it somewhat "backwards" with the side posts angled towards me instead of away. Hopefully that will place the pedals further away, the way I'm used to.

I actually looked at those last night. Seemed way to unstable for my taste. Buy hey its only 30 bucks.

I dunno, I think it will be pretty stable. The box was heavy as crap to carry to my car! If it needs a little more stability, I'll lay a few 15lb plates from my now-dormant weight bench on it, hehe. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how it feels.

ah ok.. I have the plans from the Orignal guy that made it with an AK Rocker So you're probobly better off with his plans than mine for that..

The wheel station doesnt look stable. Its cool that it is foldable and the price isnt so bad. If it was stable I would buy it. I highly doubt it is, so Im just going to build my own.

Mart. On the manufactorswebsite the rocker chair is $69.00. At Wal-Mart they have a chair that is only slighty different for $29 same maker. When you are the number one retailer in the world companies will almost pay you to sell their stuff.

You know what? I actually just picked it up last night too! BTW, don't bother trying to assemble it backwards. I tried it every which way, and the best way ended up being the right way.

Actually it is very stable, MUCH more stable than my previous setup... which was a plastic folding table.

Yeah the box was damn heavy, and my girlfriend wasn't helping by walking so slow in front of me and not opening the back of the car fast enough! lol

but yeah, no need for weights... this damn thing doesn't budge. pics later.

Any pics?

Nvm I think your talking about this? The AK-rocker is totally different. That rocker chair there looks like you could fall off easy ;P Maybe I'll get that and build a new setup :sly: 👍 If you built a whole frame that had somekind of holder for the seat you'd probobly be fine.

...I think your talking about this?

I purchased one of those very seats over a year ago...and had to take it back because it was so uncomfortable....the manufacturer uses such little padding on the chair that any sufficent time spent in it and your back starts to hurt like a mo-fo...

One thing I did forget to mention though with my experience with that particular seat is that I'm 6ft-5inches & over 225lbs...so the issue I experienced could have just been because I was too tall (and/or too fat! :) ) to really enjoy the benefits of it...I got it from the Great Mall over in Milpitas from a shop/store called The Futon Shop...You may want to check it out first hand though before deciding not to get it...

wooo duct tape!! The pedals seem really close to you though o_O

After looking at the price of those Frex shifters, I've decided to make a shifter mod for my wheel using this shift knob and some various other materials to be determined at a later date.

I feel it would be easy and cost effective to move the shift handle down beside the wheel and replace that dinky ball with a real piece of motoring hardware. Plus it would make shifting a hell of alot easier because the back of your hand isn't hitting the shifter when you go to shift suddenly.

Not to mention the fact that it looks cool :sly:

I finally put mine together. I had origionaly bought a APC racing seat on E-bay. I kept waiting and waitin for it. About 2 weeks went by and i got a phone call. The police had caught the guy and all his e-bay stuff is stolen. I thought it was to good to be true. It was way to cheap. Anyway i went to walmart and got a boat seat for 24 bucks and built this rig in about 2 hours. What do you think? I will paint it tonight. Is has no shakes at all and fits me perfect. Plus it only cost me about 30 dollars total because i had enough scrap wood left over from anouther project.

I just picked up an AK Rocker off of Ebay last night for $50 shipped to my door. It was an open box item, but I don't really care about that.

Thanks again for the plans Intel!

Has anyone else ever spent this much time or money on a game before. I love it even when I'm not playing I'm still working of GT4 somehow. I've spent more time making my little bootleg stand and planning a better one than I have playing the game. Oh I know its cheesey looking I have the 5.1 dolby around me and another speaker system that came with last steering wheel mounted to the stand. Come on even after I do all the weight reduction to my car I would still have to add back 200lb. for my speaker box.

You don't want to even know what I've spent on my setup...as I think most people would call me either crazy or just plain stupid! LOL!

Heres my unfinished 'pit.

www.iamsethmo.com/Pics/cockpit/

Yesterday me and my friend made a bar for the wheel to bolt down to. We put it on a hinge so you can get in and out of the cockpit easy. Total cost so far is $37 in metal for the seat bracket and the steering wheel bar. I got the piping for free, have about 50ft of 1 1/4" left :sly:

Only tools we used were a chop saw, pipe bender, mig welder, and a grinder. I am going to paint it tonight, hopefully run a few races if the paint dries fast 👍

LOL at the chair and the wheel angle. I bet that feels like an 18wheeler.

I went to Pull-A-Part couldn't find any really cool seats so I got one out of a Toyota Tercel. Its sort of light and has the hole in the head rest so it looks kind cool. I bring the thing home and my wife puts me and the seat out of the house, something about it didn't go with her decor. So plan 2 make a cockpit out of stuff I have around the house and I came up with the 18 wheeler rig a couple of post up. I never thought about it but thats probably why I keep driving the Sports Trucks(sub-conscience my body is saying we must be driving a truck.) But thats ok I got another idea my son will just have to find another place to sleep you'll see check back here around 12noon cst.
