Wow I am impressed on some of the designs here. You guys are great. I have been wanting to create one for myself, but not enough room in our apartment. I will definitely create one myself very soon.

Just a note for anybody who wants to create their own, keep some key elements in mind.

1. If the steering wheel has force feed back (most of them do), make sure that whatever it is attached to is well secure or weighted. I have mine attached right now on a small table and it jumps all over the place, I had to put my leg on top (very uncomfortable).

2. If you like, make it adjustable. I'm pretty sure someone you know would want to try it. It would be ashame if they don't fit.

For my plans, I want it lightweight, compact, and if possible mobile (you can fold it and carry, just in case I want to move...again.
Metal is the way to go for the frame, a bucket seat would be nice too.

been lurkin' a long time , researched all of your guys' designs and came up with this in the end. seat is real comfortable and the wheel adjusts horizontal and vertically and rotates on its axis. spent about 100$ on the whole thing and would have been much cheaper if i hadn't of used abs plastic, i should have used pvc. all in all , it makes the gaming so much funner and lessons where learned along the way.....

Heres my new DFP with a budget setup, works fine but wont be like this for long. I'm making plans for a tubular steel frame w/ seat mounting brackets.

And a close up of the cheezy Logitec centercap, damn I was lookin forward to the shiney GT logo.

Here's an updated pic of my setup...

I used an old computer table (still the best option for the least amount of moola IMHO) which is weighed down by the 29 inch TV. This prevents most of the shakes. The table itself is custom made by a friend, but was not in use anymore. I decided to chop the legs and lower it to driving height. The seat is an old plastic/monoblock chair which I covered with some padding and an old seatcover. Total cost (tv not included) = $0.00

I have a Driving Force Pro (USB slot) and a modified Panther Lord Steering wheel which plugs into the PS2's DS2 port. This setup gives me 2 extra pedals, an extra sequential shifter and a handbrake. I tweaked the Panther Lord gas pedal so that it prevents the sequential shifters from working unless it is pressed. This makes Enthusia even more realistic as you can only shift when the clutch pedal is pressed. It works for GT4 too, but GT4 does not have the clutch pedal function. DFP is $150 and the PL wheel is around $20.

Here's the shifter and handbrake. The knob's an old Volkswagen Beetle shift knob. You can see a switch below the handbrake. I added this to switch the Panther Lord to it's original configuration. This way, I can use it as a second player wheel when someone comes over to race. I added some brake pads to the setup to somewhat "hide" the fourth pedal.

i've been racing GT for over five years now i think but man, when i got my dfp last monday... My dream became true... This was extreme fun but i had to take it yet further, like you guys. Very budget way in my opinion :P

No money at all was spend here except oc the wheel... Just around two or three hours of sawing and hammering the good old fashion way.
Started out by sawing off the legs oh this chair, lol. And laying two pieces of wood in a flat sharp V form. Then builded on from that without minimal measuring cause i wanted to race so damn fast :P
It still is very stable though.

Changes i see in the nearby future:
- Pedals in a bigger angle
- cables more cleaned up

further future:
- a better seat ;)

Is the DFP mounted Up-Side-Down?

BTW: I don't know what country you're from, but from where I come... from, it's called the PS2. The PSX was only for the Original PlayStation and the DVR-tastic White Set-top-box released only in Japan.

Here's a cheap sim setup for ya!!

Old dining table = $0
Old padded chair = $0
A small wicker side table = $0
Cinder block = $0
Driving Force Pro = $150
Madcatz MC2 = $50
Having a race car that you can drive any time you want in your room = Priceless. LOL

where did you get that logitech center piece? first time I've seen that one... usually see the GT version.

Just thought I'd let you guys see my work-in-progress cockpit. Spent about an hour this morning putting it together, then went back and forward to it during the day tweaking...... Let me know what you think. Oh and the materials only cost £23.22p (UK).... just got to sort out a mount for the pedals. The wheel will be going on a nice piece of pine shelving, which will be attached to the top with pipe clips. Oh yeah, the wheel will be my DFP, which I got from a local PC world, in the casualty section for £5. Only required a new power supply which I had from my logitech force feedback joystick...

I'm going to make a cockpit for dfp but im having problems thinks how i can make it out of household items ,
what i want is it to be quite low to the ground ,strong ,have a great seat but most of all I want it to look great (i think black paint will do the trick)
does anyone have any ideas of what items i could use?
my dad is a bit of a handy man with wood but im just stuck for ideas and i've been through every page of this thread !

I've been lurking in this thread for too long, now it's time to POST!

Got this table for FREE from work as they are upgrading the offices and throwing out a lot of stuff. See my Command Center on my Flickr page ( http://flickr.com/photos/kuhnaydeein/sets/72057594138226246/ ) for details!

Mount the wheel to the pull-out Keyboard/Mouse tray and this is what you get:

It has a little 'give', but it's within acceptable tolerances. The same under-steer you might get from the G-Forces pulling you away from the direction of the turn. Being as it is a Slide-out tray, I have unlimited adjustability in distance, angle and height! If you can find something like this at Office Depot, or Staples in the Desk section, it's worth it! Serves dual purposes; it's easily usable for real business! And, you could work and stuff if you wanted to as well...

Here's a wide-angle shot off the rest of the place if you don't want to check out my Flickr Page:

It is definitely worth checking out to see the progression that has led to this whole office setup. Though, it's hardly an 'office' the way I use it!

PS:
Sorry for the Confusion Karras85! I didn't mean to offend or alienate you!!! I just tend to pick on people over little things trying to push buttons to start a more lively conversation! I didn't know you were actually from another country, but in this day and age you can never assume anything!

Take Care! (And call the PSX2 whatever you wanna call it!)

I'm pretty sure they changed it. I had one with the GT center cap, and had it replaced only to find the logitech logo in the middle - I was pretty mad. But I think they made the force feed back a tiny bit stronger, so i am not complaining.

I build my cockpit using a gym bank, cutting and pasting pieces...

Gym Bank > 60 US dollars
Racing Seat > 60 US dollars
Work > 50 US dollars (cut and solder parts) + some metal plate pieces.

Total 170 US dollars!

I´m using a DELL 20" widescreen monitor with SVIDEO input for the PS2, DFP Wheel and Aura Cushion Seat with vibration force... ; )

Regards!

Leo.
