Of course it´s not really stable enough but better then in your lap driving I am sure ;) But really I am sure you would still feel like you need something more solid and then it´s a vaste of money...

Great work guys! Some of these designs are incredible! You inspired me to build one this past weekend. Next I plan on cleaning it up & layin some paint! Then figure a better way to manage the wires than "Candy cane" around the post :)

Here's some pics

Seems very similar in design... I just can´t see how that can be stable with a force feedback wheel like DFP, G25, 911 with such a narrow base... bnsfmikes solution should work a bit better though I don´t understand the offset of the pedals :)

Otherwise just use a simple table with 4 legs at the correct height for the wheel if a cockpit just is to bulky.

hehe yeah its workin out pretty nicely! You'd think it has a strong offset, but its really not that bad. The dfp doesn't have a clutch, so the brake is fairly close. Having that post in the center is the big reason its off center. It was just more comfortable this way.

I'm already thinking about a new build with a different frame setup, one that's not made of scrap metal in my garage :) Girl I'm seeing hinted she might get me the g25 for my bday this month.. If she does I'll build one with a shifter mount :)

right foot braker ;)

LOL Ah! Yes I am. Left foot should be used for clutch work only! Nothin more annoying than driving behind somebody who drives w/ their left foot resting on the brake. Brake lights constantly flashing on & off even tho they aren't slowing down!

My setup (Pics Page 3 of this thread) has been slightly modded to accept its new G25 ,
I hope you like it and any suggestions are appreciated,
Dave.

I'm new here but I've seem some nice rigs! Congratulations everybody.

Dave, do you have the plans for your project that you could share?

Thanks in advance.

To many fast clips and mostly on the wheel don´t see much of the cockpit in the video :). But looks really nice just fix something so you can raise the pedals up 45 degrees approx for the right foot angle :)

I got a super cheap solution that has been working for me for 4 months. I bought an adjustable height saw horse from homedepot, cost me all of $20! Its foldable so you can tuck it away when not needed. Works best on carpet (slides to much on hardwood).

Also I picked up an Icush massage seat for $40, I run the rear surround sound channels in to the headrest speakers and sometimes I use the rumble feature for buttkicker effect (it is bit too much vibration for my liking).

I've ordered one of these for the G25. Should come this week. I'll tell you what the performance is like once I get it. I'm currently using the lapstand which is excellent, but some of my friends who are...erm...lets say...big boned (i.e. No stranger to a fish supper or salad dodgers ), cannot fit 'into' the Lapstand, so they have contributed to the payment of the wheelstandpro just to play GT5 Prologue.

http://wheelstandpro.com/

They have assured me (very good comms) that the stand is not flimsy and the table where the pedals are will not move at all because of the rubber rings at the bottom.

Hi Everyone

My wheelstandpro arrived in 4 working days from Poland (EU member so no custom and ex charges )

This stand is so brilliant its untrue. It ticks every single box you can think of!!!

1) It is sturdy under intense driving conditions

2) It folds away

3) Bespoke for G25

4) Pedals are a comfortable fit

5) It stays completely still (the stand has complete rubber feet)

5) Looks nice

5) The gearstick could go either side (left or right)

I really can't believe how good it is!

I've enclosed some pictures believe me its worth it ;)
(Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry it was taken in the night)

Any questions let me know :smashin:

WAS THAT THING 2 HUNDRED dollars. if it was you could have bought a playseat evo for that. the playseat rocks it out

$200 for that?!?!?! You've gotta be kidding me! I thought this thread was for CHEAP cockpit alternatives. I mean, to each their own, but to me that's nuts.

WAAAAAAAAY too expensive for what it is. Besides, it doesn't look to be very stable laterally. Just my opinion, though.

well its good since it folds and you can hide it in the closet or under the bed. but real price should be 100 dollars.

You've got to remember guys I live in England the houses are not nearly as big as you've got in the US, so we are limited in space. If you are married or live with your girlfriend, believe me a playseat is NOT an option. Something that folds away is always going to be good. I like the wheelstandpro a lot and to me its worth every penny. A playseat even though it is the 'best tool' for the job is still a monstrocity in the front room/living room.

Friends/Neighbours/family would think i've gone crazy if I had that in my front room. Like I said, if you are limited for space you have no choice :-(

Believe me it's stable under the most intense conditions. I have Burnout Paradise, GT5 prologue demo, Ridge Racer 7. It is absolutely is the best solution for me :-)

Yes, I know what you are saying and going for, it is the best solution.
I don't know why you wanna play Burnout and Ridge racer with a wheel?
GT5 is great since its a great simulator... but the other two games are too arecady and I prefer to play them with a controller. They are not worth destroying my G25 over.

You'll be surprised. Burnout Paradise is pretty good with the wheel, Ridge Racer is ok with the wheel. I like these racers better than dirt, forumla one, Need for Speed (any of them!), and Sega Rally.

GT5, Burnout, and Ridge Racer all run at 60fps while Dirt, formula one, Need for Speed and Sega Rally. all run at 30fps. Most Dreamcast games ran at 60fps so was hoping most of the driving games would for the PS3. 60fps runs so much smoother and is more realistic. Although I don't wanna turn this thread into a 60fps V 30fps argument :-D

Dirt.. for me that game is dirt. My cousin bought a copy, came over since i have the wheel. And the Wheel is sooo bad with that game, there guys did not know how to tune a good FFB. The graphics, I don't know why critics say Graphics are good... When we watched replay, you can even notice it while you drive, THE game loads all the textures and stuff POP out ... what quality is that? as well LOADING is way too long. I don't know why this game is on next gen consoles.. There are many game developers that are too lazy with racing games and Dirt is that game. IDK why some say its a SIMULATOR.. cars don't act like they should as in real world. Game like that is targeted for Pick up and play audiences.

Sorry for talking about it, but that game just is low quality game.
Back to the wheels and cockpits.

Here's my DIY cockpit.

I build my desk a year ago, but only now with GT5:P coming out for America in April, I thought I should get my act together and get myself a wheel and pedals.

Obviously I need the right cockpit and I thought my current desk has the right positioning for wheels and pedals so all I needed was a bucket seat. Was successful looking for second hand racing seat locally through forums and craigslist, but no one responded.

I was able to pick up this seat for $140 at Checkers. Not the most "bucket" of seats, but more comfortable than my office chair. I managed to bolt this chair to my office seat base by using a 5/8 inch thick particle board I had lying around and cut and drill to fit the seat and the office seat base.

The wheel fitted fine and doesn't interfere with my keyboard tray, but I had to support for my pedals. Went to my local hardware store and got some boards, painted it white, and here you have my pedal board that acts as a leg support when not driving.

I just have mine on my coffee table, I really get into it............and i try to get so drunk i don't know i'm not in a real car. :)
