Thanks to the 50 folks who voted for my pic, the Elise!

And Grrrr to Wallbreaker, who snuck up on my lead and tied me for the win in the last 8 hours! :embarrassed: Great pic :P

Looking forwards to the next round :)

Review time!

Nanabu - I had an idea this was yours... I feel like I've seen this car from you before (though obviously not this shot). While it looks good in preview form, full-size showed a lot of jaggies, and the car feels a bit out of focus. That said, the reflections are the star of the show, and the shot really does focus on them very well!

cheers mate , nope i have choosen this car because i have never ever had it somewhere neither in my gallery or on FlickR, and yes i have to admit in fullsize its jaggy but iam used to flickr 1024x*** size and there it is very sharp, i guess i need to do it better next round of the tournament if i want to win it :D

Thanks for the kinds words SlipZ :)
I had no idea those powerlines could have such a positive impact on my pic but hey :D
Congrats to all those who made it 👍 Can't wait for the first round!

Thanks for the comment SlipZ.
My picture wasn't really deserving to be in a 2.0 tourney really.
I took like an hour before I thought it closed and spent half an hour editing it. Mt. Aso's skies got crawling with artifacts with any major editing, so I decided to keep it pretty 'stock'. Comparing mine to for example Rev's isn't really fair. :P
And I did crop the picture to make it more 'vertical-ish'.
May have needed more. ;)

Thanks everyone for the votes. 👍

I thought the yellow Elise was ceiling fan's entry! I knew mine would be obvious though, the colour tones always give it away.

I voted for your pic so don't take this the wrong way, but for me, the moment I saw the angle, I knew it was your pic. Is there a reason you almost always use 45 degree profile view on your pictures? Just wondering ...

Review time!

JediRage - It's an odd composition, I think. It definitely leads the viewer to look up ahead at the apex, much like the driver, but the cropping doesn't let us see enough of what's going on up ahead. That's my take, anywho...

Hey thanks for the review. Actually I cropped the original because there was another F1 car at the apex, so this car was chasing it. The rules said only one car so ...

It's interesting because I prepared two photos before submitting this one, but one was in photo travel and another also had two cars. Only realized they were against the rules just before submitting.

Anyway, I notice that in 2.0 comps, sometimes the realistic photos get more traction even when there are stylistic pictures up against them and other times, it's the other way around. It's just hard to predict what voters actually prefer ...

I actually thought the Elise was Grand Prix's. Didn't he win a CCCL with one at Mt. Aso?

Congratulations to the top 16 though. 👍

ceiling_fan - Another easy guess ;). Right amounts of colour, solid composition - why'd this get so few votes? Everything is well-detailed and clean, too. Guess we're bound to have a new final winner!

Good question! :dopey: I thought it wasn't bad, to be honest... not my best work but I was amazed with London's lighting on that car color (Crystal Galaxit Black - best black evAr. ;)) I'll just have to start preparing for season 3 now... :dopey: I would like to hear some criticism from those who didn't vote for it, maybe I used too wide of an angle.

SlipZtrEm
SlipZtrEm - Pfft, I'd never vote for this in a million years! :P. I hope my goal of not being able to be identified as mine worked, though.

Nope, I could tell from the big border and the filename (which was pretty much the filename you had for the first tournament qualifier )

Nice review, by the way. Takes a long time, huh?

I actually thought the Elise was Grand Prix's. Didn't he win a CCCL with one at Mt. Aso?

Was actually a Tesla, but same thing

Good luck once again to those that made it!

@ceiling - I knew it was yours because you had a similar shot of a 135i (or tii?) which I requested :P

I would like to hear some criticism from those who didn't vote for it, maybe I used too wide of an angle.

I'm shallow enough to say that it was just London putting me off. And I felt like the colours were pretty dull. The angle was good, as was the sense of movement. I feel that some trees would've suited the picture. A great picture, but not in my taste. But who am I to judge.

Bit gutted I didn't make it, but I knew my entry was going to be on the risky side. Any criticism?

I know its a bit dark, but I couldn't get the glow of the backfire how I wanted it any other way.

Just that sentence "Get behind me Satan" made yours so unique that it deserved (at least for me) to be in the Top 16. Sure, it was pretty dark but that underlined the sentence just a bit more imo.

Wallbreaker - Didn't guess this one either - thought 440 CHARGER had made a very nostalgic return to his old editing style! The composition is pretty good; I would've preferred if the left side of the image hadn't cut off any of the curve, though. The large bit of full-on white in the road also didn't work for me, though it does use the contrast very effectively in leading the viewer's eyes down the path of the car. It didn't get my vote... but it surely didn't need it! Congrats Wallbreaker - I'll be sending you a prize!

