Heres my cockpit. Only spent about 50 dollars "USD" to make it from steel. Its still unfinished but very comfortable to sit in. Though i'll spend more on it to finish it off when I hang a body on it. When its finished it'll look like the front half of a MP4/8 :)
Still the frame can be built for 50 or under depending on the materials used and your knowlege of fabrication.

Man i liked your setup a lot. :D

Nice choice. Could u give me some details of it? I mean, of construction, because i wanna make one similar to yours, i prefer to be sited in F1 position instead of Truck position as many round there.

Your´s nice one. 👍 :)

Hehehe bem simples e criativo o seu. 👍 :)

I fused together 2 school desks (dad = teacher) which vary about 10cm in height (1 for wheel, 1 for TV) and put them in front of the VERY comfy couch. It's perfect, I can sit there for 24 hours (of LM or Nordschleife hehe).

Wood for "fuse-thing" costed 20, 2nd hand TV costed 45. That's it.

Never seen this before, was always looking for a cheap stand like that, this is purfect

its a hell of a deal, i recomend it to anybody that wants a reasonable set up, in fact enigMatt from GTP bought one after i posted pics of mine 👍

franz
wow .. 30 bucks! not bad at all
is the table stiff enough for the DFP force feedback?

the stand had wheels on it but i took them off, and yes it is plenty stable 👍

That is actually a pretty cool setup. I would have done that but I wanted the sports low to the ground feel.

thanx bro 👍

Feddo
LOL...... first pic: ...he is playing GT3 on Xbox!!! 👍

btw nice table: I got a similair table. it only costed me $5 at a 2nd hand store and it's very very steady...

wonderpill
nah the ps2 is standing up on the left of the TV?

lol the PS2 is in its proper place now 👍

Just get a cheap coffe table or something from a garage sale and a car seat from the junkyard.

I use my WRX's seat since I got a Recaro in my car.

Whoa do you have to stand up for that thing, or do you have like a barstool?
Nice Ofna Hyper 7. I too am into R/C's.
I use my computer chair, and I made it the comfortable height that will work with my chair.

Now see, this is a great cockpit. Asside from the custom welding, a rig like this is really nice. It uses a real seat from an average car and the configuration is just about right with the spacing of the wheel, seat and peddals.

The problem with most of the other setups in this thread is that they're not lined up correctly ... unless you're simulating driving a BUS. You need to get your legs out in front of you and the wheel at about chest level.

yeah, you know.. i thought that myself. it seems to fit me fine. i printed the plates directly from the PDF files and cropped them instead of scaling them so it should be the right size. i'll take a measurement of the height when i get home. i'm in school right now. it does seem a little low to me though. i didnt cut it down though. i'm definitely going to make something to hold my pedals at a better angle cause my ankles start to hurt after a while... laterr-
i measured it.. 22 inches from floor to top. when i get a car seat i will adapt the height of the cockpt/wheelholder accordingly by adding little extentions or something, although it will probably look really hack.. hopefully i can just adjust the seat. later-

Here's my cheap set up, $49 Fliptop table at home depot. It even has tilt steering and hight adjustments. Good enough for me.

PS it's very sturdy and doesn't move.

Im starting it right now. I also printed the PDF's and arranged them accordingly. It does seem quite small. However, i will have leftover wood, so i plan on building adjustable raisers for the whole thing as well as making the steering wheel raise and slide back and forth, won't be hard given the structure of the whole cockpit. The pedales are easy to make at an angle just make a angled box (sorta likea triangle). Its just that when you look at the authors pictures the whole setup looks a lot higher then the actual diagrams.... Oh well all can be fixed i guess. Thanks for the feedback tho.

you know how at the bottom of the DFP, the clamps, how you can snap off a part of the clamp to give you more room for your clamps. will if you didnt you where like me but i found out the hard way. my bro was cleaning up the game room and he throw my DFP in the corner like the A-hole he is and one of the clamp part fell off so i have one side with one and one with out on and my warranty might be over. So can anyone tell me where to get the clamp part?

dont worry about it ! just take off the other one and clamp it back on your table. i took off the little extentions and it gave me a more stable and secure hold on my cockpit. it wont void your warranty if you send it back to them for some reason. they won't care. later-

Hi,

The firetooth plans are fairly easily modified so it may be easier to add a little to the wheel setup as I did when you build it rather than try to add someting on later. You could always cut some off later if need be.
I also made an angled pedal mount and it makes a huge difference.

I can take specific pictures if you would like to see how i went about things.

Cheers,
Dave.

JBR-Man
Man. I had the same idea.

I bought already a Golf GTI leather seat and now started to mount the structure of the whole thing.

Will post pics when done.

Really? Cuz my bro bought a Recaro A8 in Green Italian leather and that's what I rock right now!

Too bad it's with a DS2... =(

If you can show me how you did it that would be awsome, i haven't started cutting yet. I just layed out the plans for now. Im gonna trace them over onto the wood prolly tomorrow since im working anyways. Im not gonna useing up wood for the seat mounts so i should have left over wood to do some extensions/mods if need be.
But yeah if you can get some pics in of how it turned out for you that would be awsome.

Thanks.

those are some hot setups everyone. I wish I had the space to spend on a nice system because I do have the money. Ah well, I shall wait until I am so lonely I need a video game to satisfy my living space.

It isn't my thing, but that TV so close to the PC is pretty good for an online gaming setup. Everything's right there. Nice interior design work, dressemonkey.

Hi -MortICi-,
Here are some pics of my setup, most can be found elsewhere on the site but I also took one of the angled pedal mount for you to have a look at.

Cheers,

Dave.

I saw this setup:

Pc140004.jpg

In this thread:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=granturismo&message.id=50359&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

There are more photos in this thread, as well as the following explanation:

"Yeah, I got the Rocker from BestBuy. It doesnt move at all during driving, and its very comfy. It was the costliest part of the whole rig, at $75. The rest of the materials included: PVC pipe, fittings, cement, plastic primer, black plastic gloss paint (3 cans), 24"x24" plexiglass sheet (cosmetic hood), (2) U-bolts for scrap wood & some black velcro to affix the pedals to the crossbar. I had a 10ft USB extension cable already, that I wasnt using. So, in all I spent about $150.(excluding the wheel, which was another $150)"

I think it looks cool! 👍

If you need one or two replacements, let me know as I've got them laying around
(They were pulled from my first DFP, which met a sad ending a few weeks ago! :) )
and am willing to send to you....

I like it very nice, the paint job is sexeh too :) Im gonna paint mine all black as well and just put the GT simbols on the sides (Blue and Red) I like the pedal angle very nice. Did you use something special to make the pedals grip (I have double sided tape that i can use for that).

Thanks.

I had to make the pedals movable so my kids can use the setup too. So what i did was cut a piece of wood to fit in the slot that is halfway up the base of the pedals, then screwed to that 2 peices of dowel that fit snugly into the holes in the plate. Add a small non slip rubber placemat and its goo to go.

Dave.
