CLASSIC RACING Sundays 17:00-19:00 GMT: "Ford Ferrari Wars" LEX CHAMP by 1 Point!Finished

I think I have you as 96 at the moment.

The Renault 8 Gordini was also a circuit race car, which presumably is why it comes as standard with race hard tyres - to be consistent with other race and rally cars I would have expected them to either fit a blank roundel or a race number.

A quick reminder to other racers to let me have your car choices for the "Ford Ferrari Wars"
Yes, you have me as 96 at this moment, but cannot change number in FFW, right?

Mk4 (yay, bought it last week)
Chaparrel
Daytona

Bergele - you are therefore competing in Category 1 - don't forget to paint the Cobra Daytona Coupe metallic Mountain Green (unless it is an Anniversary model).

Harsk - I'll change your number when you start racing again.

I'm looking forward to the one make Ford Ka races. Or have I got that wrong? :D

Put me down for category 2 - you seem to have enough in C1
Daytona coupé
& two others - I'll let you know.
(Possibly the two Corvettes)

The Art Morrison Corvette doesn't have the option of adding a race number (bizarre decision by PD). I suggest trying the Cobra against the Corvette and picking whichever laps fastest and letting me know after that - I know you were exceptionally fast with the Art Morrison in the "Cobra Corvette" Championship, but on standard suspension settings (tuning prohibited) I just couldn't get the Art Morrison to turn round corners - in fact I found it virtually impossible to keep it on the track because the under steer was so bad!

Hello all.
Im a complete newbie to online racing but have been playing GT since number 4.
Reading through this thread, I think you're looking for novices?
I don't have a wheel just the pad and I have a headset but the mic won't work as it's not a USB one!!
I race gt6 with all aids off but I just can't do without abs=1. I'm nowhere near to GT academy but can always get times well within the Gold times within 1-2 goes in seasonal racing.
However, I have no idea how competitive...(probably not ) I'll be.

Please can you guys give me some advice of which online race/ season / etc would be a good place to start?

I know many of you race in multiple leagues/ seasons and I've really liked the look of GTTCC / DTM / and this classic car Sunday more because Sundays are much easier for me than week days.

I would love to be able to try out racing if you guys will have me?

Thanks

Hi Sutsagrd - you will be fine online and yes we will welcome you with open arms!.

We have ABS set to optional - some members race with ABS off and have got used to that setting and prefer it. I also now have the driving line set to optional as this helps people who have not had time to fully learn the track.

You don't need a wheel to be fast - many very fast players use a pad - a wheel will vastly increase your enjoyment of the game because it increases realism / immersion, but it won't necessarily make you faster. Our racers mostly have wheels - probably because they are at the mature (or very mature) end of the age spectrum and therefore have space / can afford a wheel.

I am going to review the number of reserve drivers on the 14th September following that Sundays meeting. We currently have 14 regular drivers and about 6 reserve drivers. I would like to build up the number of regular drivers to the full 16 with a few reserve driver slots used to fill in whenever a regular driver is absent. If you start as a reserve driver on 21st September it is possible to become a regular driver by attending regularly. Regular drivers have an automatic slot on the grid - reserves need to let me know when they want to race and I let them know if there are any vacant slots that week.

If you are achieving golds you should have no problems racing online - the big differences are that the start and opening couple of laps are very intense with passing opportunities available for those who can start fast. Further overtaking (cleanly) is very difficult online and is normally only possible if the person in front makes a slight error - most people find it hard to concentrate and produce a completely error free race so passing opportunities do come for those who are patient and consistent. My advice is to avoid endurance series until you have developed your ability to concentrate on your driving for long periods - sprint races like FergusMiks Classic Minis is a good place to start - and also our Classic races ( which are medium length).

I will be happy to add you to the list of reserve drivers for the 21st September onwards - there are normally some drivers absent and therefore vacant slots to fill and you could find yourself rapidly promoted to Regular status. You will need to get your cars - the fastest Category 1 cars are expensive in credits - if you have any queries on cars to choose let me know - you will also need to send me a Friend Request.

