Second Victim Dies After Church ShootingMan Kills Woman, Wounds Child in Church; Later Kills Self
BATON ROUGE, La. Police on Sunday captured the man who allegedly shot dead four people during services at a Louisiana church and later abducted his wife, whom he also killed, and child, officials said.
The suspect's wife was found dead in a car and the child was recovered unharmed after the man was apprehended.
Louisiana State Police cordoned off a nearby apartment complex following the attack, where the suspect was taken into custody.
"We are in total disbelief. We do know that the situation has been brought to a peaceful end," Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff said.
Police said Anthony Bell abducted his wife and child in a beige Nissan Maxima, possibly a rental vehicle, after shooting congregants at the Ministry of Jesus Christ Church. Two of his older children were recovered immediately following the incident.
"They just said that their dad shot some people in church and he took their mommy," neighbor Catherine Veals said of the couple's two older children. Veals said she lives on the same road as the Bell family, near the church. She described as a SWAT team surrounded the apartment complex with guns drawn.