I know, it was a bit tricky. On one hand I didn´t intend to edit this one when I actually took it, so there wasn´t enough space for that border to have the street completely on it. On the other hand, that white border fitted so well, I thought I should give it a try. The white on the road was a result of using the warm filter I think; besides that during the editing (especially adjusting the colour tones) it just got worse... Anyway, I´m very satisfied with the outcome of the poll :)

A prize  for what? The tournament has just started

:P Thanks mate :D I think what really made the difference here was the moment when the tournament poll was mentioned at the front page. Since that the votes kept incoming for me. I saw me climbing into the Top 5, the Top 3, and then battling with you for the lead, and for some hours I was even one vote on front of you. If only the photomode guys here had voted, I would have been out of the Top 5.

bmxmitch - Well, due to that poll snaffu... ;). Actually, I could guess who's this was even if it had been included from the get-go. The editing is Mitch's signature, and while it got my vote, I will say that the white burst is a bit distracting - I know exactly what the intentions of it are for, that's no problem, it's just that it has no colour at all associated with it, which I find really strange. Know what I mean? Regardless, it's a great shot anywho!

Thank you very much all who voted for me!

Awesome review, thanks for all the work slipz!👍

And yes, I felt the same about the burst. Thats why I was concirned to reach the next round first. Really surprised I did that well.
I played around with some stuff in PS and actually liked it while doing it. But after I sent it I somehow regret it to enter this one, but hey, it turned out well and I will learn for the future.:sly:

Thanks for the feedback and good luck in the Tournament (maybe we compete each other...even though it would get hard to even get there:scared:)

And I did just delete my shot... :dunce:
It's ended, but I hope it won't bring any problems.

Excuse the inconvenience, I guess I could post the one here.

TheDrummerKing - Composition is on point, and I understand the image is meant to be so dark, so just grabbing the highlights of the LFA makes sense. But what threw me off was the sky was still over-exposed. On one hand, it increases the contrast between it and the tree-line, but I couldn't shake the feeling a better-exposed sky would've had more "wow" factor. Especially because what hints we do have of the sky looks like it would've been fantastic and colourful! I had no clue whose this was :)

I have a bad habit of over exposing the sky. But thank you very much. :)

It's probably like you already said. A bit too dark and the flames didn't really work here. Or maybe we had to many cristian voters!?

Haha I'm happy to go along with that as the reason I didnt make it

rpanico14 - While you earned bonus points from me for the White Stripes reference, I just couldn't find enough in the image! I realize that was the goal, much like the other LFA shot up top, to focus on the car and give very little definition to the rest of the image, but the tiny bits elsewhere in the frame distract instead of add, and the backfire just looks like a ball of glow instead of recognizable flames. The workings of a potentially epic bedroom poster, absolutely, but these little details jarred, for me. Sorry! I say turn it into a poster, hang over your bed, and blast that album :D

I wondered if anyone would make the connection with the White Stripes! Actually I focused so much on trying to recapture the background I didn't think about hiding it; wish I had now! I like the 'glowing' of the backfire as I felt it helped to make the image a bit different to the usual backfire shots. I might have another go at editing it...

Just that sentence "Get behind me Satan" made yours so unique that it deserved (at least for me) to be in the Top 16. Sure, it was pretty dark but that underlined the sentence just a bit more imo.

 I wanted to entered something original, but maybe for the first round a more 'popular' style would have had more chance. Having said that, the execution wasn't as good as it could have been, and there were at least 16 others that nailed it!

Looks like I'll be concentrating on trying to get my first 2.0 and PM wins for now :)

CCShaft7 - The isolation in the image really played off the theme, which I liked. Good blur, no artifacting, and interesting composition also elevate this one for me. The frame choice was interesting without being distracting, and the vignetting further aided the focus. Another I had no clue about the owner!

Wow... many thanks for those comments SlipZ, its a buzz to get concise feedback like that 👍 Also feels good to have been less obvious than I usually am lol.

So happy to make it albeit on the bubble so I must take the opportunity to thank everyone for their votes, Cheers 👍

Thanks for the review SlipZ!
This is very kind, fair and helpful for me (and most of all of us).
You do appreciate the work (yes work!) of the entrants and respect what each of them has delivered.
This competition is fun – but also challenge on a very high level.
IMHO also, the entries who didn't make it to the first round deserve all respect
for their great images which demonstrate the power of GT5 photomode and their skillful users!

Nato_777 - I figured this was your's after the epic Lambo cleanup! I really wanted to vote for it as it looks fantastic for a standard in preview. Something about it in full-size though just felt "flat". Maybe the headlights? Not sure, this one was the hardest decision for me. Nato is quickly proving himself as an expert Standard-cleaner though, very much like our old GT4 friend alexwrc!

Thanks SlipZ, to be honest I'm quite relieved in a way I didn't make it as I have been very strapped for time lately and fell I would struggle to be able to extend myself properly for the rest of the tourney. The headlights were an issue - I did a fair amount of work on them to get them looking right, which they did in the Paint Shop file but that didn't translate when I saved it out as a jpeg and I didn't check it before submitting so my bad. Besides that it wasn't a great picture composition/background wise.
Good luck to those that did make it. :)

ZEROX - You surprise me sir... and now I'm very worried about a potential rematch, since we just tied for votes here! The realism on display here is astounding. It's a simple picture, but done so, so well. Thought this was the work of one of our newer members, so I was wrong again... doh!

Gee, thanks Slipz for the review. :)
I think i can say that i'm improve a bit then. Heheh. :D

I'm hoping for a re-match with you but i guess not in the nearest time. :P
Thanks once more and good luck. 👍