I suggest that before 21st September you try out some of the activities / events run by our affiliated club GTP Classix Club - most of these are open to the public and therefore don't require the exchange of friend requests. On Wednesday we have Classic Minis (1998) model at 435PP, 135bhp, Sports Soft run by FergusMik - utterly brilliant fun and you are at full throttle bumper to bumper for short races. On Thursday we have Pre 73 500PP cars on Sports Soft with SmileyWRX. There are also adhoc races with Blojoggs, Cruise with Dr Driftman and some other great series!

Dear Sick

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I too am at the mature end of the spectrum but have never got on with a wheel mainly because I never had it tethered to anything.

I'll definitely try out the minis and the other racing. That's a great suggestion.

I would love to join in the ford Ferrari wars but although I've read all your posts, do you expect us to have a selection of cars ready. I think I own a few of them already but will need to splash out on one of the cat 1 cars.

I'll definitely need help after that.

I'll try to send you a friend request. You need to be patient with me as this is my first forum chat and I've never actually send a friend request before!!!

Thanks for you words in encouragement.

Look forward to getting on some races in the future.

Hello all.
Im a complete newbie to online racing...
....I would love to be able to try out racing if you guys will have me?
Hi Stutsagrd. welcome to GTplanet. 👍

While you can jump into random online rooms, you're never quite sure the quality of the experience - and can be off-putting. Online racing against a group of friends is really the way to go. I hardly play against the AI these days.

Everything Sick says above is good advice. The only things I can add relate directly to network playing.
Since GT6 hasn't got the most robust online setup!
  • If possible use a direct wired connection to your router. WiFi can be ok for most of the time but can occasionaly cause lagging problems (cars randomly jumping about on the screen while the game works out their location)
  • Before each race it's a good routine to Clear the GT6 network cache in "Options" (from the Start button menu). It is found under the "Network Settings". Select it and press ok. This can sometimes help prevent invisible cars. (The cars will be in the room but you can't see them on track - or hear the driver. You can tell if there's a problem because their name will have a strobing/scrolling effect on the main lobby screen.)
  • It's also a good idea to reboot your router before each session. (Again to help prevent online glitches)
  • If you do experience the invisible cars, mentioned above, it's best if you (and if possible the other affected driver(s)) exit the room and then rejoin. Quite often this is all it takes.
  • There's all sorts of things like port forwarding, UPnP settings and DMZ's in the router that I could go into, but it's best just to see if everything works for you without tinkering any further.
  • And there's probably things I've forgotten to add!!
Like Sick says the Wednesdays short Mini sessions would be a good fun way for you to dip your foot in. And if you wanted to go a little deeper our own @SmileyWRX is just setting up a short(ish) DTM series. I expect he'd welcome you. It's a good time to join when the series is new. It can be a bit daunting joining a group mid series. (Although that's on a Saturday night - might be a problem for you)

Send me a Friend request too - if you want of course.;) PSN - IfAndOr
(I'm sure others might send you one also - you can compare time trial results that way.)

EDIT: I see you've found the Mini thread. :)

Hi IfAndOr

That's really helpful advice.

I've never got my head around UPnP etc but I've strayed onto a few online rooms and it seems to have worked so far. As you suggest I have a wired connection which gives me a very fast connection. I'll definitely carry out all your other suggestions.

I think I need to try out on some simple easier races first like the minis, but I thought the DTM series looked really amazing. I just nought a Merc Clk to try out the nurburgring GP circuit but Gt6 doesn't seem to let you try it out with proper tyre and fuel degradation when practicing.

Weekends and late evenings are usually better but I do regularly work some weekends. I'm still trying to justify this to my better half!

Thanks for your help and advice. I'll def send you a friend request.

Yes, that's usually another problem.;)
It's ok.

Just mentioned I won't be trying to buy a Mazda mx5 to do up for track days and potentially kill myself and our bank balance. Instead I'll do some online racing instead! She's ok with that.

Hi Sutsagrd - IfandOr is the person to go to re routers and tech stuff. I have just accepted your friend request and will respond about the cars via the message system rather than this thread.

Great post lex - excellent videos! I tried to find something of equal quality about the Ford Mark 4, Cobra Daytona Coupe and Chaparral 2D, but no luck so far.

Meet, Greet, Car Check & Test / Photos - High Speed Ring and Tsukuba - Sunday 7th September at 17:00 BST

If any regular drivers are not expecting to attend please let me know asap and I will amend this post. NB - I have also asked this via the PS3 as I am aware that some drivers may not check this thread regularly.
