Circuit Superstars Hits Steam Early Access, Coming to Consoles Later

Billy Strange said in his review that some of the cars (such as the Piccino) felt like they just had a "center pin" through them that they rotated around. I thought that was a good description. Not that I'm complaining, I didn't really expect a whole lot from the physics.

Yeah I would agree with that. Maybe because it has the least amount of power I'm guessing? Most everything else has a lot of drift but I have to be a little careful that the Piccino doesn't over rotate especially on a tight hairpin.

Race re-cap video of a recent Circuit Superstars league race - love this game when you get a decent lobby together :-D

It's live on PSN now

If pre-EA Codemasters ever did an official mashup of Micro Machines and TOCA Race Driver, this would have been it.

A few issues with latency in online racing and time trials, but a fun and engrossing experience on the PS4 version so far. Easy to pick up, deceptively cartoonish in style, but offers a genuine challenge when it comes to mastering the different circuits and vehicle types.

Has anyone else accidentally driven onto the the GP loop on Tilksport Club, by any chance?

Machines and TOCA Race Driver
It's kinda fit the feeling I had today.

I only did a championship in the ?Picono? and jump online. Different cars and tracks everytime with good room between 5-10 players. It was hard not to say ugly. Best result is a 5th place out of 10.

I may be too smooth with the throttle and steering. But it's good on fuel. I could finish races without pitting while most of people stop. I also ran out of fuel in 1 or 2 races by being over optimistic.

Downloaded this yesterday and spent around three hours playing last night. I mainly just used the Panther GT car just because I figured it'd be a good all rounder to get used to the physics. Extremely enjoyable, I'm liking it a hell of a lot.

I need to concentrate though on doing some of the cup races and actually learning the tracks. I got stuck for a good hour or so, on the Top Gear Time Attack trying to get my time down. That mode is addictive.

Wasn't ready for the jump in difficulty. I cruised thru all the GP's on amateur. Bumped it up to Pro-Am and only just managed to win the Piccino cup by a whole three points. Looking forward to trying out the longer GP races on a higher difficulty, should be interesting with the pit stops.

This is really great fun, even racing my ghost is fun, until I'm ahead then it stutters and I crash. That is really starting to piss me off, also friends leaderboard is just me on it even though my friends put times down. Now the question is what type of car will they add next? A Go-kart? Rally raid, sidecar? I'd like to see more F1 to complete the decades, that would be pretty cool.

The stuttering is annoying and I hope they sort that out quickly. Friends leaderboard is empty indeed :(

Stuttering on pit entry too, not a big issue that though. I cant get over how good the handling is on this game, they've really put effort into it. I was playing this last night and suddenly remembered a game that was very similar when I was a kid, most people would think of skid Mark's being similar but the one I'm thinking of had a Cizeta C-16 and Alfa Sz on the cover ( or main screen, cant remember) , loved that game. I'm sure someone will remember the name. Was it supercar something?

The stuttering/lag is something I've also been experiencing in both time trials and online races. In the latter, it mostly happens to me on occasions where I make a pitstop, at which point the car starts getting twitchy and loses several seconds to the others. There have been a couple of races where the twitching got so bad that I had to quit because it was making the car impossible to control properly. Kind of like the lag attacks that I sometimes get while playing Wreckfest lobbies, actually.

Other than those issues, though, the game runs absolutely fine. For future updates, I'd like to see Original Fire add a proper BTCC or TCR-style touring car to the vehicle roster, so that I don't have to improvise with the Piccino (Fiat 500-type thing) or Vost (rallycross) all the time. If there aren't any that I'm not aware of, in-game tutorials would also be helpful to bring newcomers up to speed on the basics of driving, strategies and techniques (especially refuelling which even caught me out once!).

I also find it curious that there doesn't seem to be any active online leaderboards in the optional Top Gear Time Attack expansion. That being said, this is where I stood on the 'official' leaderboard after a handful of attempts:

The stuttering must be just a Playstation problem because I haven't noticed any of that on Xbox.

The few times I've ran a race that required a pitstop it took me a few times to get good enough in my box so that the crew would start working. I would brake but then that would put it into reverse, go forward but it would be too much, etc.

Agreed, there's no stuttering on Xbox, but I do seem to have a problem, (a known problem), where the game sometimes hangs when loading which is infuriating to say the least.

Yeah, I get it in single player when making pit stops as well (base PS4). I tried one online race but ended up quitting out halfway thru because the strutting was just so bad. Hopefully it's something that is rectified soon. It's the only real fault I have with the game so far.
