Circuit Superstars Hits Steam Early Access, Coming to Consoles Later

Available now on X Box and Steam.

Unfortunately not on PS4 yet. I can wait now that I have Art of Rally. First day buy for sure.

Apparently this released yesterday (without much fanfare).

I haven't played it since testing the early access version some time ago. Saw a download of about 500 MB in Steam yesterday. Look forward to trying it today.

This looks like it would be a ton of fun on a controller. Reminds of the old Super Sprint arcade game from my youth.
It is a ton of fun! :)
Another one that you may check out that's also great and even closer to Super Sprint is Ultimate Racing 2D. It has lots of cars and even top-down sort of mini-versions of real tracks.
There's even tyre wear, so you have to pit during races.

Dang. Not going to get it on XBone, as my wife has Gems of War on lock. Have to wait for the PS version.

I haven't driven on a static type screen in probably 30 years or more so that is going to take some time getting used to. I'll probably go home at lunch and purchase it so it's downloaded by the time I get off work this evening. Between this and the F1 2021 Imola update out today I should have plenty to keep me busy tonight.

In the Xbox store it shows Circuit Superstars - Top Gear Time Attack. Is this the whole game?

Yeah that’s the one. Looks like the name is promoting its new Top Gear test track addition which appears to have its own dedicated mode. But yes, that’s the full game.
Ok thanks. I thought it was strange that when I clicked on the regular Circuit Superstars it didn't show a price. But I went ahead and bought the other one and it was downloading when I left home to come back to work.

Yeah, that was pretty weird. Have it down, really can't wait to give it a run.

Just spent about 30 minutes with it. The first thing I noticed is that I'm absolute garbage at driving with a controller. Also is there a level below Amateur? Because I first tried muscle cars and got lapped in a 5 lap race. Next tried GT a got a little better. Didn't get lapped but the leader was very close to lapping me.

But thought I would try Piccino and that was much better. Ran 3 races at Sugar Hill and finished 2nd in the last one but I'm still very rough and all over the place when driving.

Is there a mode where you can solo drive so that you can work on getting smoother and improve your lap times? Because I need a lot of practice.

I'm guessing as you level up more cars will be available to you? Since there are 4 squares in the menu, is it 4 different cars per class? I was in a Camaro in muscle cars but I thought I saw a Challenger in that race with me.

But overall just after that first 30 minutes or so I see this game can get highly addictive. I like it because I don't have to drag my wheel rig out, connect up everything, move the coffee table etc. I can just plop down on my floor gaming chair and spend a few minutes and have some fun. I'm so glad that I didn't throw out that chair about 10 years or so during one of my moves.

Really a fun game though and I'm glad I bought it.

Had a free half hour, so gave it a go. View and controls take some getting used to but so far this is probably the most fun and enjoyable game I've played in years! Different games fill different roles and this one sure ticks some boxes, especially with my inner four year old.

Once you level up and your reward is shown. It's only there briefly. Do you have to hit A to claim it? If you miss it how do you go back and get it? Also when trying to do a pitstop the brake is also reverse, how do you come to a complete stop in your pit box? I kept going back and forth just a little trying to get the car stopped.

Spent some time with it yesterday. Loving it so far. :dopey:

I'm using a PS DualShock4 on my old PC which is connected to my TV. I found that the best way to control the car is to map throttle and brake to right and left trigger buttons, since those have a fair amount of analog throw. So when braking for corners I just tap the brakes slightly and then pulse-modulate the throttle through the corner. My cornering is a bit clumsy so far and veeery far from the optimal racing line (which is visible on the track). The secret to getting fast is obviously learning to follow that line. Very cool, but very difficult.

I have no trouble winning on the lowest difficulty, but I suspect it's going to get really difficult as the cars get more muscle and on higher AI difficulty. The Top Gear test is an indicator of that. Managed 31 sec or something like that. Much harder to control that car than the Piccino. Anyways, really really addictive this game – absolutely suberb!

I suspect most here will be on a console, but for anyone wondering...it's really light on the hardware. I'm running it on a Geforce GTX 670 (Kepler) with totally smooth 60 fps.

Didn't level up so I don't know the answer to the first question. About the pitstops, hmmmm, that's a good question. I did notice that brake also functions as reverse.
But what if you (if you haven't already) map brake and throttle to the analog triggers? Then it's possible to give much smaller inputs as opposed to using buttons, which is basically full throttle or off, and full brake or off.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy this on Xbox or PC, can anyone on Xbox confirm if the impulse triggers work ? If so I will go with Xbox...?

As in do they vibrate? No. They are used for gas and brake, though.

Just found the livery editor. Fairly simple, as you'd expect, easy to use, I like it!

Thanks for the confirmation. Disappointed, should be standard by now..
You're certainly right about that. My two bits about it is the missing trigger feedback feels less important in this game which is just dumb fun than many others with more serious intentions which have it badly implemented or missing entirely. Hopefully other controllers for other platforms get haptic feedback so it makes it more incumbent on devs to work on it. Getting a little off topic but I would like pedals like that for a reasonable price, too.

I'm in.

I could spend all day customising the drivers and liveries for each car. Love this so far.

Did my first Qualifier. Have not played a top down since forever. Lord have us mercy!

Edit: Started and finished 11th in the Muscle Car, Mini and Feather, jumped in the Euro Truck. Got Pole position and the win! On Amateur, but hey, AI were kicking my butt in the previous races. They seemed to struggle with the truck. Actually felt the most controlled thus far.

Impatiently waiting for this to be released on Playstation. The last thing I need at the moment is another game but I'm making an exception for this one. Looks like a lot of fun.

How do you get any color you want on that color wheel? I was trying to make a Jim Clark replica but as I rotated to what I thought was green it was just making the body white. Or is every color available for every car?

You rotate the wheel with X/Y to get the color, then use one of the sticks (can't recall which) to pick your shade out of the little triangle indicator.

As noted above. Took me awhile to actually look down and read the controls.

Finished using all the cars at Whistle Snap. Just going to do that for each new track. After that then try some pit stop races. I did pit using the 60s racer. Took too much damage. And was beating me up at corner exits.
Really Cool. My Daughter calls it the cartoon game.

I'm having trouble remembering the track layouts. I've been running a lot on one or two tracks per night, maybe 5 races on each in different cars. But then when I go back to them a couple of days later it's like I'm having to relearn them all over again. Tilksport is the only one I think I have down pretty good.

Also I'm complete garbage in the muscle car. But on the flip side I'm much better in the Euro Truck than I thought I would be.
