Chinese SUV gets zero in NCAP Safety Test

Looks like China is the Korea of the 1990s!

Looks mightily like a Vauxhall Frontera...

Apparently they've already sold 300 in the Netherlands. Of a car that "testers calculated that a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40mph"

Wow, just wow. IMO they should ban that car from even getting realeased, but over there it doesn't seem to matter...

Wow.
I does look old, 90ish. :/
But thats terrible. Any pics of what a good performer looks like with a front 40mph impact? For comparisons :)

I don't suppose you can go much faster than 40mph anyway in China with the amount of people and such. But you never know.

"testers calculated that a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40mph"

( As stated by chinese automaker )
"Well, geez, if your crazy enough to be doing 40mph in the first place, obviously you deserve to die!"

We may have a bunch of retarted auto regulations in the US, but thankfully we have some of the strictest safety regulations in the world. If I ever get in a minor accident, I'll be thankful to still have use of my legs. Sheesh. :scared:

Holy crap! I can see that having a head on collision with a smart fourtwo and all the occupants of that SUV dead, and the smart fourtwo passengers all fine....

Unless the driver of the SUV is drunk, in which case he gets out of the truck with a scratch on his arm, and the remaining passengers die, as well as those in the Smart.

Okay, here is a few to compare the structual integrity of similar cars.

A Volvo XC 90:

(Okay, so I saw that comparison on Jalopnik. But it is pretty striking.)

Here's the Australian New Car Assessment Program's test of a Camry (4 stars) and the ADAC's test of an Opel Zafira.

Isn't Honda already sueing some Chinese company for ripping off the CR-V? At least the CR-V was a ligetimately good SUV.

Come on guys, they are tring... The koreans started this way too... When you start in the automotive industry this late, you don't have much choice.

Just give the Chinese 10-15 years. They'll be very competitive by then. Just like the Koreans and the Japanese when they were starting out.

But as for this SUV, it just shouldn't be allowed to be sold. Anyone who buys this clearly did absolutely no research whatsoever.

Unfortunately this seems to be typical of the Chinese auto industry. Ripped-off designs, old technology (which means they burn more fuel and produce more emissions than necessary), horrible safety as demonstrated here, and most likely, horrendus build quality.
Made in China = Bad, in my books.
You'd think that in a country of a couple billion people, they could find a few smart ones to design an automobile. :dunce:

Someone shoot Malcolm Bricklin before he brings Chinese cars to the states!!

Is it just me, or do chinese automakers enjoy copying other companies'designs? Why do they get away with it?:mad::irked::irked:

Landwind my arse. It's a freakin' Pilot! Get'em Soichiro!

The comparison is wrong though - the SUV being ripped off here is the 1992-1997 Isuzu Rodeo, not the 1994-1997 Honda Passport. Admittedly it's the same (failed) vehicle, but Isuzu designed it - if anyone's suing anyone, GM-Isuzu will be suing whatever the name of this POS Chinese brand is.

Lol @ the comparison pics. Figures almost nothing would happen to the volvo :sly:

Ya i hear the chinese companies are copying quite a few other brands.

They weren't this bad:

Originals are on the left. I've seen bunch more, but I had never seen the Isuzu lookalike. Very interesting....

Edit: If you are military buff, you've seen them copy weapons too. Just the looks though, they couldn't come nearly as close in other departments. :D

Actually, it looks more like a Passport than a Rodeo to me. The Rodeo probably comes to mind a lot faster, though. It did for me.
