Michele Alboreto testing tyres with the Tyrrell "boomerang" 012.
The car with this wing design was seen only once during a grand prix weekend, in the hands of Alboreto during practice for the 1983 Austrian Grand Prix.

1969 24h of Le Mans - The start

As Jacky Ickx was opposed to the traditional Le Mans start which he considered to be dangerous, he slowly walked across the track to his machine, instead of running. He locked the safety belt carefully and thus was the last to start the race, chasing the field. On lap one, a tragic event proved that Ickx was right: private driver John Woolfe, who had not taken time to belt himself in, had a fatal accident in his new and powerful 917.

That yellow paint is haunting.

Indeed.

Here are three different things for you. Yes, one of them is from this century:

Hungaroring, 2003

A spectacular DNF for Rubens Barrichello.

France, 1982

Of all people, this is future Mercedes-Benz motorsport supremo Norbert Haug testing the Renault RE30.

Hockenheimring, 1988

Williams testing an ultra-low downforce rear wing on the FW12. Something they would also try at Monza in 1997.

I love the old Renault livery, and the low downforce Williams in that image looks pretty damn sweet.

Oh that's really tickled me.

Puts me in mind of my OG butchery colleagues, saying how you'd be working with a ciggy on the end of the block. Completely different age.

Is that GIF the reverse angle of the photo above it? Shame I missed him in period, but when I see his driving I'm always amazed.
